Quick allegiance abilities clarification

Screwface

Question

Just want to make sure I have this right: if I want to take a Warherd army in matched play, in order to field the requisite number of battleline units I have to give the army the Warherd allegiance, and as Warherd have no allegiance abilities of their own the army will therefore have no allegiance abilities.

Your army can be Warherds allegiance to take Bullgors as battleline and then take the Grand Alliance Chaos allegiance abilities. See the last paragraph under 'Army Roster' on page 77 of the new General's Handbook 2017, if you have it: "You can choose to take either the allegiance abilities for the allegiance your army belongs to, or the allegiance abilities for the Grand Alliance your army belongs to. For example, an army with the Stormcast Eternals allegiance could either use the Stormcast Eternals allegiance abilities or the Order allegiance abilities."
