  1. Managed to score an absolute gem of an army from a social media friend.

    1 Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

    3 Dragon Ogres

    20 Gors

    20 Ungors

    10 Bestigors

    2 Shaman

    2 Beast Lords

Im already in possession of 30 Tzaangors so looks like I'm off to a decent start. Just need to wait for the battletome so I can start to work out what's what. Really looking forward to release now.

  2. No slight intended upon anyone with my previous comment. Hopefully that goes without saying. Just an observation based on the lack of chatter of Nurgle in all the main channels.

I have been listening to The Honest Wargamer and the growing theory that AoS2 is moving to a chaff heavy meta where armies need to strongly feature chaff lines to counter alpha strike and the like. Similarly, there's a lot of talk that flying units are key to avoid chaff lines and go towards just targets.

Fortunately for us we have one of the best chaff lines in the game in plaguebearers. They are also battleline too which is an added bonus.

As for flying units we have Plague drones. I admit to not being very experienced with them, but everyone seems to agree they are excellent. Obviously they need a daemon knocking around to make the most of their attacks. I have taken to list building with a Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount who can keep pace with them and trigger the locus. But, he can't fly, so roadblocks may appear. I then had the idea of running a GUO with the Thermalrider Cloak.

Not only is this a hilarious visual concept, but this allows him to trigger their locus AND with his command ability you get an extra round of attacks with them.

What do we reckon to this? I understand the cloak comes at the opportunity cost of other items but there may be ways round that with some battallion trickery.

  3. So, let's say taking all this into account I wanted a solid foundation to build upon at 2k with a heavy sacrosanct vibe.

Would a battleline of 20 sequitors and 2x5 judicators be a solid start?

I want a spicy surprise gunline but I think rather than crippling my army build with castigators I'll just add in 2 or more ballista and old mutton chops. Still plenty of dakka and a huge beard to go with it.

I mean it definitely only has one trick - Scions in your Castigators and hopefully annihilate enough priority targets that you can win the game with 1k points of sub-optimal shooters. I think for the list to really work well, you need to go with 2 blocks of 15 or max them at 18 - you really need to get everything you can out of the double-shots. I think it can work well against an elite list, but will likely be poor against hordes (-2 rend is great, but not enough raw damage to dent hordes). Large targets like Nagash, Alarielle, or Maw-Krushas would be a nice matchup.

Would it be fair to say that I could achieve a similar aim by taking Vanguard Raptors? Sure, no rend, but a unit of three pumps out 27 shots a turn right? Quantity has a quality all of itself holding true, isn't that better surely by weight of firepower?

  5. Something like this, perhaps? Utter Stormcast noob here but my thinking was to sacrifice some of the dakka and install some magical support.

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals
    - Stormhost: Hammers of Sigmar
    Knight-Incantor (140)
    Lord-Aquilor (200)
    - General
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120)
    - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120)
    - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120)
    - Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    12 x Castigators (320)
    12 x Castigators (320)
    20 x Sequitors (400)
    - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields
    Celestar Ballista (100)
    Soulstrike Brotherhood (120)
    Dais Arcanum (40)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 137

Here's a variant with a sequitur screen.  You could swap the 20 sequitors for 10 evocators of that's your fancy.  The list's offense would be off the charts if you did, but it wouldn't be as good at protecting the castigators or controlling the board.Screenshot_20180722-165623.png.7c6a0e21fd8701d496dfb44f53409984.png

Is this list, and/or the Soul Strike approach actually a legit tactic or more a one trick pony? Genuine question, I have been thinking about going down this route to shake up my local meta but don't want to deep dive on castigators if it's too much of a glass hammer,
