  1. I had a game with a lofnir list against death (arkhan) over the weekend with a little bit of everything aurics, hearthguards and vulkites. I was pleasantly surprised how efficient the double axes vulkites are. I had 2 10 man who both were charged by reapers at the same time, one 10 man manage to down a morghast due to berzerk fury and the other squad gets to essentially swing twice and kill 15 reapers on his turn which let me move on to his gravesites on my turn.

Although a 2+ reroll 1s (from a nearby ancient magmadroth) reduce rend 1 magmadroth (it's own trait) is practically a tank against all the reapers.

    Aurics had no decent targets.

    Hearthguards are amazing per expectations.

Also KO is THE worst faction for young players to start playing.

Nah. The worst would be something that may not have any updates at all.

That being said, when introducing new players, I always start with the narrative, then find a battletome army they'll enjoy. And I recommend Ironjaws and BCR over KO, anyday.  🤣

  3. Pretty excited to try a couple of lists, not 100% on the points cost yet but gonna try this on the weekend:

    Lofnir

    • Runesmither on Magmadroth, Lofnir artefact, +1 Save Prayer
    • Runeson on Magmadroth
    • Runeson on Magmadroth
    • Runemaster - General, +1 Save Prayer (for redundancy)
    • Battlesmith - Spell immune 4+ artefact aura
    • 5 Auric Hearthguard
    • 5 Auric Hearthguard
    • 5 Auric Hearthguard
    • 15 Broadaxes Hearthguards
    • Forge Brethen
    • Flamespiter
    • Runicwall

Don't think you'll leave the magmahold without bringing some Hearthguard berzerkers. Those guys are choppy. Magmadroth will have at least 3+ save rerolling 1, a couple might have 2+ rerolling 1s. Would struggle against non-spell mortal wounds.

my thoughts are that Fyreslayers werent combined with other dwarfs as they may not be sure what to do with dispossed yet, and so they got a disappointing release.

There's an interesting snippet on 'duardin' alliance in the fyreslayers book. :v

The folks who are imagining holding multiple objectives with a single unit of 30 should remember that a unit can only claim one objective at a time.

Huh? I thought a big unit that claim multiple objectives. Is there anywhere that is said that a unit could only control one?

"A model can only be counted towards gaining control of one objective per turn. If one of your models could be counted towards gaining more than one objective, you must pick which one they are counted towards that turn"

Do we know for certain that the save is gone? After all, when Bonesplittaz got their second wound, their Warpaint save just moved from their warscroll to the Allegiance Abilities.

All speculation at this point. When I went through the article, an additional wound plus 4+++ sounds absolute broken. Then I realize that (like many), an additional wound makes more sense if there's no warscroll after-save.  It's entirely possible that it becomes an allegiance ability … but seems unlikely.

  7. Fyreslayers are coming!!! Let me use my Magmadroths (and not feel bad about using them) !!! 3 Magmadroths spewing mortal wound breaths and murdering poor sods with claws and horns.

I was hoping for a bigger buff on the broadaxe hearthguard since... I got 30 of them but that'll do.

Had a game last night and much to my surprise the real standout unit was 6 screamers.  They didn't do a lots of wounds but the combination of being super fast, reasonably tanky (18 wounds and -1 to hit), flying and having relatively small bases (can fit in small spaces) means they are great for capturing and protecting objectives.  Nice to see a unit I usually take resentfully to fill up a Changehost actually pulling it's weight.  Probably still not going to field the 30 I own :P

Their official aos base is huge. 50mm if I remember correctly.

Lots of points and potentially pinning your LoC down to your side of the battlefield and you'll still only get an ok summon turn 2 and maybe another turn 4.

It is tempting to sit back and just shoot a spell through the portal every turn but my plan is slightly different. I plan to use the portal to snipe key character pieces like Hag queens, Bloodsecretors, knight incantors etc. Then move the LoC forward, either ignoring the portal entirely or have the pinks have fun throwing spells thought it. I think that's worth 60 points to have that utility but a lot more game time needed to see if it's worth it.

Can always dispel the portal and summon it back if I need it. If it's not working out, the Doomblast Dirgehorn looks like a good replacement.

I'd concentrate on max making the LoC tanky (Gryph feather and Incorporeal form is a personal favourite) and use it aggressively to keep the heat off the Tzaangors.

I have tried this build and it works but after awhile, people learn to bog down the big bird instead and keep vulnerable targets out of reach. It is tanky and hard to deal with though especially with Cogs' reroll saves.

So, I am exploring other builds at the moment.

Trying out this list. No idea which herd to choose as of yet or the artefacts. The reason behind the list is because I only need to buy  a Great Bray Shaman, a herdstone (and another Tzaangor Shaman) to complete. If only, I can use under Tzeentch allegiance...

There's only one true brayherd model. xD

  12. Big blocks of Tzaangors are out, now MSU Tzaangors and Enlightened are in! Nah going to try the Tzaangor Coven with the new changes. Spellportal could be changed out for the dirgehorn from BoC. Skyfire is for fire support, backline unit assassin and objective capture.

I really love the Ogroid, in small games I tend to use a fair few DD on him. A 6 will guarantee a successful fireblast (they can unbind, but you have an average of 9.5 on the cast), and the horrors made are useful.

I always wondered about that, some say use both for DD, others say I can roll one die (out of 2 for casting) then DD the other and others say I have DD before I roll any dice (even when fast dicing for shooting attacks!).

I believe you can; that's what Rhu (I can't remember his name) claimed in the Beasts of Chaos Twitch stream. He said that the marked battalions would not take up ally points.

There are difference between designer's intent/community manager's interpretation than the RAW interpretation of the wider community.

So does not having an allegiance <keyword> near the name of battalion allows the battalion to be used by other allegiance as non-allies? Or is it still considered a BoC battalion?

  15. I paint the skin first so base, shade and drybrush. Then Block in the 'gold' armour plates with brass or retributor gold. After, highlight the gold and only after this I do the blue on the armour plates.

Final step is clean up the mini.

  16. Never played fantasy but had some models back then, sold off 90% of skaven and O&G. Started AoS when KO came out and my collection blossomed at an exponential rate. Hence around 50% of the models are not painted. Generally I buy things because I like the models, and ocassionally because it's core to the list I'm trying to pull (spawns/magister/Lord Ordinator). Now that I listed what I have, I realize I should stop buying and finish painting at least one other army!.
