  1. The only models (which were used before) that can return are:

    - Tomb Guard kit

    - Necrosphinx kit

    - Necropolis Knights kit

Rest is very old so even if they make something simmilar it will get new model 100%

The aesthetic of the new army IMHO will be something like Morghasts, Arkhan, Nagash - the armor they have is very simmilar, also knight from the teaser has simmilar ornament on the shield as Arkhan on his dragon armor.

You're forgetting something. The Freeguild are all really scrappy little guys. Scrappiness equals +1 to their save.

Never forget, every Freeguild soldier is someone Sigmar DIDN'T have to save while every Stormcast Eternal is someone who'd be dead if Sigmar had not saved them. 😤

Actualy someone who fled to Azyr for Sigmar's protection instead of fighting Chaos :P

One only attacks once per turn, parrying the rest of the time. Thus gaining +1 save in melee.

The other attacks twice, thus not gaining a +1 save in melee.

The base guard is 5+, and with any weapon other than a sword, it stays the same.

The base of this Stormcast has a nonsensical but more covering armour, and is 4+, together with generals and demigryphs. The difference in depiction between 5+ and 4+ is breastplate/demicuirass vs full plate. 6+ is just a helmet or thick clothes.

If you want to see odd saves, look at the Warpriests, they seem rather lightly armoured for their save.

It is also stated that save could partly be skill, so Stormcast might just be clumsy?

I understand your point ;) but the current models dont look like exceptionally skilled sword fencers more like a militia style rabble. The stormcast basicaly have low stats comparing to the description of Sigmar's finest warriors in best armor etc, but thats another story.

The guards have 5+, which fits most other units in breastplate or demicuirass. Swordsmen have 4+ in melee because of their parry ability, and Indomitable may have you remembering it wrong, but 5+ is the base stat.

    Both 4+

Kinda different quality of armor xD

I don't think the Greatsword on the cover is 100% accurate to the models either. I don't recall a time when GW outright replaced an existing plastic battleline for AoS, in fact it's one of the recurring themes; that being a pre-existing plastic troops kit for a range of models to then be expanded, like Daughters of Khaine.

We won't get knights back; Demigryphs fulfill this role with a more fantastical approach, which AoS almost always has when making new models.

I don't know why Ironweld, Collegiate and Devoted would become Freepeoples when this isn't a Freepeoples book specifically. It's their book too.

GW are very much an: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, kind of company. Guard and Gunners are dated, but they're not exactly horrible models.

Greatswords are not 100% acurate right, but the guard is like 10% accurate - more like a greatsword with one handed sword and wep. The gunner & guard details are fine, but they just don't fit the new aesthetic, they look like a rabble from the old Empire (some even don't have boots, and check the faces :D) while stat wise they have 4+save with shields (same as golden boyz in full sigmarite armor haha) Though i agree with you the chance of getting new kit is low.

Demis are monster cavalry, and the old knight kit was dropped because it was so old that it looked realy bad. Since there are horses and knights why not combine them, lore wise it's also ok as you have... undead knights.

Why i'm thinking about the Ironweld, Collegiate and Devoted is that they are factions that alone are pretty useless and GW is getting rid of such leftovers or merging them.

  6. My thoughts:

    - Demis - stay, repack

    - Greatswords  -stay, repack

    - General kit - stay, repack

    - Guards - stay, repack or replace with new kit (check the art on the book, does not look like the current one)

    - Handgunners/Xbow - stay, repack or replace with new kit (to match the guards)

    - Pistoliers / outriders - stay

    - General on griffon - stay

    - Archers... might be gone

    Possible new unit:

    - Knights

I'm wondering will they include half of Ironweld & Collegiate & Devoted to Freepeople

  7. The official bases that GW used for pegs seem to be 50mm. Here are some photos of GW's  models (same models as used in books for photos) on rounds. (from the Warhammer World exposition).

Should it depend on the roll or the actuall distance traveled ? (mind that the second might be easy to exploit)

It makes sense distance traveled (closest points of units), but i'm no rule writer, just giving an idea that seems fun for me.

  9. I have a suggestion for a fun rule. There should be a bonus for charging base on the charge distance - this is realistic - the more speed you get, the more impact on hit (3" charges should have almost no bonus), but not overpowered since it increases the chance to fail.

  10. An Old World Expandion for AoS with army composition rules and poits would be amazing.

They can keep making their Legacy compendiums with named characters, maybe some day they will expand them.

The only problem is that they should not erase Brets, TK and the leftover units from matched play...

  11. Compendium got removed, ok that's one thing. But there was NO official information that the old scrolls are removed from matched, also in the web builder APP they are still avaiable.

The new scrolls have different unit names so theoreticaly until GW states otherwise you can still use them as the new ones are something different not same named, updated veersions of old ones.

Also as interesting sidenote from GW site :

    Quote

The rules presented here are designed to be definitive, and will only be updated when we change the core mechanics of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. This means that Legends units are not designed for matched play (as they won’t, for example, have yearly points updates).

They won't have yearly points updated - seems that GW left a gap there, they could just write - "they will not have points at all".

But this hasn’t taken up production time at all. It’s just an easy to produce filler period for them that’s adding plus content for people with large Dark Elf collections.

A lot of those factions probably will get a Battletome, but obviously haven’t yet. I don’t know how GW could have done better with their AoS drops this year, with almost 1 Battletome a month, and more rumoured to come.

This IS a waste of time, I'd rather wait for full Warhammer Legends book with full compendiums, points, army build rules than a single PDF which has no use. Not to mention DE did not need that and they could spend the time on TK / Bret Compendiums to add allegiance & revise points.

But GW just released for the third time a full rules update for an outdated army (Dark elves) for an unsupported game (WFB), for free, and people would call it low effort and low time ? That's not fair.

Noone asked for DE compendium as they already made DE into subfactions - with allegiances or even battletomes. Instead they could spend the time making allegiance & balanced points for Brets & TK. Reactions would be much different.

And to be honest - to make narrative games in Old Worlds you need ALL comepediums not just one... Untill all are released what is the use of this, making people angry ?

  14. Still without points you cannot make any organized play. Imagine GW relese all compendiums for the Legends (hahahahaha 10 years later) and your local group want to make an event to play in old world. How you handle army composition?

This just brings things back to 2k15 where GW got smashed in the face for what AoS was, also they said the dont want to add any points to their uber system... And what we have now? Points, army composition rules etc.

The DE Legends does not change much, 90% of the units were available in mini factions, so still can be played in matched. But if they do the same with TK and Brets they gonna get a ton of hate since that will erase 2 armies from matched play.

Another thing is if these scrolls even technically replace those from old compendiums with points?  If you check closer all units have their name changed, called Dark elf something while the ones from old compendium dont.

  15. 28 minutes ago, Jamopower said:

Aren't the Brets and TK already sort of wiped out of matched play due to their rules being so weak in comparison to their points costs and to the amount of special rules and synergies the new armies have?

No idea about TK. Brets are not top tier army, but you can make a fun playable rooster - if they make the new compendium I won't be able to play them anymore... T9A awaits probably as they didn't put bretonnia to some existing sub-faction.

  16. So far useless. Probably will take ages for them to create full compendiums for all old-world factions - before that happens what can you do with one army compendium LOL.
Also without points or any army composition rules it does not make much sense - part of fun of Warhammer is to design your army & strategy. They already got smashed in the face when AOS was released like this, maybe they like it.

Just hope they wont release Bret & TK compendiums in this form any soon as 2 full armies will be wiped from matched play... not just few old heroes like in DE case.

  17. The biggest question is how they want to maintain it - Dark Elves - only few models were not avaiable in the new armies:

    LHPpN6y.png

Also a good question is... where to get the scrolls for them now? The new compendium chaged the names - so basicaly are new units now.

Most of the compendiums are few old models, biggest problem is Bret & TK as they got compendium with points for whole armies - especialy designed for AOS by removing all Old World fluff connection & changing names to generic ones - will they put them in GHB 2k18?

I'm also interested what is the change between the 2k15 compendium of the DE & the new one - did they really change anything or just re-post same file and call it new?

I think this is a great move, theres a clear split between these rules and AoS matched play. I absolutely do not want GW to waste resources trying to balance discontinued armies with points and allegiance abilities, but this provides a happy medium for when i want to dabble in old world history in open play.

I imagine there will be uproar when they get to TK and or Brets, and i admit i would be a bit uncomfortable if they were to make great plastic kits like the warsphinx or pegasus knights available for a week without adapting them into a new range... we live in interesting times!

Thats what troubles me, for Dark Elves - 90% of their models are avaiable in the mini factions. But TK and Brets? The compendiums are already striped of any named characters & lore  - how will they handle it to allow both matched play & old world guys,

    • Haha 1
  19. Tbh i don't like it. What's the point of this if there are no points, they already got smashed in the face for AOS as it was in the beginning, this is no use.

What's more for the dark elves 90% of the models were avaiable as sub factions with their respective warscrolls already re-designed for AOS.

Now you have 2 warscrolls for same units lol, legacy and modern one lol.

Wonder how will they handle Brets and TK, the compendiums already re-designed these armies for AOS removing all old world fluff.
