Why didn't he stop her then? A little pressure applied at the right time when the Idoneth attacked would have done the trick. I think the vampire angle makes more sense, especially with ven Brecht's background story.

Malerion seems still really far away, maybe they don't even have a model for him yet. Otherwise his total absence in the plot would not make much sense to me. Or GW will depict him much weaker in the end than we thought he is. If he wouldn't even know what's going on in Ulgu.

Who knows what Malerion  is up to when Morathi is doing her thing. He plays the long-game, this may be all part of his master plan, I don’t know. They have said that broken realms is focused on the aelves. I could see little Malerion teasers in the books leading up to a 3rd edition release.

It could be a vampire, but I think Malerion makes more sense from a plot standpoint.

  2. I think the creature that saved Van Brecht is Malerion. The creature is described as having a claw, has wings, is wreathed in shadow, and has crimson eyes. The creature makes sure no witnesses are left behind, a modus operandi of Malerion. The sky is pitch black when he gets outside. Malerion is probably not too happy about Morathi’s letting Slaanesh loose and her newfound godhood. I could see him freeing Van Brecht so that he can go tell Sigmar of Morathi’s treachery.

well the Generals Handbook states on page 76:
"Allied units can have different allegiance to the rest of the army."

So we should be totally fine with some Shadowblade allies here. :-)

We can also easily change this into a 2000 point army:

Anvilguard - 3 drop army - Allegiance: Order

    Leaders
    Dreadlord On Black Dragon (320)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Master of Defense
    - Lance of Spite & Tyrant Shield
    - Artefact : Quicksilver Potion

    Dreadlord On Black Dragon (320)
    - Lance of Spite & Tyrant Shield
    - Artefact : Relic Blade

    Units
    10 x Drakespawn Knights (320)
    5 x Drakespawn Knights (160)
    1 x Drakespawn Chariots (100)
    10 x Dark Riders (240)
    - Allies
    5 x Drakespawn Knights (160)

    Behemoths
    War Hydra (200)

    Battalions
    Ebondrake Warhost (160)

    Reinforcement Points (0)
    Total: 1980 / 2000
    Allies: 240 / 400

    Leaders: 2/6 Battlelines: 4 (3+) Behemoths: 3/4 Artillery: 0/4

I get what you are saying, but this pic from the tempest eye reprint suggests otherwise, since it says units and/or battallions with the listed keywords; so looking at that, an eldritch council army couldn't include any Phoenix gaurd in a Tempest Eye army, even though they are allies

I tried to make a pure Cav. Armylist out with the Anvilguard Allegiance. What do you think about it? Fast enough to get behind the enemy?

    Allegiance: Order Serpentis

    Leaders
    Dreadlord On Black Dragon (320)
    - General
    - Lance of Spite & Tyrant Shield
    - Trait: Master of Defense
    - Artefact: Quicksilver Potion

    Battleline
    10 x Drakespawn Knights (320)
    - Order Serpentis Battleline
    5 x Drakespawn Knights (160)
    - Order Serpentis Battleline
    1 x Drakespawn Chariots (100)
    - Order Serpentis Battleline

    Units
    10 x Dark Riders (240)
    - Allies

    Behemoths
    War Hydra (200)

    Battalions
    Ebondrake Warhost (160)

    Reinforcement Points (0)

    Total: 1500 / 1500
    Allies: 240 / 400

.) The Hydra should be used as an Anvil
.) Dark Riders are super fast and can grab objectives of rush behind enemy units
.) The battalion makes this an 2 drop army and impoves the chances for the much needed double turn. It is expensive however, but the reroll 1s to wound is good

Cool list! However, are you sure you can include the dark riders in the Anvilgard list? I know they can be order serpentis allies, but shadowblades aren't one of the listed factions that can use Anvilgard abilities.

Also, that extra charge you can get in the hero phase from the ebondrake warhost could be useful for an extra movement to try and wrap around enemies before you use the Anvilgard ability

  5. For those interested the pre-orders for path to glory and new start collecting sets are up on the NZ GW site.

The factions with war bands in the path to glory book are:

Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Beasts of Chaos, Skaven, Clans Pestilens, Kharadron Overlords, Stormcast Eternals, Fyreslayers, Sylvaneth, Seraphon, Order (chosen from Human, Aelf and Duardin models), Ironjawz, Beastclaw Raiders, Bonesplitterz, Destruction (chosen from Orruk, Grot and Ogor models), Flesh-Eater Courts and Death
