  1. Big fan of that model. Very Necron.

Boss of the underworlds warband is up:

They're a 'Mortisan Executioner', not just an alternate sculpt for a Soulreaper.  Although honestly it sounds pretty redundant with Soulreapers, at least conceptually.  Hopefully its aos rules will be more impressive than the reaper's, but we'll see.

The rest of the warband confirmed for this weekend's preview.

I'm hoping we eventually get a 'how to paint' video for that style of dark bone, as it's something I've been trying and failing to emulate for ages.

Oh s.... I just ordered Arkhan a few hours back...

I’m sure it’ll work out. Apart from anything I want to magnetise Arkhan for ease of transport and so the fiddly reins are out. As per the below I replaced then with a sword borrowed from Mannfred in the same set.

  3. Now that the dust has settled, and absolutely accepting a degree of subjectivity, would some kind soul do a quick run down on the best 2 of each of:

    traits

    artefacts

    spells

    legions

    endless spells

and a quick ranking of how effective units are in their assigned role. This would really help a time poor player. Thx

You can rez stalkers and even morghasts with the harvester, it's just very difficult.

It's in the battletome right above the list of lore spells.

     On the AoS app ^-^

Not on the freebie version unless I’m doing something wrong?

There was definitely a lot of discussion about whether they're a Tomb Kings replacement or not but mostly because people who have no business with Tomb Kings tried to push that lable on them. I have yet to see actual Tomb Kings players to be actually upset about Bonereapers as an army.

Another source of negativity comes from a lot of Death players wanting actual Skeletons for their bone-y Death army (aka Deathrattle) but GW unexpectedly decided to go with bone constructs instead.

By far the majority was about the goofy faces though. I understand that GW wanted to go for the characterful creepy approach but for me they aren't creepy at all. Just goofy.

I’ll take this one as I’m a Tomb Kings player.

The Tombs Kings were never going to make a comeback. Anyone who thought that was kidding themselves. If like me you loved the TKs then you keep alive their vibe by using TK models as proxies in relaxed games, using them as a whole once in a while for nostalgia fun and preserving the aesthetic in your army paint scheme for newer models.

In terms of Bonereapers, I don’t assess them through a haze of Tomb King wishful thinking. I assess them entirely on their own terms. Personally I really like them and will be investing in some straight away. Other views are entirely fine. What will be interesting is how they interface with the wider death faction. Will we see them marching to war with blocks of skeleton spearmen? Time will tell.

Although these new figures do look interesting and reasonably good, I prefer the old school undead look. Shambling hordes....

I do wonder if this range heralds the end (in a year or two) of the traditional, 'vanilla' (and therefore non IP protectable ranges) of more traditional units like black knights, grave guard, skeleton horde and zombies/zombie dogs?

I think I'll be picking up the rest of what I need for a large death rattle army by Christmas!

Time will tell. However to the casual gamer this stuff really doesn’t matter. I play with friends and relatives with a annual weekend at Warhammer World and so using models as proxies is cool.

My 80 skeleton spearmen can be whatever is required. My Tombking skeleton horsemen have been black knights for ever.

My old screaming skull catapult is about to get a new lease of life. I have 30 skeleton archers just waiting for an excuse to get shooting again.

Having said that, I’ll still be buying when these hit the shelves. I’ll just blend the new stuff with what I have already.

  7. Blimey biscuits! Would you look at these bad boys!!! 😎

    l love them ❤️❤️❤️

    Initial thoughts:

We have a whole new death faction. Essentially a Morghast army.

I have my birthday presents covered.

They look fantastic. I love the four-armed dudes in particular.

There is a real consistency emerging in the aesthetic across GW armies. I know this is part of an intellectual property strategy but who cares if the output is so good? The scythe dude is pure Necron and the four armed fellas are channeling quite a bit of Tyranid.

Lets call the Tomb Kings debate now. They are gone forever, but shall live on in undeath through these models. The lineage is very clear.

Lordy, Katakros is a great model, but more than a little intimidating for a casual and time limited painter. I love the ambition of it, but it creates a high barrier to get over in terms of being able to afford it, having the time to build it and having the skill to do a paint job that does it justice. That’s not a compliant by the way.

As already said, the key question now is how they integrate with existing death units. So for example can these be elites marshaling a skeleton horde?

    Overall - boom!!
