I'm a newish player playing with another newish player - we've played several games and are gradually adding more rules as we got the hang of the basics.

We're now looking at battle traits, command traits etc.  My opponent has a nighthaunts army and he apparently has 6 really quite powerful battle traits - in addition to all the ridiculous amount of buffing he already gets.  Last night one of my large units got slaughtered after being charged by 3 of his units that all got 10+ charge rolls - which allowed each of them to attack with their ridiculous number of dice before the combat even started, and then one of them got another attack at the start of the combat phase before what was left of my unit got a chance to fight back... which seems a tad over powered, especially given the charge bonuses and hero buffs they were already getting.

But I'm trying to find out what battle traits I get for having an everchosen / slaves to darkness army and I can't find any. at all.  So his army is buffed like crazy plus has 6 mostly powerful battle traits and I get naff all.  Am I missing something?

First off, Wave of Terror (free combat on charge roll of 10) must be unmodified. That means the dice have to say 10 or more, he cannot give any boost for that to go off. But yes Wave of Terror is great if it goes off.

Everchosen/Slaves to Darkness do not really have a battletome right now. The Slaves to Darkness have allegiance abilites in the General's Handbook 2018 that are current. But the new General's Handbook 2019 comes out next month and they may get updated. On top of that a lot of people expect them to get their own battletome soon which may or may not have Everchosen rolled into it.

Still holding hope glavewraiths and harridans at least got reductions.

Been any further news? When can we expect deets on GHB19?

GHB comes out middle of June. Thats our best hope. I too hope Harridans go down. I feel like Glaivewraith Stalkers need a full re-write. As it stands they are just bad versions of GGRs and BGRs.

What do you mean with an double or triple unit?...

A unit is a unit, you can have 10-30 grims in 1 unit and only 1 executioner of Shyish in that whole unit.

But If you have 3 units =

    10 grimghast

    10 grimghast

    10 grimghast

Then each of those units must have their own executioner of Shyish yes.

But keep in mind that you save points if you have a 30 grim units.

By double-triple I meant 20, 30 models. I didn't wanna use Extollers because they look so dumb.

So, out of curiosity, what are people thinking they're going to be running in their Legion of Grief armies?  I know this depends fairly heavily on the answer to the battalion question (which my own feeling will be yes).  I may have picked up a couple of boxes of Bladegheist...

Im tempted to pick up 3 Tomb Banshees , Run a Guardian of Souls, run min unit skeletons, and fill the rest with Dreadscythe Harridans. Im really hoping Harridans become battleline though. I wanna go for max bravery debuff.

Guys. Guys. Stay with me here.

4 Mortis Engines. Reiknors and Banshees in the middle, flanked by Morghasts, with a KoS/Dreadblade in the middle, bubble wrapped by Dire Wolves.

    Welcome to the Mortis Castle.

Do the casting buff stack? Because with 4d3 mortal wounds and +4 to cast this is a scary castle.

It is one of the Alliegances that were included in the old Firestorm campaign book, it is the death alliegance in that book that included Soulblight, Deathmages, Deathrattle and Nighthaunt keywords.

Ok then. I have no idea what the pic is referring to then.

Is it just me or are people jumping to conclusions?

We don't have all the new stuff for LoG on papper and have only had a breef livestream where a guy talked quickly about it.

Well see more when the forgotten power is "fully" released and everything is on paper.

With that said.  From what we've heard is seems that if olynder is a must as a general (just like in the other legions) they really need to make a good battalion or something with her.

I mean its not like he missed anything. He showed the pages LoG covered and read out loud all the things they had.

As it stands, I feel Nighthaunt is stronger, which is very sad. As being a 2.0 army that is woefully underpowered feels bad. Hopefully the GHB helps out. Hopefully we get our terrain soon and it is on par with the others. The Penumbral engine is trash imo. Even if it were free it's bad. Random is bad, wholly within is bad, not blocking your opponents from the benefit is bad, and payign the points for all those combined is bad.

  8. I like a lot of what LoG got, but the restrictions are killing it for me. Can't use olynder or you miss out on -2 bravery. Skeletons are the best battleline for them as they give off the -1 bravery aura as well. While not being bad, thematically is lame as I wanna use all ghosts. Without Olynder we only have 1 spell wizards which makes getting Horrorghast and the -D3 bravery spell off next to impossible since the only buff would be Mortis Engine.  I think I'm just gonna wait for the GHB and hope Nighthaunt gets some buffs/point drops.

Dont get too down guys; we still have GHB2019 to go too

This is what I'm hoping for big time. I want everything sorted. Because there's a lot of good stuff in LoG but focing Olynder as general if you take her cuts off the best thing of -2 bravery command trait. Whereas NH has one usable command trait (Rules of the Spirit Hosts) and could benefit heavily from the -2 bravery one being sideloaded in.

I would like to see Wave of Terror reworked in some way. I have no idea how, but it needs to be something we choose rather than something that happens randomly. Because I've had games where it spiked and I got 7 waves, but Ive also had games with zero. With all the new books getting extra combats for one command point I think ours needs to be more like that.

Not to mention the points need a serious rework. If Warpseer and his like don't go up, Olynder and our heros need to go down.

  10. We get half of everything (3 spells, 3 command traits, 3 arefacts), but it's all better. I was hoping to get -5 bravery, but it's looking like we can completely remove bravery from even 10 bravery stuff like Seraphon or Chaos. This is gonna get good real fast. Super happy with all I heard.

    GMG Review Ongoing Live.
For what I could pick up about LEGION OF GRIEF (guy talks fast) :
    - Keywords : Deadwalkers, Deathlords, Deathmage, Deathrattle, Nighthaunts
    - If one Mortarch is Included, must be Olynder.
    - Allegiance Abilities : Gravesites (same as LoN), Deathless Minions (same as LoN), -1 Bravery for our units at 6' range
    - Command traits :
          - Become a Wizard / Can cast one more spell
          - Get a CP on 5+ when burn a CP
          - -2 Bravey at 12' range of the general
    - Artefacts : hard to pick up, but nothing stellar apparently
    - Spell lore :
          - On 5+, 12' : -1 to save rolls for enemy unit
          - Couldn't pick that one
          - On 8+, 12' : -D3 Bravery

    Soooooo, basically…
    Allegiance ability : -1 Bravery
    Command trait : -2 Bravery
    Death Banner : -1 Bravery
    Horroghast : -2 Bravery
Necromancer with Overwhelming Dread : -1 Bravery
Our spell lore : -D3 Bravery

That means -4 Bravery just with good placement. And up to -(7+D3) with spells…
    Hello Harridans and Banshees. ❤️
If the Harridan battalion get incorporated later in a mixed LoN bookn and can be taken in LoG… Well… Goodbye Inspiring Presence as well and start taking battleshock tests with possible -10 malus.

I would like this more if I could. Thats a lot of bravery debuff.

Lordy those spell lores are all amazing. Only got 3, but they are all perfect. -1 to save is insane. -D3 bravery is insane. D3 mortals to every enemy within 6 on a 4+ is the weakest but can still be very good. This means Your General can be a walking -3 bravery and your caster can add D3.

Excuse me while I go buy some more Tomb Banshees...

Thats if its a FEC terrorgheist. If we get access to it we will have the generic GA Death warscroll

The point I was making is Horrorghast takes the form of what things in the mortal realms fear, and players in AOS will fear the FEC Terrorgheist soon enough. So it's head is a good thing to convert into a Horrorghast.

  13. 14 minutes ago, Neck-Romantic said:

    @SleeperAgent

Where are you getting those perks for the terrorgheist from?

The FEC book. Terrorghiest does 6 mortal wounds on unmodified hits of 6. With the mount trait Gruesome Bite you re-roll all failed hits. And Feeding Frenzy lets them attack again.

I dislike Nagash and support all plans of overthrowing him, courtesy of some Vampires 😛 I just re-read the description of the Horrorghast and it says "... taking on the appearance of whatever will most terrorize their prey - most often the pitiless gaze of Nagash, The Great Necromancer."

'Most often' definitely allows for something more horrendous, as long as it resembles the model a tad; is what I'll do, since I will not field something that even remotely looks like Nagash.

Just convert a Terrorgheist head. I feel like more people will fear them soon enough with 6's being 6 mortal wounds, re-rolling all failed hits, and attacking twice.

Yeah, I could see them maybe dropping to 80 for 5, because they need to be usable in nighthaunt too, no way could I see them dropping lower than that though.

I'm hoping (based on GW statement about bravery debuffs) that there is a -1 bravery in the LoG battletrait and another -1 as part of the battalion in this case.

Not sure though, there are so many ways to ignore battleshock now that if they actually want the bravey debuffs to mean anything, then they will have to be used in more than just the battleshock phase.

I also very much hope they become battleline in some way in LoG. Even if it says Olynder has to be general. I wanna try out a full bedsheet army.

  16. 20 minutes ago, Qrow said:

Given the battalions of the other legions, we could be looking at something like olynder + 2 tomb banshees + something else. As that seems to be the general construction that the others get, what would you want the last unit in the battalion to be?

My guess (and hope) would be dreadscythe harridans, because I really want them to be good somewhere.

I too want Dreadscythe Harridans to be good. Im hoping with the new bravery debuffs they can actually give stuff -1 to hit. I still think their points are kinda whack right now. If the debuffs are plentiful I could see them staying at 90 for 5.

Has there been any news on what the terrain piece in forbidden power does? I know it can be taken by anyone, so I'm guessing it will be pretty generic.

Also, can factions that already have a terrain piece take it in addition to their normal one?

Neither of these have been answered yet. I really hope the "free" terrain stays at 1 per army otherwise this will get ridiculous pretty fast.

The undead Pirate Faction from Total War Warhammer 2 got a lot of positive feedback and I could imagine GW is aware of this. Therefore I guess it is at least something the designers might concider one day, althrough I don´t know how soon.

The quoted piece you pasted really looks like a hint, especially as WarCom Articles really like to do so in exactly this way: Drop a bit of Lore-Rumours for a time before teasing anything.
I would yet be carefull if it is related to a GA Death Faction. Could be also a Stand Alone Kit like the Bugthing for 40k/Blackstone, a completely new faction for one of the other GA´s, an endless Spell, Vol II of Forbidden Power etc.

I really think the key here is "ancient evil trapped on the shores of Lake Lethis" Really lends itself to some more Death goodies. You give me some spooky pirates and Ill buy em sight unseen.
