  1. A few reminders prior to this event on Saturday

    1. The venue is the Shadwell Village Hall NOT the scout hut where it has been previously - here's a google map https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Shadwell+Village+Hall/@53.8528741,-1.4837058,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x6d5a6fa315381424!8m2!3d53.8519628!4d-1.4737924

    2. Please bring your Malign Portents book and cards if you have them. I will have photocopies on a board for people to peruse if they do not have them, but MUCH easier if you have your own.

    3. Please bring 5 pieces of scenery. If you do not have any - let me know ASAP and I will provide some for you.

    4. We are still accepting entries (just added another today) I will accept entries right up till 9am on Saturday - just before we start!

  2. Okay, so the SCGT 2018 pack is out. Find it at http://heelanhammer.com/SCGTdownloads/SCGT2018eventpack.pdf

It's confirmed that 2 of the games are missions from Malign Portents Book - Dark Omen, and Heralds of Woe. The prophecy points will be used too, so read up on them. I have a couple of queries about the rules, so will try to get them clarified by Dan or Russ before our event, and post here.

So the other scenarios are Battle For The Pass, Duality of Death, Star Strike, and Total Conquest. I am happy to play any of these as the third scenario on the day. So if you have one which you particularly want to play, then please post below, otherwise we'll roll for it on the day.

  3. I see Dan Heelan has tweeted that 2 of the scenarios at SCGT 2018 will be "using the two Malign Portents Matched play scenarios at the event. For those two games the portent ‘buffs’ rules are live also"

These are 'Dark Omens' and 'Heralds of Woe'. I am sure that most people (like me) have never played these and are unfamiliar with them. So they will be two of the scenarios that we will be playing at the Leeds SCGT Warmup Event on 21st April. Details at

We will also be using the Malign Portents Points Buffs - as set out in the SCGT pack when it is released. An excellent opportunity to practice these rules beforehand rather than spending half a game at the SCGT event trying to learn them on the fly.

  6. Event Title: SCGT Warmup Event - 1 Dayer - Leeds 21st April
    Event Author: Soup Dragon
    Calendar: Events UK
    Event Date: 04/21/2018 09:00 AM to 04/21/2018 06:30 PM

    Leeds Last Stand presents:

    SCGT Warm-up Event 2018

    Saturday 21st April 2018

    3 Games

    SCGT Comp

    £20 Including Lunch

    Shadwell Village Hall
    Main Street
    Leeds
    LS17 8JF

It's that time of year again - SCGT tickets will be released soon along with this year's pack. Everyone who goes will need to practice the scenarios, and anyone not going would like to have a go at them, so Leeds Last Stand are doing a warm-up event where everyone can try out some of the scenarios in a competitive environment.

This is a One Day event where we will play 3 of the scenarios to be played at SCGT. The rules will be EXACTLY as per the official SCGT rules so I'll put links to the pack as it is released.

We are trying a NEW VENUE . As 'atmospheric' as the scout hut is, it's also a little care worn, so this time the venue is Shadwell Village Hall. It's at the other end of Shadwell village from the scout hut, it's very nice venue with it's own car park, and a bus stop right outside. Unfortunately it's much more expensive to hire, hence increase in ticket cost. To keep event timings under control there will be a buffet lunch provided. For those of you disappointed that there's no roast dinner, don't worry, we are doing a "4 Games and Roast Lunch" later in the year.

Free drinks (tea, coffee, pop, cordial) and biscuits all day. If you want alcoholic drinks, then you'll need to bring your own tinnies this time.

Everyone will be expected to bring 5 pieces of scenery. I do have some spare, and so if you really don't have any then let me know and I can provide you with some.

However, as this is a 'warmup event' for people to try out new units and lists you do NOT need to have painted models, BUT they do need to be WYSIWYG and on the correct sized bases.

Initially there are 24 places, but this can be increased if there is the demand.

Please send payment via Paypal to paulrosann@aol.com using friends and family.

I'll add more info as it unfolds

Need to score serious Brownie points first though as already going to 2 dayer, 2 weeks before this. Wish me luck in negotiating a pass

Scored the requisite brownie points, and after some serious haggling - I'm In!! Let me know how to pay for a ticket - once it's bought then there's no way I can have my permission cancelled, is there? IS THERE?

  8. Morning Stu, my pedanticism (is that even a word?) is getting the better of me and so I have a couple of queries about some of the rules in play at Northern Invasion.

Firstly, regarding House Rule 3. Line of Sight. Just to be clear - if I have 30 Savage orc arrowboys in three ranks of 10, all touching bases, only the first rank can shoot as the other ranks cannot see through the first rank right? If I have a Big Boss sat behind them he is hidden by the arrowboys from enemy units of the same height or less? The Rule then says about missile troops not being able to shoot through - does that apply to non-missile troops e.g. spells (arcane bolt and mystic shield require line of sight).  Some missile units have rules which say they do not require line of sight (trebuchets for e.g.) I presume that although they are missile units they are still OK to shoot over? Personally I think this rule is going to be great fun, but it is going to make a HUGE difference to the game so everyone needs to be clear about it before we get started.

Secondly, Weather table 3. Rolling Ha. I get the 12" visibility and love that too. But as above, some units do not require line of sight - again Trebuchet as example, or Beastclaw Bloodvultures. Can they shoot at targets over 12" away? Some abilities can target units anywhere on table - Stardrake's Rain of Stars springs to mind - can they target units more than 12" away? What about abilities that place a marker more than 12" away and then do area of effect? e.g. Celestant on Dracoth with artefact picks a point (that doesn't have to be in line of sight) within 16" and then has AoE around that. Does it have to be within 12"?

It's getting close now Stu. Looking forward to this. Does being a pernickety ****** increase my chances of getting badge of shame? Hope so, I had it last time!

  9. It's always great to have new events and new TOs. Having run several one-dayers myself, can I offer a few suggestions based on my experience:

    1. Have the date in the title

    2. Have the venue prominent in the body of the text. Also good to have the town/city in the title

    3. 2 hours per round for 2000 point games is pushing it. Many games won't get finished in that amount of time.

Hope that is helpful. Feel free to contact me if you need anyone to bounce ideas off.
