Yeah, these concept are hardly original though.... you got both things in D&D already since the early 90s (sorry,  used to play Dark Sun). Thri-Kreen and Warforged. Or look at say Master of Orion, which got Silicoids. It's kinda impossible to create something completely new.

Not saying that's a valid reason to not make those races but  I'd actualy bet good money on "bugpeople" not being an overtly popular race in a fantasy context. I could of course be 100% wrong but it would be quite the risk to do something so unconventional when GW knows they'll have sure sales with some other stuff (looking at D&D, those first two mentioned races are actually mostly unpopular choices for player characters - which is a shame as they're cool but understandable as they're pretty "alien"). So I really wouldn't expect them to go for that.... it feels like all the talk about the Hrud, an alien race in 40k that has been hinted at and alluded to since 20+ years.... and yet I see no Space Skaven (or whatever else exactly they're supposed to be).

The whole Lovecraftian fishpeople thing could've been cool for Idoneth... instead they're just fishy Aelfs. I hope they'll branch em out.

I realize bugmen exist but I never really liked Thri-keen I know they do in fact exist but they just seemed like people to me like their culture and ways. Meanwhile Skaven and Lizardmen are both very original in their interrelations of these. Sometimes its not if its never been done before but the combination of everything adding up to make it truly unique its almost impossible to do any sort of original race in terms of looks because its all been done.  The problem is the Thri-Keen were not fleshed out as in depth as they could have been in my opinion like the battle tomes in Sigmar go into so much lore and depth and then the rpg's add to it even more so we get a functioning society for each of these races. It always felt like thri-keen were background race without much depth.

So if it's bug people what would a potential faction be

    1. Army based on a particular bug (ants, bees, etc)

    2. Army made up of many different bugs (ant battletine, beetle behemoths)

    3. Insect inspired army that isn't clearly any one insect

I want to see a race of actual insect like beings that use lots of various insects for battle. This would be be one of the most unique races to ever get fleshed out in a fantasy setting as getting any sort of bug person is rare but getting them al fleshed out would be great too like their culture would definitely put AoS on the map as a legit setting with its own races that don't exist anywhere else just like the LM and Skaven for fanatsy when released back in the day.  One more race like this a bizarre one and I'll be all happy on bizarre races for awhile lol.

I'm thinking cthulhu inspired fishmen. Even though its not the most original concept on the planet an army and functioning society of them could be.
Another weird idea would be a race of rock/crystal/gollum creatures from the realm of metal would be super cool.

    I think this as well.

    My bets on Silent People.

I'm shocked to say it but it very well could be. If it's just a race of centaurs that follow gork and ork I'll be completely let down or beastmen. AoS needs a few bizare races to call its own and either bugmen or bug worshipping men would be a cool way to do that. We've got lots of unsolved bug looking rumor engines too and it could only be Nids or silent people.

  4. Now for factions I have and want expansions on some ideas.

KO:  Big Daddy from Bioshock mech, a stealth KO ship, elite melee troops, a new named pirate character from Barak-Mhornar, a mad scientist character, and a new big torpedo ironclad ship, a flying steam mech that looks like the one from bioshock columbia, and a small and fast interceptor sky craft.  A mega ship even bigger than ironclads lol oh and a dedicated transport ship that isn't meant for combat but is cheap.

Deepkin: Giant battle killer whale seriously these things are OP IRL they can spin in the water to do an area of affect attack with their tails, they can jump, and even troll humans they are one of the most over powered creatures in the ocean so I don't know how they wouldn't be a great candidate to AoS ify add in a sonar pulse attack for maximum OP>
Want to also know whats scary? The rainbow shrimp it has a claw that can compress so fast and hard it shoots with the force of a real life 22. bullet now that is totally something the IDK would want in their army and it looks fab on top of all that.
    Giant whale transport
Giant squid cav with riders. Assassin hero who has an assassin hero giant octopus.

Gloomspite Gits: I want their basic infantry update badly after that we got a stew going. I want a megapede unit being ridden by gobbos as a big shock unit and a variant to make a transport. After that spiders spiders and more spiders. With that any and all sorts of goofy units oh I want to see spore cavalry what is it? Who knows but the gobin know wots tinkering on the spore cav.

Ogres: I want to see the beastclaw raiders get expanded on in the ogres tomb. I want to see a frost "roc" which is a mythical giant flying bird but this one can shoot ice from its mouth. One is a wild animal and one should have a named character/leader  I want them to get mammoth giant unit as well. I also want to see ice golems brought to life by the cold. Sabertooth cav remade to look more AoS and new modernized as it looks dated. I want to see new armored ogres in bones that are an elite melee troop for them as well. The biggest and baddest new unit would be an "ancient wedigo spirit" brought to life by the hunger of their gods this would be a very powerful and evil entity an an elite style monster of hunger and frozen death.  We need a new frost shaman hero and a new named character who is the best of that cast.

Seraphon revamp: They need a Necrons style and sized revamp from the ground up as their lore is cool but their models are so ancient and dated especially when I see what KS folks are doing. New units a quetzacotle style dragon is an absolute must. I also want to see the Seraphon adopt some technologies like gunpowder and a bit more armor remember this isn't the same old Seraphon's they survived the first war and learned and adapted to the new technologies of the time. Not too much of this though just a few units to show they've adapted to the modern style of fighting.

Fyreslayers: I know they are supposed to be not-armored but what  about an extremely elite unit or even a hero completely decked out in armor made form the dust lol how OP would that be? Now this armor is so expensive it could never be mass produced and is only for the elite of the elite. They need a fire wurm wtf is a wurm? It's sort of like a quateicotle looking dragon but from olde European myth. However there is nothing truly special about them they are more animal than dragon. This fyre wyrm would be so cool. After that we need them to construct lava golums. I think they should have an elite infantry a hybrid melee/skirmisher that can be used in both melee and ranged decently that throw lava tipped javelins. Also cute ash and lava dogs that can form big packs to support them in battle.

    Ironjaws:
These need an Necron style revamp and model release of almost everything from more infantry types, to more monsters, and more everything. My post would be too long listening everything so I'll go with the most needed. A non-elite cheap infantry option, ranged units, siege units, a giant stompy and angry wolverine what could be more orky than wolverines and honey badgers lol? After that packs of flying and angsty birds that follow them into battle.

  5. KO, Fyre, and Deepkin all need a huge mega update with a huge new amount of models. Lizardmen to have a huge revamp.

    New armies.
    - An insect race

    - Fishmen

    - A faction of ordered not dumb giants that are still orderly and have a kingdom or something. Who doesn't want to collect an army of gigantic heavily armored storm giants throwing lighting bolts?

    - New destruction god to have more variety in releases that fishmen and bugmen follow

    - Sky Grots

    - Iron Golem  attornach Dwarves

    - Ironjaws big time need another massive update

I like the idea of minor races that never see the tabletop, it adds depth to the world. I’d say that the remnants of the silent people now would be tiny pockets of their culture, more interested in hiding from the much more powerful major races than risking their complete destruction.

We never saw the fish men that lived near Naggaroth, the Hobgoblin khanate, or the various races of the Far East in the Old World either.

Having said that, they’d be fun to see in Beastgrave or even Warcry.

I'm bringing this up for is that people wondered if they could make an Age of Sigmar total war game and everyone laughed at how similar it would be. AoS feels like a spin-off of fantasy. I know the lore makes it very different but visually and even race lore wise there isn't too much difference between ogres from fantasy and ogres here in AoS. Lots of armies suffer from this and while AoS does have unique armies a very very few all too much of them like IDK and KO. On top of that these races all have tiny as heck rosters so even the few AoS specific races like these and fyre slayers could never hope to compete with the legacy factions in the setting and in TWWH3. I made the argument a long time ago these races need fleshing out but ohh boo it was too soon, but now its been a lot longer and Fyre still barely have an army to them. Feels like AoS is releasing too much mini-armies and if it did intend to update the smaller ones it sure seems like it won't. I wouldn't mind new armies if they weren't just spins on old ones like the bone guys being TK, the ghost bed sheets, and all that its been done so much by fantasy and other games. At this point AoS needs to make 2 extremely unique races and then get around to fleshing out the smaller ones for a bit then it can go back to making sigmar versions of old ones for a bit.

AoS has so much potential, but every year I see it squandered more and more and FW old world game get closer and closer.

  7. Man I love bizarre and original races like this AoS has not a single new and original race in its setting or game on the tabletop that it can call its own. When fantasy made Lizardmen and Skaven it set THE standard on what these races should be like and now it seems like 80% of the time when these races are added to a setting they share a lot of similarities to warhammer fantasy counterparts.

Now an army of bugmen would certainly put them on the map and they have been done in fantasy settings like Endless legend. AoS needs to make two completely new and bizarre races that have never been done before for me to come back and take it seriously as its own setting as right now its treading a very fine line of warhammer fan service and it feels like none of the new races they made for it get attention.  As it is now while things like KO, IDk, and gloom all earn them some serious points its not enough to make an entire setting as strange as the 9 realms feel real to me and even then they are just dwarves and elves very original takes mind you but still.

Out there no one cares about AoS as a setting because it feels too close to warhammer fantasy and still does. I'm really hoping GW can summon up an ounce of creativity and come up with two possibly 3 completely never before seen races for AoS. I want to love AoS and really do but it feels like its going way to close to warhammer fantasy and I already have warhammer fantasy I don't need two warhammer fantasies.

  8. Used to like AoS but it definitely feels like there are too many old characters coming back from the old world and factions. It feels less and less like Age of Sigmar with each passing year and more and more like Warhammer 9th edition from a lore stand point.

I don't know why they even created it at this point as its not the game I fell in love with.

  9. Been following this. Finally a game with no GW influence in the rules and balance. Much like ffg 40k line this has the potential to be a huge hit. I’ll need to dig into the PDF for sure. I’ll even get collector’s edition. Sigmar has fantastic lore.

I wouldnt go anywhere near calling KO a "dead" army.  We might of gotten one new Hero and no spells or terrain BUT what we desperately needed was new ship rules and more battleline, which is what we both got.

None of the 1.0 to 2.0 Armies got massive update on units. Its plain to see that GW was trying to get all Armies on the same page.  Which coming from a Fantasy background where armies could wait 6-7 years with no updates, I'm loving this new GW

You clearly didn't read the discussion. I wasn't talking about KO.

Just out of curiosity. Is there any army you feel they got right?

Most just not mine. Tau 8th Ed, dark Eldar (okay but still xenos in 8th), and Deathwatch brand new army murdered by Primaris lore and models. As for AoS I liked ironjaws and beastclaw raiders both now souped and effectively dead as their own factions also KO bad since original release. See why I was so skeptical. Seems like GW had a personal laser out for my armed if choice. KO might be the only good army I might have left.

So you are not rage quitting GW now?

    Who would have thought 🤷🏼‍♂️

Anyway, I hope all the doomsayers are feeling ashamed now, as expected those previewed rules looked very strong, thematic and fun. Maybe put a bit more trust into the company whose products you bought for so long now.

This is the first time they haven't messed up any of my armies in over 3 years. I was right to be skeptical.
