  1. If the sword in particular isn't death I'll eat my hat!

There was also this one which seems pretty Soulblightish to me, although the style is different.

Doubt we will be seeing a new death faction this year although it would be great if we did!

  2. So now that Mr. Hat has been thoroughly hit with the Nerf Stick, due to combination of losing the save bonus in Petrifex and losing access to all the nice realm spells. What are everyones thoughts? Personally I'd argue there no way he is 880 points now, back down to 800 or perhaps less. But hey.

  3. Honest question; would there have been so much uproar if Ossiarch bonereapers were all +1 save army wide when they came out?

Mortek guard 3+ as standard, liege kavalos 2+ as standard. Petrifaction would then have some other ability.

OBR are meant to be Nagashs greatest work and well they certainly don’t seem it anymore. I honestly believe they should have replaced bludgeon rather than unstoppable juggernauts, it fits with their lore!

  4. And Gotrek stayed the same. He is a negative play experience more so then Petrifex were in my opinion.

Petrifex still died, maybe Mortek guard should have been exempt from the +1 save given their ability but I really don't see why everything else had to suffer.

By contrast in every game I've played against Gotrek I've never been able to kill him. I've tried swamping him with horde units to tie him up, which doesn't take him too long to chew through and i've tried the other route of sending VLOZD + Morghasts into him for high rend, high damage attacks (which leads to disappointment as he just shrugs them off) and then spirit host for mortal wounds which he also gets a 3+ ward against! I now just refuse to play against lists with him in as I have found it to be no fun whatsover to play against. People moan about how bad Nagash was is; he's another 340 more points than the dwarf and nowhere near as survivable.

  5. Cue the barrage of OBR stuff on ebay. Personally I was always of the opinion Nagash should have a 2+ save and Morghasts should have a 3+ save, even with the reduction in points I still think they need something else for most people to even consider fielding them.

  6. This may be old news but has anyone realized how disgusting Nagash becomes in Petrifex if you keep a Leige Kavalos with Helm of the ordained near him?

+1 to attacks (leiges ability, +1 to hit (from the helm), -1 rend (from the petrifex ability) and Nagash's own command ability to reroll hit and save rolls of one.

I've just made this list which isn't optimum I know but should be good fun hopefully.

Bretonnia was a historical pastiche without any of the additional compelling bits that made other parts of the old Warhammer world mildly interesting. It was basically monty python and the holy grail: the army, with mud-stacking peasantry, an absurd quest, and a bunch of ponces in heavy armor dashing about. It was additionally pestilential because it had rather rubbish rules for most of the range, so you couldn't reasonably field many of their units. The best thing in the whole range was the trebuchet. :S

Also, I vaguely remember that the army was a pet project of the modeler who made many of the models, and once he stopped making them they really didn't make any more, so the army didn't really have much longevity to begin with.

Wasn't it kept to appease the Perry twins? It's a long time ago now but I vaguely recall it being stated, that it was their love for "proper" Knights that kept Bretonia around.

  8. I usually play Grand Host for my love of Morghasts but with the points reductions to Vhordrai and Blood knights I've been toying with the following list.

Any pointers would be much appreciated as I'm not well versed with them. I've taken the unit of 20 chainrasps just to have a decent sized unit to camp on an objective (and the ethereal bonus).

    Allegiance: Legion of Blood

    Leaders
    Vampire Lord (140)
    - General
    - Mount: Nightmare
    - Command Trait: Aura of Dark Majesty
    - Artefact: Soulbound Garments
    - Lore of the Vampires: Amaranthine Orb
    Prince Vhordrai (460)
    - Lore of the Vampires: Vile Transference
    Vampire Lord (140)
    - Mount: Flying Horror
    - Artefact: Shadeglass Decanter
    - Lore of the Vampires: Amethystine Pinions

    Battleline
    20 x Chainrasp Horde (160)
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)
    5 x Dire Wolves (70)

    Units
    5 x Blood Knights (180)
    5 x Blood Knights (180)
    5 x Blood Knights (180)
    10 x Hexwraiths (260)

    Battalions
Castellans of the Crimson Keep (150)

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 129

  9. Thanks never really looked at it before and just assumed the warscroll on the website would be correct!

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. The one on GW is the same as it was in that old Grand Alliance Death book. The warscroll in the LoN book has the new CA.

@El Syf, that's the old CA for the coven throne. The new one gives re-roll of 1s on hit, wound and save rolls.

Games Workshop need to update the link for the warcsroll then! On the community site the link takes you straight to the old one!

  11. Why is the coven thrones command ability so important? You get the first turn if the dice roll is tied, extremely circumstantial and rarely happens in any games I have had in the last two years.

For the record I am a Vhordrai fan and consider him to be head and shoulders above a regular VLOZD especially now ethereal amulet is not a thing.

  12. There's certain things I miss about fantasy, challenges, combat resoloution and Vampire Lords being good. A lot of the background as well.

I remember when the end times Archaon book came out and the wild speculation of what would come next, bubble worlds (realms) and round bases both turned out to be true. Overall I quite like age of Sigmar and kind of agree it was better to blow the old world up entirely then just do a soft restart after Archaon killed Sigmar or however else they would have finished End TImes.

    Good day to all!

This is the first my post here, the real reason for it - new hero creation mechanism in GHB 2020.

As for me - real problem for Nighthaunts is lack of out hero survivability. 5-7 wounds are too low even with ethereal rule.

Also only one wizard has positive modificators to cast and unbind.

So I decided to create leader which will close this problems - here it comes, The Black ArchCoach.

    1)Malignant leader (12DP)

2)Weapon - great soulreach grasp (great bow) (2DP) - just to have 2d shooting attack

3)Wizard archetype with cast "Rise the Dead" (d3 wounds/models to unit)

4)Gargantian beast - our Great Big Black Coach (15DP)

Option - vicious charge (d3 MW on charge) (1DP)

    5)Enhancements:

    +1 save (2DP)

    +1 cast and unbind (3DP)

    35 DP at all => 350 pts

He will be general for Ruler of the Spirit Hosts WT and artefact Midnight Tome for one more cast and unbind.

In summary - 13 wounds, 3++ 6+++, 2 casts  with +1, 2d3 models to rise, can do some damage in close combat, can be a long range support. With Dolorous Guard is nearly unkillable.

Here is the warscroll - what do you think?

I wasn't going to get the generals handbook this year. That has changed :)

  15. End Times also turned Settra into the ultimate Badass with that one quote/meme. I certainly never remember anyone really caring about him before that.

I must confess I actually liked the end times novels (not the lore books that accompanied the rules books) and from the moment Manfred realizes he and Arkhan have returned Nagash to life rather than just harnessing his powers it was on the cards he was going to try and do something.
