  1. Don’t worry guys, if this game ends up killing off AoS everyone can still use the models and rules already here, they won’t go away...

...just being cheeky, enjoying the delicious irony of the complaints that WHFB might end up damaging AoS!

This must be a response to their last survey. I wonder if this is their idea of ‘legends’ growing legs after a lot of bring ‘back the old world’ feedback.

It’s bound to mean new models with the Old World aesthetic so I can’t wait personally.

Hello, now i'm building a army of beastclaw raiders more gutbusters. Any idea of the continuity of all of this models?

I want a army with suport from games-workshop (i needn't a ultra competitive tier 1-2 army but this must be playable).

For this moment, i purchase te battle starter of beastclaw raiders and 9 ogors. In this week i want purchase 1 x Ironblaster,
    6 x Ironguts 3 x LeadbelchersThundertusk Beastriders.

In Spain this is  huge spend of money and i am very worried for the continuity of this models after read this topic (i only have a LoN and FEC army and iron warriors in 40k). This would be my last AoS army. And if workshop not join this batteltomes or canceled the models i will sell the soldiers that i have already bought.

In all honestly it’s best to wait, like Overread said Ogres are coming, but who knows in what form.

  3. They could have been upfront with what was getting the chop long before it went out of stock, instead of increasing their visibility with community articles and new GHB rules for mercs and duping people into buying them, and let those of us who like the models for other stuff snap em up. To say this is how it has to be is beyond daft.

Yes you can ‘counts as’ till your hearts content, just the same as I could glue Peppa Pig toys to a base and sharpie a name on it... to each there own I guess.

AoS is a tournament led game now, despite how it may have started, so yeah I stand by saying that ‘legends’ is a useless place to find yourself playing from. You will get trounced, regardless of what tournament stats say (as you say they aren’t matched legal so wouldn’t even feature in tournament stats, so I don’t really get your point here.)

Back in WHFB they replaced their entire metal range with new plastic sprues, for almost every army. Those that weren't eventually given at least some plastic kits were eventually discontinued. Halflings used to be a thing, for instance, Dwarves used to wear Renfair clothing like The Empire, Wood Elves looked like Robin Hood: Men in Tights, but with massive mohawks (the new Bloodbowl models have a similar aesthetic), and there were rather a lot of old war machine kits in metal that were replaced, notably for Skaven, Chaos, Dwarves, Empire, Orcs&Goblins...

You get the idea. There has always been significant roll-over for models as technology advances, molds wear out, and the company responsible wants to give their customers something new to model, construct and paint - and give new players something to acquire. GW does want to make new models for things as much as possible, and that eventually means getting rid of everything currently available over time and creating new things.

This doesn't mean you have to buy them, of course - but GW's business model is to make you want to. If you as a customer sour to their practices because you've grown very attached to the models you've had for, at this point, potential decades, that's largely on you. They've supported them with rules and/or points for the whole stretch of AoS, they know people have genuine affection for their collections and they've not disrespected that imo.

They even kept a lot of old metal models in circulation with Finecast (which was sadly rubbish in the end, but an honest effort to keep their metal molds usable instead of junking all of them at once), which was a costly prospect for them in terms of development and didn't even end up breaking even. They wouldn't have done that if they didn't care about people being able to buy those models for as long as possible.

That said, new collectors shouldn't have to buy 15 year-old models when GW can make much better things now, with the altered aesthetic they are currently developing their games with. It's also important to remember that just because you buy a thing it doesn't mean that thing will be useable forever, or that it will always be a current thing. You don't have to buy the latest thing to be 'safe', but if you buy the oldest thing, you should probably keep in mind that the oldest things will be the first to be discontinued or otherwise replaced with newer things.

Let's be honest, the old WHFB ranges are not, in the end, AoS minis, and expecting all of them to be produced for the entire stretch of AoS's life is unrealistic. It's sad to see them go, but at this point it's a matter of stock and a genuine need to produce new things as a company.

There’s definite truth in this, but it is handled appallingly by GW. The latest GHB made a big thing of mercenary units that they planned on deleting, likely to help shift the last of the stock. It was the same when they released a community article bigging up the Orc Warboss whilst planning to delete him and his compadres from the game in a week or two (I know, I know, legends is available, but playing AoS without the latest filth list is generally an exercise in futility so telling people they can still use them in legends is bunk).

The writing was on the wall for classic armies but I am sad that GWs awesome minis are no longer available for other games. The classic tropes are classic for a reason and a lot of people like them, despite all the ‘burn the old world stuff’ kids on here. The proposed notice of these models going out of production was a fable, so folks are gonna be cheesed off.

It’s perhaps a necessary evil, but crickey it is done in a lousy way.

They must be scrapping all the fluff as well. No longer will Tempest's Eye be guarded by the spireguard etc.  It's all a bit of a joke really, why even bother mentioning these things in the first place if GW were planning on cutting them out?

I think we have to accept that the lore is something GW are quite happy to disregard as it suits. The whole AoS world was built from a purely commercial mindset from the get go (sales pitch; marines in fantasy) so we shouldn’t really expect it to be treated with a great deal of respect by its creators beyond how it is used to make money (they’re a business after all).

It’s a flimsy world premise that is used as vehicle to flog awesome models, that’s all.

Same in the Spanish store. I really hope that, at least, the dragons/Dragon blades of the High Elves are reboxed. Or that this comes with a "teaser" of the new Light Elves. I'm very disappointed right now :(, all my excitement with Cities of Sigmar has disappeared.

I really doubt it’s anything to do with reboxing unfortunately... I endured the same when the Orcs were removed, that hope being crushed!

  7. I definitely agree it’s not the same game without the double turn, hence my preference for swapping it out! Although I can see the merits of the idea you put forward I still think my preference will be to just drop the rule, as even being able to impact the roll won’t change my dislike of the double once it happens, whichever direction it lands.

I usually play in a very personalised way anyway, and nearly always with a custom battleplan, and it’s far easier to formulate this with a normal turn order in mind.

Another double turn discussion!  I think you MUST have it.

Shooting becomes too powerful without it because you can almost always sneak away before the opposition get there.  Teleporting snipers are frustrating enough.  Imagine if you could never get there in time for them to pop away again.

Also, a ton of magic becomes very weak.  It's range is way too low.  You would always just be a little away every time because you knew that next turn, you could just be a little away again.

Anyone else ever make a 9 inch charge?  I know I haven't.  Dropping in units becomes the worst because you are basically signing up to get your face smashed in by your enemy next turn when you inevitably fail that 9 inch charge.   The alternative?  Everyone is always 10 inches farther away than the other person's move characteristic.  Yawn.  If you think waiting two turns is boring, try playing a game where all you are doing is making sure you can't get charged.  Welcome back to fantasy.

The double turn is absolutely fine with a small modification.  Players need some control over it.  That's it.  As long as it's not just TOTALLY random, it's fine.

For everyone who hates it, try this small mod (my area has been doing it for months now).  Each team gets 5 "tactical dice".  Each of those dice can be added to the initiative roll once per game.  Before rolling, select in secret how many extra tactical dice you're going to roll along with your initiative die.  Highest total wins.

I've never heard a single complaint about the double turn since we've started doing this. I have heard "I should have thrown more dice" or "I wish I'd have saved my dice instead of throwing all of them".  It puts the game back on the players and not on the luck of the dice.

I did consider trying this after you posting it before, had it snap shotted on my phone, but never got round to it. Matched play dudes prefer to play with rules as they are, because tournaments, and narrative guys were just happier forgoing it as we had been already.

My personal dislike for the rule isn’t down to any tactical decisions (I never have any of those anyway) just the negative play experience of it. I don’t like it happening to me, and derive no joy when I get it as it just makes me remember all the times I’ve been doubled. I don’t personally get how people can say it’s better than normal IGOUGO as it takes the bad aspect of it, the long period of helplessness, and literally doubles it. It’s twice as bad!

I love the double turn.  I don't play large games though, only to around 1250, so I could definitely see the wait time being less than fun for 2000+ point games.

I think this is a large part of it. If the initial intent of AoS was smaller games with a steady churn of micro factions, picking up a start collecting and playing your pal with a start collecting box, then getting double turned wouldn’t be too bad as the turns would move fast. But as the 2,000 point standard is the norm now getting doubled is excruciatingly boring to be on the end of. I never play with the rule and don’t think I ever will again, as i prefer big narrative games as other games handle small conflicts better (got to give another shout out to warlords of erehwon here!) in my opinion.

Interestingly it’s the matched play guys in our group that like the rule, and us narrative / open play buffoons that don’t. I guess cause the narrative games we play are more aggressive in nature and not as ‘gamey’ so spending turn after turn quivering in our own deployment zones lest we get double turned isn’t to our taste.

Good on the people who enjoy it though, we all get to play the way we like, long live the houserule!

Have you seen anything concrete about UK prices? So far I have only seen US and Canada price increases.

Would like to know as it might push me to buy a few things earlier. :)

It’s definitely happening in UK, i think some independents have already updated their websites, and at the risk of being the ‘my uncle works for Nintendo’ guy I know from a friend who’s a GW manager that it’s coming.

Edit; I just checked Dark Sphere and the price of the Lord of Change reflects the increase.

  11. Got my first tournament coming up and picked Khorne for lullz and skullz.

I’m looking to pick up a few more models and get painting ASAP so want to make sure my list is not complete nonsense if anyone would mind taking a look? I am realistic about not winning my first competitive event but also don’t want to get completely stomped!

    Reapers of Vengeance

    Battalion; Blood Host

    General

    Blood thirster of insensate rage

    2+ to hit artefact

    6 bloodcrushers

    20 bloodletters

    20 bloodletters

    Skull cannon

    5 flesh hounds

    5 flesh hounds

    Bloodmaster Herald

    Slaughterpriest

    2+ ignore spells artefact

    Bronzed flesh

    10 bloodwarriors

    Bleeding Icon

    Wrath axe

The basic plan is to hold back the bloodwarriors and skull cannon or hounds on my own objectives and send the other daemons forth to conquer, with the bloodthirster hacking away twice on his 2+ to hit. Slaughterpriest will chill out on his skull altar and call forth the Judgements and dish out some buffs.

  12. I’m really intrigued what this new paint product is. Honestly stumped thinking what could reduce the grey shame pile (unless GW are going to only allow you to buy more models when you send em a photo of you holding your last purchase fully painted and a copy of that day’s news paper.)

So, i'm as anybody a little disappointed for fyreslayer and i think the new models for slaanesh looks good. The spells en the KoS are the best imho.

And for Warcry its a good news to see that there will be 9 non chaos faction available. But do they will have new models? Thats another real question.

And on the models for warcry, i want to make a comment over... THE NEW PLASTIC OGOR !!

So ok it is a chaos ogor, but still! Is it a hint to whats next for ogor / gutbusters? Because he looks different. He's more ripped, have less fat and more muscle than the "normal"  ogor who looks more like Homer Simpson than schwarzeneger...

I’m really liking the return of the idea that chaos warbands have a diverse spread of races in them, hopefully it’s a sign of more to come.

It's is really not that far fetched. The Romans built an entire walled camp anytime they had to stay somewhere for longer than a day. It doesn't really seem that hard to imagine that the fyreslayers would bring material to build a forge with them on campaign.

    Also it's an awesome model.

A few feet from the enemy lines? Whilst the enemy was also building their own encampment, under some sort of builders truce?

    It’s daft. Nice model though.

  15. What ever Warcry turns out to be, I can’t imagine it will be long before expansions add the ability to include non-chaos factions.

I hope it has the scope to really personalise and evolve the warbands. I doubt we’ll see the D1000 chaos attribute charts return but something along those lines would be great.

The six icons are probably tribal but it would also be cool if it possibly explored the idea of the lesser powers of Chaos.

(Apologies for the wish listing I know it aggravates some folks beyond all reason!)

Looking at the sold listings on EBay £35 is about the going rate for Slaanesh half so yeah you wouldn’t have gotten it cheaper I don’t think! I tend to think of selling anything I don’t need as pure profit as if I’m not gonna use it then getting money for something I am is a no brainier good thing.

Yeah but in the end it all ends up back in the GW tills... I bought the box for Warhammer Quest monsters only and now I am collecting a slaanesh army ha ha.

The main issue with flipping whole boxes on EBay is that retailers get a discount so especially in respect to popular items like Starter Sets you’re never going to be able to compete with their priced without taking a loss.

If you buy a set you just don’t need a half of then obviously selling it on that sense is kind of pure profit because if you bought the half you want seperaykey as new it would cost you more than what you pay for the box versus what you would get back in selling the other half.

However even then that’s working on the assumption that you can’t just buy the box half you want on Ebay for less than that, which you almost certainly will be able to for a long time. You get halves of Soul Wars etc at present for very little.

But flipping models for profit is tough unless they’re rare or out of production or whatever. Selling on new stuff you’re always going to be in a competition with retailers who get the product cheaper than you in the first place, and who will also offer more robust buyer’s protection etc. I dont think your friend will make a huge loss or anything but they’re going to have to willingly charge more than the going rate, somehow have people pay that rather than get the same cheaper elsewhere, and feel ok about doing that to make a profit.

I paid £75 for wrath and rapture and sold karanak, the bloodletters, and the blood crushers for about £40, so I definitely think it was a good move considering what I ended up with for £35, selling stuff unwanted stuff from battle boxes on eBay is great!

But yeah buying a start collecting and trying to sell it for more than it costs for new from a discounter isn’t gonna pan out well.

  18. 42 minutes ago, bsharitt said:

Some people with say something along the lines of "split a box" while not considering that's probably not a realistic option for most people ans suggestions to buy the whole box and flip the rest on ebay are even dumber.

New on sprue stuff sells really well on eBay, you can make a good bit back.... having suggested this route to someone before i’m now worried  I was dumb?
