  1. Wow! this is 5 boxes and a bunch of points for sure (1300 in the state of StD). So, you are just 1960pts with big daddy. If the varanguards go up by 10pts, you're f*cked. lol

I'm also in love with varanguards. I just picked up my first unit waiting for the rules and synergies to eventually get a second pack. One of my ideas/hope is to make a alll-mounted/cavalry army.

    - varanguards (1 or 2 units)

    - knights (probably MSU)

    - chariots

With some HQ: manticores, the new chaos mounted guy, even the (superb) warshrine.

I'm sad that we won't have the mammoth, but I really hope we got the chaos giant, the slaughterbrute and eventually the mutalith (but I think that this one will be in the upcoming disciple of tzeentch)

    🤔

let‘s summarize what we get (// have) for StD:

    - Chaos Warriors

    - 6 Warcry Warbands

    - Fomoroid Crusher

    - Sphiranx

    - the Myrmidon

    - Mutalith Changebeast

    - Slaughterbrute

    - The Harpies and Chickens from the Warcry Box (?)

    - Chaos Chariots

    - Chaos Shrine

    - Marauder Horsemen (?)

    - Marauders (?)

    - Darkoath Warqueen & Chieftain

    - Old Chaos Warriors

    - Chaos Knights

    - Sorcerer on Obese, Deformed flying walrus-Cat-Lion (Manticore)

    - Chaos Lord on foot.

    - Chosen (?)

    - Varanguard

    -Archaon

    - Endless Spells

Imo generic new Marauders would have been amazing as well as a new less generic kit (siege engine/huge monster, Beastmastets etc.)

what do you think? Did I forget a unit?

You forgot the famous , the biggest, the majestuous Chaos War Mammoth !

With the current rules I could see an argument for the Unmade and Splintered fang in addition to the Golems. Unmade do a decent job of retaining their damage to the last few wounds whilst having a bonkers special rule, not being able to retreat can absolutely win games. The splintered fang are pretty awesome recipients of any +1 attack buffs whilst having some innate healing. Even the untamed beasts have some utility in their pre game move whilst the Cypher lords bring a pretty sweet -1 to hit, shame it isn't on a ranged attack though.

Corvus cabal are definitely at the bottom of the pack for me though, their wet noodle ranged attack doesn't make up for their not quite fly ability.

As pointy guys, the unmade are also the ones that fit superbly, I think. They are also my fav if I had to add one warcry unit. BTW, contrary to SC! and ES (day one purchase) , I'll wait more info to decide IF I take a warcry unit. I have so many things already...

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else, but according to our local importer the Warcry double-band boxes are a limited release. I'm not even sure what it means exactly, and I have no further information.

    That'd be super surprising...

  5. As expected. Day 1 for the SC! and ES for me. I'll wait a bit for some warband to see which one I like the most and which one fits the best in my strategies.(In clear, wait for more reveal of the battletome and warscroll/points of the bands.)

Only 2 words: AT LAST !

It's useless to have a tome without a tons of warscrolls of models coming out 1 month later

It was. But now, with the keyword game, you can anticipate a faction by just bringing some unit with the keyword in the battletome (with of course, some bataillons, traits, artifacts , relics special rules, etc...) and then add some new  units later. In fact, if GW, (yes, big IF there) were smart, he should have done it for all factions, allowing each faction some extent without changing the battletome!

I don't know. The +1 attack is for friendly Nurgle units, so the only thing we are really talking about is Plague Monks in a Skaventide or Pestilens allegiance.

S2D units can get all those buffs anyway if they are taken in a Nurgle army (and trust me, it still doesn't make them any good).

What do Monks get in Skaventide that they can't get in Nurgle? The only thing that springs to mind is Death Frenzy, so they'd get extra attacks in on that.

I think the real reason is a lack of competence in GW when pointing things, especially once an initial points value has been "calculated" (ie dart thrown at board full of numbers). With GHB they seemingly just make small adjustmenst based on internal logic instead of recalculating a unit's worth from the ground up again.

How much would Glott be worth if he was introduced to the game only now? 2 casts, only 1 unbind, no bonusses to either, decent CA (but Harbinger of Decay always wins the CA war if you only have 1  command point), average in combat, no DPR, 4+ save, 18 wounds, no artifact or trait possible. That's a 280 - 320 point model there.

You forgot the most important thing here: the miniature is A-MA-ZING ! That was the main reason I spoke about him 😉

I do wonder if the reason Glottkin costs as much as they do is to prevent them being allied in to other allegiances where his command ability could cause balance mischief. I don't see them going to 400 or less points due to that.

That is exactly my conclusion also. Nothing make him worth the 20 artificially added points. He would have been top in nurgle skaven army, nurgle StD army. It is a shame that this wonderfull mini, which fits superbly with StD couldn't even be an ally at 2k points.

  9. I love the glottkin mini. I didn't buy it yet because I don't have nurgle army. But what? I just noticed that what I planned wouldn't work? I wanted to do a nurgle StD army with the glottkin and I see that if I want battle forged, I can't do it? The glottkin is 420pts, so, he can't be ally. But all StD can get the NURGLE keyword, can't they?

Could you help me fit a glottkin in a StD army? What do I do wrong?

  10. Your problem will be the mobility: you friend got it with some (super) heavy hitters. I'd suggest:

    - maybe a ES to slow down some of the enemies

    - one fast unit (riders) to counter a flank and go with the liege.

    - maybe only one unit of the guards need to be 20 (with arkhan giving life back...). Not sure. To be tested. If you can replace the 130pts by another hero (for more DP and magic, boneshaper would be my take)

Feast of Bones is poor value if not interested in Ogors, mostly because there will be veeery few reasons to ever bring more than 2 units of morghasts (barely even 1).

I (super) love the morghast which indeed are not the best on the table. But you are right: after reselling what I didn't want to keep, and finally gotten rid of all ossiarch, I just have a 1500pts army for...60€ ! And that, completely NEW on sprues. (1 tyrant, 18 ogors, 6 leebelchers, 3 ironblasters). Add to this one of the best deal with the SC!, 140€ later I'm with 4 Stonhorn+8mournfangs added to the ogors making a almost 4000pts army 100% new for 200€. Unbeatable.

I hope that I'll got a battleforce next year for OBR. This year, the battleforces a pretty bad (they were great last year).

Surely most of the warscrolls get a boost, if not weapons than at least command abilities/abilities. Some rend would be nice on the manticore.

Also, any news on Chaos Chosen? Phased out, new models or keeping the resin ones?

I don't expect a lot of changes (read= almost zero) on the warscrolls. A bit rend here and there, maybe wounds and rules (abilities/commands). But I think that we'll get the most out of the batallions ond synergies (traits/relics etc...).  Maybe some balance on the manticore.

The choosen are the elite of our (already) elite army. They can't get rid of them. So, for now, I don't see some change. They are already hard hitters. But maybe some rules to make them move faster via spells or something. The minis show their age especially if they go side by side with the new (SC!)  chaos warriors.

Units: If you are on a budget and looking for an all comers list to start with, I would focus on Mortek Guard and some Kavalos. Something like a Liege Kavalos, Mortisan Soulmason, a box of Mortek guard and a box of Kavalos as the core is a good purchase, add a box of stalkers or a harvester for a nice little 1k force to play vanguard games or meeting engagements.

After that add more Mortek guard and possibly Kavalos, a Boneshaper and either stalkers or harvester depending on what you already got.

+1 on that, though I‘d rate praetorians equally strong to petrifex if you are taking Katakros. +1 to hit / save almost across the board combined with his other abilities will probably win you as many games as an additional rend as a CA will.

Then again I think Arkhan > Katakros and i dont want to spend 860 points on 2 leaders, so I prefer petrifex.

I'll add my personal experience. Be aware that it is only me 😉

When you start the army, you'll have to ask yourself also about the hidden costs (battletome, cards, dice, goodies, decors, ES...). You already answered about the Endless spells. I think that you forgot the decor which is in my opinion, mandatory (and a little bit OP at the zero cost in points. But it is not free in €£$. Don't forget it.

The key sentence above is "If you are on a budget and looking for an all comers list".

For all comers, I think that the very best of the best is...not ossiarch! lol. Arkhan is a killer. So, if you don't have him, it'd be a harder choice. If you already have him in a death army, it's a no brainer. Also, if you already have some harbinger, no need in short term of stalkers/immortis.

The core of the army, that you'll see in most armies is only 3 units: guards, kavalos and liege. At low points, 1  of each at upper points, at least 2 of guards (40) and 2 of kavalos (10) and 1 liege = 1080 points. Arkhan and another HQ (bonereaper for cheap useful or another according to your preference) and you already are above 1500. (1700+ if you already have harbingers...).

Me, and it is JUST ME : I had 3 boxes of feast of bones to start OBR. Already have Arkhan and death... I was excited to build around this. But I saw that it was an additional bare minimum of 150€. Not to finish the army, but just to get the minimum to play 2K with a bit of choice. I already have to finish several armies. I asked myself: what different things (from others) this army bring to me ? Not that much. (except that I love the minis). My pile of shame is already too big, the feast of bones already gave me an ogor army (for cheap). So, I decided: stop here. This is just a plastic (read= financial) immobilisation. I resold everything (almost at the UK FLGS market price) and got rid of OBR... except for ONE Vokmortian (because I know that I'll build this army in the (near) future). So, even if I start again OBR, I'd lost less than 10£€. But this budget game me enough to finish ogor and complete StD (whichare both > 3000pts with many army options).

So, my ultimate advice IF YOU ARE ON BUDGET: wait for bundles and finish your pile of shame/complete your existing armies which will give you more strategic options for cheap: sooner or later, there will be a SC!, almost sure with guards. I bet that one of the AoS next year battleforce will be OBR and giving the unit range, pretty sure that with 2 boxes, you'll have a good starting point.

  14. I was super disapointed not seeing the (actual) giants in the mawtribes battletome. They sould have been there. They fit superbly. But no. GW decided they don't fit. Weird choice. They'd have been magnificent, especially if they benefit from synergies.

I hope the same for the chaos giants (same kit) in the upcoming StD tome. But I'm pretty sure that i'll be disapointed once again....

Basically, the difference here is if he waits until the end, no unit survives to return guys to, while if it's after each wound is applied, then you can bring them back.  It's a big difference and critical for Crematorians.

that is typically what'd be FAQed because in one case guard are (almost) immortal (meaning OP) whereas in the other case they are resilient but ok (playable, I mean).
