  1. Sadly, I'll go with your predictions... So far, most of what GW gave to Skaven were nerfs (clawpacks, warpstone sparks, gnash piling, death runner duplicating...) to already "meh" comboes or allegiances... Besides perhaps crown of conquest, which would also get nerfed following the same logic.

  2. So I lost against nighthaunt again...

My list was 80 clanrats, 2 plague priests, skritch spiteclaw, 3 warpfire stormfiends (1000pts).

The scenario was star strike. I placed the stormfiends within a unit of 40 clanrats for protection. He placed his Bladegheist and knight of shroud outside the battlefield.

First round: he won priority but let me begin. I do nothing. He marches slightly. His Bladegheists pop next to my army, but fail their charge.

    Second round: I win priority.

Gnash-gnash the clanrats, Plague Tome on the Bladegheist, but failed wither. I charge!

    IMG_20190117_151852.jpg.6d91ce677b79b57f2066474285a34531.jpg

73 attacks from the clanrats, and 40 succeed! Unfortunately, he is left with one Bladegheist...

His turn, 3 Bladegheist come back. The rest of the army approaches. Lady Olinder and Knight of Shroud arrive and wipe Skritch plus 22 clanrats (the rest flees). He controls and objevlctive and earns 2 points.

Third turn: one new objective pop on his side, and another on my side. He wins priority and camps on two objectives.

    IMG_20190117_161741.jpg.b0f1f2bef1c7b7eff35aaccdec7cd8f8.jpg

I charge with the clanrats and plague priest and kill two specters... He kills 8 clanrats and the plague priest. He now has 8 victory points, and I have 3.

We then both agreed that I had no chance of winning. Even if I hypothetically managed to steal an objective, I would still be behind in points.

I honestly don't know what to think of this battle. I think I did the best I could. Nearly wiping the Bladegheist with the clanrats pumped me. But then the power of his army (resurrection, strong heroes...) came back at me.

Do you have any advice on how my Skaven could finally take revenge at their Nighthaunt archenemies? I am left with no idea on how to design a list to beat them at 1k...

What about warp-lightning cannons and chaff? 6 stormfiends and chaff? Or else? I don't own any Pestilens unfortunately.

    Cheers

  3. Hello everybody

I'm trying to get revenge on the Nightnaut army that annihilated me in a previous 1k game. At this defeat, I played 9 stormfiends and a warlock engineer. I got wiped because of a lack of screen... And also Nightnaut ignoring rend hurts.

    This time I'm considering:

    List 1

    Quote

    Allegiance: Chaos
    Skaven Warlord (100)
    - Shield & Warpforged Blade
    - Artefact: Crown of Conquest
Plague Priest with Plague Censer (80)
Plague Priest with Plague Censer (80)
    - General
    - Trait: Lord of War
    40 x Clanrats (200)
    - Rusty Spear
    40 x Clanrats (200)
    - Rusty Spear
    3 x Stormfiends (290)

    Total: 950 / 1000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 200
    Wounds: 113

    What do you guys think?

I thought of throwing clanrats at the nightnaut for saturation (and they haven't got any rend anyway).

Stormfiends with warpfire do their stuff from behind. Plague priests improve the clanrats attacks.

I'm open to any suggestion... I also considered a Chaos Sorcerer Lord instead of the two plague priests to have a chance at dispelling. Or an Arch-Warlock...

I also considered list 2 (moulder)

    Allegiance: Moulder
    Packmaster (60)
    - General
    - Shock-Prod
    - Trait: Lord of War
    - Artefact: Crown of Conquest
    Screaming Bell (200)
    - Allies
    40 x Giant Rats (200)
    40 x Giant Rats (200)
    3 x Stormfiends (290)

    Total: 950 / 1000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 200 / 200
    Wounds: 113

Stormfiends either with warpfire or shock gauntlets

Thats great advice! I wish I had two Warplightning Cannons alas I have but 1. I do agree that 2 feel better to me. So Stormfiends? How could I smash a unit of 3 of those bad boys in here? I also hear bad things about the warlord on broodhorror but have never seen it on the table. I would just hate to never use all these big hero models I have.

I have 2 rattling guns, 2 mortars, two grinders, 2 flame throwers so could mix it up.

I agree that the mortars are disappointing, even more so with look out sir. Sometimes I run 8 to achieve some consistent results, but even then cannons seem better...

The 2 warpfire throwers instead look neat.

If you could get your hands on an arch warlock, it could be great fun as well! It would make 6 heroes in your list, what an elite army! You can skitterleap the arch warlock as well, and thanquol would be able to cast its spell too. But then that would also make way too many spells to cast... (6 or 7 per turn) and no endless ones.

Warp grinder could be fun to pop clanrats on the battlefield, but I'm not convinced.

Instead of trying to squeeze stormfiends in as an hammer, you could also put 10 stormvermins (140pts). They get their bonus for outnumbering enemies. So a unit of 10 could massacre heroes and small units, especially with the warlord buff. With Thanquol's buff theyll be fearsome.

    Cheers

  5. I'll try not to get too hyped up...

Remember Skritch Spiteclaw... We fantasized pages and pages long on this thread. They released a warscroll and we were OMG such powercreep! Made dozens of lists that abused his power. And then the unit did not end so great after all... And got even nerfed a few weeks later. I painted mine, it's a great sculpt, but boy that was some over-hype and a day one purchase I regret...

I pray the Great Horned Rat that this is finally a release that (1) brings beautiful yet powerful models, (2) just boosts the power of Skavens in general so we can play them to some competitive level.

If they include the Doomwheel in the starter box, I also hope they change its warscroll...

I suppose the Bombardier will have a warscroll somewhere in between an Arch-Warlock and a Warlock Engineer. One spell, some powerful range nuke, of course that will bear the risk of self-destruction.

Random thought: pick a point within 24" and roll a dice. On a 2+, all units within 3" of that point suffer D3 MW. On a 1, the Warlock Bombardier suffers D6 MW. And then some aura that boosts nearby war machines...

What are your creative predictions? :D I know it's useless because they're going to reveal the warscroll soon anyway... Oh well, I guess I'm also aboard the hype train and am going to pre-order just like I did with Skritch...

Two full Stormvermin units completed! Only 40 to go for a fully painted Verminus army. Arthritis setting in, lol.

Amazing!! I couldn't finish 10 given the amount of details... How did you speed paint them?

Also have you played some games with this magnificent army yet? How did it go and what was your list?

Hey skaven regulars, I wish to pose a question: Why do you really want a skaven update this upcoming year?

Think about all the things you would want in any skaven release, and when it could/should be released, and then consider what GW has done the last few years.

I'll hold my answer for now. Have fun.

    Hi

I just want the "Beastmen" treatment: clans getting unified in a book with subfactions, pumped allegiances, endless spells, terrain, battallions.

Bonuses would be new sculpts for some old models (most of Eshin, some Skryre), named characters, improved grey seer and stormvermins

I think it's more a debate on RAI vs RAW. At least for me anyway. I actually tried it again with 20 Acolytes yesterday and it really isn't all that dirty considering what other factions/models can do (only killed about 5 Witch Aelves before they got charged by a Cauldron and wiped clean). I think I just felt bad for doing it that one time as it was against a newer player and he didn't like having Acolytes kill 2 1/2 Stormfiends with one volley...but such is the game.

Either way, it's currently written that the accompanying unit is setup within 9" and not more than, so do what you will with that until it gets changed, if ever.

The French translation is extremely weird and adds to the confusion.

Rather than writing "within 9" or "more than 9" they actually wrote a mixture of both that is grammatically incorrect.... They wrote "within more than 9"" :D: "à au plus de 9" (within would be "à au plus 9" and more than would be "à plus de 9")

I have about 30 Acolytes that I occasionally use (or use units of 5 as fillers for some Skryre lists) and I either deepstrike them with a Grinder-team or park them behind Clanrats so they can shoot whatever the Clanrats are in combat with and they do work very well in that capacity.

My store owner disagrees with this and wouldn't allow it. It says that acolytes deploy "at 9"" but they need to be "within 9"" to shoot (so at 8.999999999 inches).

Debatable... But I can't use it myself then :D

Hey guys.  Any ideas / share photos of how to make different units of Stormfiends unique?  I love the kit. It's like the whole reason I am playing Skyre (though I do love my Ikit claw after we bonded over hours of painful assembly), but all the customization is in the weapons!   Very few "optional accessories" and I don't have many Skyre bits laying around.  I will probably do some minor conversion work so that if I use 3 of the same weapon, it's on 3 different sculpts, but I still don't want 3 units that each have the same 3 guys.

Would love to hear ideas, see pictures, recommendations on kits that have great bits to tack on (most of my army is second hand, so no bits. I have stormfiends, thanquol, and a verminlord, unassembled. I don't imagine there will be many bits left over from those kits to use)

    Hi, same reasoning here.

Here are my 9 kit-bashed ones. (In progress) I just mixed and matched the sculpts and weapons. Sorry about the pictures quality.

Also enclosed my 2 warp-grinder teams using bits from here and there

All is in-progress (bases will be dark brown mud with black corn/wheat growing on it)

Feedback is welcomed as they are not finished yet!

Hello, i have spire of dawn models, 20 plague priest with foetid blades, a Plague priest, a Warp lightning cannon and Screaming bell

Plus i have to build a Verminlord kit and 2 kit of stormfiends.

    1) which verminloard  you think is the bear ia a very hard choiche for me they are all awesome.

    2) i want to play 1 unit of stom fiends with 2 warp fire projector and ratling guns, and onther whit grind fist and 2 Shock Gauntlets.

    3) I want to expand my army whit storm vermins... any other suggest is accepted.

    1) I like warpseer (plus you have some giant rats from the start collecting pestilens box) but any is good...

    2) it looks fine to me... You could also swap the ratling with the cannon to have one more mobile unit

    3) you don't have enough clanrat with one spire of dawn box I think. If you bring stormvermins in you could add some support characters such as grey seer/arch warlock/chaos sorcerer Lord. Or just get a second SC pestilens for a second cannon, a second bell, a second plague priest and a full unit of 40 plague monks

I see your point, but for some reason I don’t really like the backstabbing Little sorcerers known as grey seers, to much.

(must be that Headtaker-syndrome, I got from reading his book).

By dropping 10 stormvermins and 1 packmaster you could fit an Arch-Warlock in if needed... It is tremendous value on its own, but compared to 10 stormvermins + 1 packmaster it needs to be carefully considered...

  13. Hi, I just want to share that I've got wiped by Nighthaunt at 1k, mostly due to poor strategy and placement...
I played 9 stormfiends and 1 warlock at 1k. Buffed Bladegheist with a 10+ charge wiped 6 of my stormfiends on a charge. I only had the 3 shock gauntlets left but they couldn't do much...

I think that next time I'll bring back the swarm against them with 80+ clanrats! (Or at least a 40 screen for my stormfiends)

Cheers, and all praise for the battletome!

    Hello all that skitter,

I am looking to start a skaven force. I posted in the verminus clan as well. Sunce skryre and verminus are the two I plan on focusing on.

So what is a good starting point for us? I want to try and focus my purchases.

Hi and welcome :)A good start would be:

    - 1-2 start collecting pestilens and some 40k backpack bitz off eBay: this should give you 20-40 acolytes, 1-2 cannons, 10-20 giant rats, 1-2 plague priests and 1-2 bells

    - island of blood sets, if you can still find some... Each is worth 40 clanrats, warlock engineer, warlock, warpfire thrower, poisoned wind mortars and else

    - 1 arch warlock

    - 1-3 sets of stormfiends

With this you can build about anything skryre or verminus related...

Spray your clanrats with the leather brown spray from armypainter.

afterwords base paint all the clothing and weapons/Armour, (edit:) teeth’s with a color scheme you want. And paint the tail (edit): ears Chadian fleshtone.

thirdly wash your whole model with Agra’s earth shade.

and lastly paint the eyes red.

And with this guide you will have finished your clanrats model in around 7-10minutes.

edit: If you want to go even further, you can also drybrusch your miniature.

    Same here.

    Fur brown army painter undercoat

Base the clothes, armor and a few details

    Wash agrax

Dry brush cadian fleshtone on the flesh, and some colors on the clothes/armors.

I do each step on 10 to 20 clanrats at a time.

Good luck and may the Horned Rat be with you...

Yep, and I don't blame anyone for playing it this way since it does specify attacks, I just don't think it's intended that way since, yes, it makes them even stronger.

But of course, I'm also the same person who tried the Grinder-team + Acolytes to come up within 9" which is also probably not RAI. Take what you can get as a Skaven player.

I don't think the grinder+acolytes is problematic in terms of RAW/RAI. It's just a combo. You could also take 9 stormfiends with gatlings along, or 100 jezzails, or 40 night/gutter runners.

Once the acolytes dropped their attacks, they're just standing there naked, ready to get wiped or battleshocked.

I don't feel any rules are being abused there.

The shock gauntlets one I find trickier...

  17. Very Skaven-like then... Kill the hero to break the cunning plan :D
So here is the list I'm going to play for the future melees at my shop:

    - Arch-warlock

    - 2* packmasters

    - 3*3 stormfiends

    - 2* warp-lightning cannons

If sometimes I want to have some fun with spells and more melee:

    - Arch-warlock

    - Packmaster

    - Screaming bell

    - 3*5 acolytes to throw it into the pit

    - 3*3 stormfiends

    - Aethervoid pendulum (converted using the plague censer remaining from the furnace)

As for the stormfiends equipment, I already had: 3 warpfire and 3 shock gauntlets

I also had 3 grinders but following the advice in this thread, I replaced 2 with rattling so the unit is now 1 grinder and 2 rattlings.

Or would 1 grinder and 2 shock gauntlets be more appropriate? It might work with some conversions. My stormfiends are converted anyway so that each is unique

    Cheers

  18. Thanks  for all the advice. 3 more stormfiends to paint and I'll be good to go!
Quick question regarding the enginecovens please:

    - does the warlock engineer need to be alive for the order to be executed (d6 mW of gascloud, fire twice the cannon in arkhspark...)

    - does the arch warlock need to be alive to pass its "maniacal instinct" onto an engineer ? And does the engineer needs to be alive to pass the instinct further onto a unit?

    Thanks
