Rules query...

*All heroes have access to 3 common command abilities: turn a  run roll into a roll of 6, reroll charge rolls and immune to battleshock for one turn (not battle round). Found on page 3. of the cure rules under “Command Abilities”. These are not used in the hero phase but in the relevant phase (movement, combat or battleshock phase). Can only be used on units close to the hero (generals range is longer than normal heroes).*

Question...

Can command abilities be cast on the General/hero or just units close to the hero?  The wording seems to suggest only units close to the hero can make use of the command ability.

Is there a passage in the book explaining this? As it is causing a lot of arguments within my local gaming community as some say it can be used by the hero/general while others state then can only be used by  a hero/general onto a unit close to the hero/general

A unit is always counted as being within " of itself, so if an ability reads: "Friendly models within 8" do not have to take battleshock tests" that includes the unit that has the rule.

In your example the hero can use those command abilities on him/herself.

It's in the core rules, page 239 (page 12 in the app)
