So fielding a change host army list, looking at the rules in the handbook and then the rules in my army book.
I want to suggest, an "thematic" ruling for the "split" rule.
As follows;
Blue and Brimstone horrors are purchased as an UPGRADE to your pink horror unit.
Meaning upfront, you pay the cost for the unit and "Assign" it to the parent unit. So I pay my 230 points upfront. I then get guaranteed splits off on that unit of pink horrors. Not paying 50 points for say, 2-4 blue horrors that then get sniped off the board in the charge phase by a player with flying. Have the units generated by "split" have to link up with other models purchased towards the same unit.
So your pink's would always butterfly out to 50 models no matter what. You'd pay the appropriate amount of points for the correct amount of models. Rather than getting partial units that are then suspect to being sniped off.
