The first model I ever painted (back in middle school). Time to give him a new paint job and have Kragg the Grim join my Cities of Sigmar army!

Awesome!  I had him too back in the day.  Funnily enough, war gear wise he’s still perfectly useable today.

Honestly that's why I think so many of the High Elf kits got retired. They were very similar to their Dark Elf counterparts and the Dark Elf kits were newer and better looking for the most part. There was a picture somewhere on here of someone who kitbashed the Executioners with the heads for the Blackguard and painted them in High Elf colors. They basically just looked like updated Swordmasters.

You wouldn’t happen to have a link to that would you? :)

  3. I’m trying to stay positive about the changes.  They just might work out.  But is anyone else a little saddened by the discontinuation of the Duardin artillery?

Here’s the thing; there are several aelf factions (Phoenix Guard, Wanderers, Shadowblades etc) and several human factions (freeguild, colligate arcane, devoted of Sigmar etc.) but only one duardin faction, the dispossessed.  Wouldn’t it have been nice if the Ironweld Arsenal was primarily another Duardin faction?  The Cogsmith as the character, then the two artillery weapons and fliers as its units, and then they could have the steam tank and human artillery weapons too... or not.  Either way, I just think that it was premature to ditch them.  They were still serviceable, and it could hardly be worrying about duplicating units right?  Because Greatswords, Executioners and Hammerers are pretty similar when you think about it.

I just think they made a mistake here. 😞

Well there is that rumor of Clanshields being a "new" generic warrior unit that uses the longbeard models but you could easily use other duardin models for. I'm expecting warscroll rewrites on the level of the Fyreslayer 2.0 battletome. So here's to hoping to 2 wounds while we're at it.

Oh really?  That’s interesting.  What does this mean?  That the longbeards are being repurposed as regular warriors?

And 2 wound dorfs would be sweet!

  5. I’m pretty sure that the great axe and shield combo will be removed.  Got to make the regular hand weapons viable.

I have to admit, with the regular warriors gone, is there not a bit of a gap in their line up?  You’ve got ironbreakers and irondrakes who are like, elites.  You’ve got hammerers who are (even more?) elite bodyguards...and then you have longboards who whilst more elite than regular warriors were not quite as elite as the iron breakers and hammerers.

So now the longbeards are possibly the bottom tier troops despite being ‘veterans’...unless they’ve really reworked the war scrolls it seems like they’ll be incomplete.

Of course this is just me.  I’m ocd like that.

  6. I’m trying to be optimistic but this cull was pretty hard hitting.

The way I see it now, the dispossessed are missing all their core troops.  I could see the unforged going tbh, and I was on the fence about the core unit kits, but the artillery was a blow.

I’m an optimist.  What I’m hoping, is that they’re just having a clear out of the old kits, and this book is a get you by, and then going forward they’ll bring out new kits.  I hope.  And I accept that that is a long shot.

I wonder if that means the era of Great Weapons and Shields for our plucky warriors is over?

I would be incredibly surprised if it wasn’t.  Come on let’s face it, it was a bit of an oversight.  A sort of hold over from fantasy that doesn’t quite work in AoS.

  8. That sounds promising! :D

And I’ve always seen the unforged as a sort of dwarfish version of a flagellant.  They should probably try to keep pushing that angle to distinguish them from fireslayers.

And I honestly wouldn’t understand why they wouldn’t sell them as boxes of 20.  It would solve a lot of issues.

  9. Those plastic kits with 16 minis in them?  The duardin warriors, the glade guard etc?  They come in sprues of 4 don’t they?

I swear, while they are dated, they’re still usable.  If they just crammed in an extra sprue and sold them as boxes of 20 they’d be good to go.  Then they could replace them or keep them.

  10. I think that all the fine cast/metal miniatures still remaining plus the very old plastic kits with odd numbers will go.

But I hope that they won’t.  Especially because they managed to retain some old Skaven minis.

If they keep the profiles at least then they can happily carry on into the future.

Yeah this is awful the more I think about it. I’m hoping this is a sort of temporary thing as well. If this turns out to not be temporary though, I vote we collaborate and make a tome ourselves.

I’m always dappling in rules design.
