  1. If tow vampires are like they were in wfb and not the wet weekend they are in AoS I may jump back in, I miss those days of 400ish point vampire lords.
Also does anyone else think bar a few models soulblight are actually one of the easier armies for backwards compatibility?

  2. Just thought I’d add a quick tidbit to this thread. Played Cado last weekend and he absolutely slapped, buffed by Manfred’s aura I needed to do ten mortals to kill a durthu. Guess what? The boy did good.
Love the model, love the rules, just wish he had his battle plan specific command ability on his scroll.

I wonder how the reception from the old guard fanbase affects GW's decisions regarding TOW. The response to this new article seems to be overwhelmingly negative, and the new fanbase aren't exactly the type to invest in a TTG. The way GW is going about it seems to just make nobody happy.

Would you care to elaborate on this? We’ve known for a while it would probably be set in the time of Asavar Kull. Thought it would make the square boys very happy.

Personally would have preferred them not to bother and focus on AoS. My regular opponent is not going back to wfb for love nor money. For me it’s different as vc can easily swap between the two settings but I can’t really bring myself to relearn the rules.

Seems like soon there will not be an AoS section on Forgeworld at all. Do you guys think the plan is to just phase out all the AoS stuff to make room for TOW?

They posted something a while ago about forgeworld’s social media pages being renamed to Horus Heresy. Who knows how they’re going to do TOW.

  5. There’s others on here who get a lot more games in than I do and would be better able to advise you than me. However, the vampire lord is the most survivable out of the three and can boost the attacks characteristic of summonable units which would work well with the army lists you’ve got.  EDIT: Just checked Radukars warscroll and found out he can give +1 attack to any unit! You might be better off sticking with him to be fair!

You’d probably want to go for the Vykros dynasty too as Radukar is Vykros and that all ties in nicely thematically.

I suppose it's part of the evolution of the game. I think that early editions had a mix of everything. Coming from a role playing game, there was a mix of crazy stuff/civilizations, big monsters or even mounts for everyone, regiments of renown that come from campaigns, etc... and evey new edition, the game was polished/flanderized (depensing on your preference) and armies split up, some units removed, and some designs were stablished.

If I'm not wrong, beasts of chaos/warriors of chaos and Tomb Kings/vampire counts were part of this process between 5th and 6th.

And then in end times the undying king Nagash united Tomb kings and vampire counts once more; like a boss!

I'm going to show my age now and ask which side did the Tomb Kings fall under?

Regardless some of my favorite parts of the lore in the past five to seven years was the Malign Portents and Fate of Konor events. Malign Portents truly felt like a legitimate open narrative event, with different rules and storylines opening up depending on which faction was currently winning. It didn't hurt that this event also led to the shift away from the "anything goes" era of AOS to an actual game, and I'd argue we're still seeing the effects from this event spill out into the lore. Fate of Konor suffered the same fate as the Eye of Terror event (one side more or less steamrolling the other), but it was still balanced enough that Chaos arguably got a few "major" wins in.... though that might've been due to the fact that the Dearth Guard range had just been dropped.

I want another event that actually has some stakes! I want GW to give us a new hero for each grand alliance and a goal to fight over for a week or two! Maybe the Stormcasts save one city while Nagash claims a whole continent, maybe a new named Daemon Prince rises to the top, who knows?!?! just make it interesting and make it have a CONSEQUENCE!!!

    Rant done now.

Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Dark Elves all fell under order much like in end times actually. Storm of chaos lore was great as that’s where grimgor battered archaon and left as he couldn’t find a good enough fight.

If skaven are anything to go by GW currently have 0 motivation to do this. It’s a big middle finger to people who have been collecting for decades and just want models that compare with the newer army’s.

Also weird as skaven, beasts of chaos and seraphon(lizaren) are 3 of their more unique looking armies. Would have thought they’d be all over trying to make a big deal out of them.

As an absolute fanboy for resin miniatures I’m curious to know why? Not as a berating question, just purely curious why resin is so disliked?

Finecast or failcast as it is also known, compared to whatever resin forge world use finecast had a reputation for being trash.

They also mentioned “a stockpile of artefacts”. That’s an instant 👍 from me.

Hmm not too sure I’d get my hopes up about that, love to be wrong but I can see it being 2-3 artefacts at most. Let’s not forget how quick they dumped all the artefacts from malign sorcery. Ethereal amulet I’m looking at you! Although there were heaps of them, so if it’s on par with that good times :)

Id love that. There are few Faction in 40K I enjoy but I love the aesthetic of the Votann and am very happy for thsir fans who have waited decades for their return. A second or even third wave for them is welcome.

Hold the phone, we don’t want this turning into a Lumineth situation 💩

Wait so between the Blood Knights and Mortek Guard, are we to assume Flesh Eater courts won’t be getting an update as per the current road map?

Might be easier for them and less backlash to just update the soulblight tome and throw in a new hero than to do that for flesh eaters who could really do with their range spruced up and added to. Nagash gets a new profile again probably which ever comes.

On another note does anyone feel like the majority of vampire hero’s are pretty underwhelming? I feel like having similar combat characteristics to standard foot hero’s in army’s like Gitz is incongruous with basic fantasy lore. I’d happily pay more points for vampire characters that provide some buffs and also have decent combat potential. 5 wounds and minimal/ no healing and underwhelming attack profiles doesn’t feel very vampire-esque. I guess Cado breaks that mould a bit, but doesn’t provide any buffs and also being named restricts his uses.

Got my hopes up before the current tome that we might get vampiric powers back in a proper sense and they would actually be useful. You are entirely right though, vampires of all stripes used to be much more powerful than an empire general for instance. It might happen next time round…

is it really odd? GW doesn't release stuff based on meta or how outdated stuff is, I though people would have understood that by now.

Soulblight was likely going to get a 3.0 tome this edition regardless of how new the last one is.

Fair. I mean I’ll take it, just feel bad for fireslayers players and the like.
