I feel a cool idea for Free People’s was to gather dispossessed, aelves, farkling covens and all those guys, into a single book, and give them an allegiance ability that revolves around customizing what your city of Order has, which would determine what kind of resources or artifacts or special rules or lores of magic you get (maybe better melee, ranged or magic, etc.)

it would allow GW to solve a MASSIVE issue that has plagued them for a LONG time.

Not a free people’s player tho, so I’m not an expert:P it’s just that the mortal Realms are so diverse that a city of only humans might be difficult to manage

I'm a Dispossessed player and we discussed this way too much in the Let's chat Disp.   Dispossessed have a strong flavor and, if you want, a legacy of lore VERY hard to just erase. I'd love a mixed tome but i cannot see them jammed with Humans and Aelfs...

I think both (keeping duardin with their own army and adding them to Free Peoples) would be lovely.  I mean face it - the Free People aren't the Empire. Human, Duardin, and Aelf all live together in these cities and they contribute to Sigmar's armies. Hell, you could have a book with the current Free People, add the Ironweld Arsenal (with additional Duardin units), and say, Swifthawk Agents (since they're often called the scouts of Sigmar's armies). Big tome, covering a city of the realms the way they actually ARE in the realms, not just "Empire legacy army".

Being new to the game, I’m not entirely sure how GW treats these things, but others might so thought I’d ask: I’ve heard people saying it’s possible Sylvaneth will have an updated book released soon (possibly revealed as early as this weekend at Adepticon), or atleast this year, given GW’s plans to release a lot of Tomes this year - does the “soon” part have any real validity do we think? Is it likely/possible??

It's possible, though at this moment we know nothing.  It's a big fat maybe.

  3. There's one note that I see hasn't been addressed yet in this thread, and that's the updated Grand Alliance books which GW has announced.

Call me crazy (hey I just met you) but it seems to me like that would be the perfect time to reorganize legacy armies, update warscrolls, add new Allegiances, and what have you.

Question for everyone who has seen the battle report of Warhammer tv on twitch.

Have you seen how marks of chaos were treated with the beasts of chaos ?

like do you have to have a battailon to even include them, or is it a choice by free will?

Looks like marks are bestowed by the battalion, at least that was my understanding.

I've had skaven forever.  With the clans split up they are really in a poor way right now.  With the rest of Chaos seemingly getting unified with the ability to take marks it leaves skaven even further on the outside looking in.

Skaven need to be one army, not 4 little mini armies with nothing to pull from.  If they gave skaven full access to chaos marks instead of just nurgle they would be in a much better spot.  Give verminus:khorne, skryre:tzeentch, and moulder:slaanesh if you really want them to fit into the rest of the chaos lineup.

Nah, nah. Heresy, all of it. Hate it. They need a mark all right: the Mark of THE GREAT HORNED RAT.

    Goat Mother Slaanesh!

Gavespawn also seems absolutely perfect for a pink herd that is about foul birth and twisted fertility rites.

    Cough cough!

Seriously though, I'm so thrilled by what we've seen so far!

Yeah here's hoping this release isn't just a lazy  cash-grab from GW. Hopefully they actually carefully thought about the rules and playtested them against top armies, and didn't just have an intern who's completely unfamiliar with the army make a minor change here and there.

I'm hoping we get a preview of something that isn't hot garbage this week. Preferably some miracle that will save the Beastlord from sitting on my shelf.

Yeah, I've been prowling the Warhammer Community page like Aqualung at a schoolyard hoping to see something new. I haven't given up my hopes yet, but they're pretty low.  "Phoned-in" isn't a great impression to start off with when building hype.

I'd say very, going that route i'd maybe suggest a Heavens Watch batallion with big horde units of skinks for the three battleline, and a couple different monsters. Monsters get a heal each of your hero phases, and the whole army if the skink hordes were big enough could get the re-rolls on a single unit from the starseer.

Making good use of the one teleport you get for putting down a big skink unit down on an objective early, and by the time the enemy can get to them then your monsters will be there to support hopefully.

Probably going to try something similar once i've fielded everything once for a tournament. Painting anymore than the 30/10 skinks I have isn't high on my list of fun things right now, second to anymore saurus guard haha.

Heaven's Watch! That was the name of it! I'm glad it seems like a possible build.

The more I think about it, the worse the new command ability for  Beastlord looks. It requires me to activate him first, but he is way less damaging than Bestigors, messing up the alpha strike. Since the units being buffed will activate second, they are going to take a bad hit before they get to strike back.

So disappointed in GW for not fixing the Brayherd's only melee hero. :(

It's hurt my enthusiasm, not gonna lie. I'm going to wait to see what Gor herds' "Anarchy and Mayhem" rule is like before I decide anything, though. There's only so much "every army gets a buff from their abilities except yours, you get to gamble for buffs" rules I can handle.

After playing Warhammer Total War, and how cool Minotaurs are there (Their charge animations are just beautifull, look them up on youtube), I absolutely agree. I don't make my minotaurs cheaper... I want them more powerfull.  +1 attack, +1 wound per head, and MW on the charge. Thats all they need. Make them 20 points more expensive to compensate per 3, and thats enough.

    That roll, right? Love it.

The Beastmen army book gave minotaurs impact damage whenever they charged. I'd love for that again.

That could be true, if only the Doombull wasn't a wuss himself. Many many ages ago he used to be a Murder Com (back in the Old Day) but now, he's just a mid-lower HtH specialist, with a solid buff for an awful unit (Bullgors), but he's not even close to be a Hero killer, unless we consider wizards, but it's not like you'll see a lot of wizards even close to the fight (especially since the endless spells)

i'm not a happy goat at the moment at all... it was really hard to make the Bestlord any worse and yet GW did it! He was a rubbish hero before, and he's even worse now. Was it to complicated to just copy Gorthor's comand ability?

Why they always make goats weak? :D

    What makes Bullgors so weak?

Indeed, and they removed the Shield and Great Axe options from his profile so no 3+ save to stick  in combar for longer or -2 rend to get that damage through.

I dislike the new trend of only having weapon options for the current miniature being sold. Warhammer is and has been a hobby about conversions and people have been embracing this for decades. Now anyone that has older Beastlords with great axes or Beastlords converted with shields can't use them in WYSIWYG games.

His profile says "I kill chaff" while his abilities say "use me to kill heroes". I'm sorry but I wouldn't trust him against anything tougher than Wizards and he just doesn't have the mobility to choose favorable combats.

I mean, maybe items and synergies will help, but that doesn't give me comfort. In my opinion magic items and allegience abilities should give you options to round out your character, not necessary crutches to help you perform the function for which you were created.

Kadeton in the other thread was able to use his photoshop skills to read the Beastlord's command ability:

It's an improvement over the previous version because you can activate it in the command phase, but now lasts for only that phase and the effect is worse unless your Beastlord kills a hero or monster (but with his awful attack profile that's pretty wishful thinking). Overall still a garbage hero unless there's some really good command traits or artefacts he can use.

That's underwhelming in the extreme.  The beastlord's way too pillowfisted to get real use out of his ability.

On Stormfiends I think they're worthless. Why would you put your big meaty monsters at range with pretty crappy guns?

On their own in teams, I've ran one for a few games now. Even at 4d6 shots, 4+/4+ isn't great. Makes his points back, if barely.

I get you. I'm just trying to figure out what I want to convert my Island of Blood warpfire throwers to!

Do the beastmen have any Plastic hero other then the shaman? because if they don't that hampers their chances of getting a start collecting box just like why Bonesplitterz never got one. the Shaman could have work but he has his leg pined into a square base like the Savage Big boss so I don't think they would use him for a SC box either.

I don't know, the Wight King has a foot connected to a square base too and he's in the Deathrattle Barrow Lords box.
