Well, I have Archaon and enough STD to comfortably round out 2k sat in my display unit eagerly awaiting some lovely new rules and stats. Will probably have to grab a SC box too because the new models are sweet. I actually rather like the old warriors and knights, but I understand I am in the minority.
I do love the old warriors and knights, like you do 😉 I don't have archaon (yet!) nor the varanguards (yet!). And I'm waiting to grab asap one new SC! to mount and modernize all my StD army which is waiting to be ASSEMBLED for ages (started last year with battleforce). To be build are (in addition to the new SC!): 44 warriors, 25 knights,2 mounted manticores, one shrine, 3 charriots and 1 or 2 slaughterbrute/mutalith , a wizzard. (can add also several chaos pieces like 2 daemon princes, some big dadies like LoC, ...). So, you can say I am impatient. And this is, I think, a bit over 2K army...lol

What the role of maneaters? are they good? I don't understand why they are still here 😉
Insight please.

Well, obviously. But I'm curious to know how they fare in Slaves to Darkness as of now. Maybe I can get some games in before the book drops in a month and a half.
The situation is exceptional as the StD really start from scratch in AoS. Until now, they have NO BT, so they are really bad because of the lack of everything: synergies, units, army as a whole, etc... Imagine how where CoS a few month ago. Now they are (almost) top tier. I'm smelling something good for our StD but for now, it just stink.

Conclusion: Get used to shooting/anti-shooting meta.
The meta is already like this.
31 minutes ago, Beastmaster said:Wild speculation2: Many of them will be (so far quite lacking) warmachines and shooters
Which make them unique in a way. GW/we don't want all armies to be the same. BTW, magic make "kinda" war machine with wizzards.
33 minutes ago, Beastmaster said:So far, strong missile troops have been quite rare in AoS. With OBR, they start to be part of the game.
Strong missiles have been there and they were OP in this game (skyfire, sylvaneth bows, SCE balista....) and they have been nerfed to the ground. Not good for the game. Now that we have OBR crawlers, powder armies (CoS) and magic (which is more and more shooty), I think that we'll see back some ranged units.
There are only 2 battletome missing now in the AoS 2.0 range: KO and tzeench (DoT). (and maybe some ES for LoN and nurgle) I think that they'll be done in 2020 Q1. And then, everything will be 2.0. So, what next? new armies? new entries for some/many armies? Difficult for GW to maintain the hype 😋

Can anyone tell me how the Warcry warbands are in AoS? I've heard so pretty variable accounts of their usefulness but I definitely want to get and field them.
You'd better wait the SdD battletome to have a reliable answer to this question: how will they mix in this "new" army?

my 60 Warriors and 30 Knights are obsolete now lol!
çSame boat here. But GW wrote that you can mix the new with the old. I think it is doable. Wait n see....

A joke. It seems that everyone will start an Slavs to Darkness army that all tables are going to be flooded with the chaos boys.
Joke aside, it is not a problem when there are so many entries in a BT. Look at the CoS...

RIP armies diversity
What are you saying? StD will probably be the richest army in AoS with so many entries, so many synergies with 4 chaos gods+1 neutral , etc...
-
I have to go back to the attic and count how many warriors and knights I already have to decide if I go 1 or 2 SC! .I don't know what I'd do with 30+ warriors and 30+ knights...
-
GW hit hard. I didn't want to start new army. And then, comes the feat of bones: Bam! started 2 new armies. And now...a SC! to mix to my old chaos army which now has to be finished (more plastic! need archaon and varanguards). Even if you have to "finish/refresh" your existing army, it is another 80€ of SC! + 32€ of BT + 30€ of ES + probably a scenery/terrain? => 140€ or more. Just to refresh an army. lol.
But don't read me wrong: I'm soooooooo happy it just happen.😍

Varanguards and new knights are really close now. What can justify that the varanguard (for only 3! ) price is the same or above the whole Start Collecting box with new knights (for 5!), new mounted and new warriors??
-
Reading this from community: "Each of these new models will fit in perfectly to your Chaos collection, whether you’re just starting out or bolstering a mighty legion. "
So, by buying only ONE SC! box, I'll modernize my entire StD army! (30 warriors 20 knights 3 charriots 2 manticores 1 shrine), won't I?
PS: it is nice BTW that everything is packed into a SC! box at a really nice price.

Now the big question: how will those new warriors/knights will mix with old ones???
Side question: how will GW justify the stratospheric price of varanguards now? (or I'll just get the new knights as varanguards in my chaos army full of old knights)

Double edged sword, I'm sure those will be awesome but just got my set of Warriors and Chaos Lord on Manticore =/ hahaha
I'm in the same boat...and I like my warriors. I expected something else, but I admit that those warriors show their age.

well, we'll know in about 21mn...

2 or 3 catapults far away can me a pretty heavy hitters too.

Immortis+kavalos runing everywhere: can kill anything while kavalos don't die due to bodyguards... I have to see if it worth 400 pts through...

I'm happy: my boxes have been sent . it seems that I ordered soon enough feast of bones because the 2 places where I ordered sent me the boxes . I did this to be sure to have some boxes. Now, I'm waiting...to be able to resell (in France preferably) quickly 4 heros that I wont need in those boxes. lol
I'm impatient to assemble all those ogors and ossiarch. I'm like a kid before christmass (but trust me, I'm not any more for decades ....at least on the outside because the inside....lol)

Nothing to fix there. You know, in a battle, the charge is the shortest time of the rider: in the middle of the fight, exceptional riders (like varanguards?) do one with their horse (or whatever it is) fighting both around them, the horse hitting hard, not with the front but with the back legs. And I like the position of the left one reflecting exactly this fighting spirit. Same for the more classical posture of the right one. The middle one is more likely charging. (PS: I was myself a rider learning sword and spear fighting on a real horse).
