Well if they do come out with Chaos Duardin for real, like plastic GW kits instead FW, I may have to sell off half my other armies to pay for a new army then.  Because I already sold my Azgorh army to pay for my new armies a while back.  Circle of life.....

I expect some solid artillery if this pans out!

I already told my fiancée that every extra dollar is going towards pur honeymoon fund, and I won't buy anymore models this year... But I did clarify a few months back that its null and void only if chaos dwarves come out 😃

    Hi all,

Sooo I wanted to ask. I have been trying to find a Chaos army that I like and I stumbled over LoA- by far the chaos army I like best. I looked into their builds and models and form what I can see at least two artillery pieces are no longer produced by Forgeworld. Then I went over to the site and another two are labelled as 'out of stock' together with their infantry batallion. Is this army being phased out? Is it madness to start collecting an LoA army now? What do you all think. I am not interested in competition play to be clear and relatively new to AoS. Would you dissuade or encourage someone to start an LoA army now?

    Thanks for your input!

JP, this is a tough spot. Like you, the Chaos Dwarves were instant love when looking for an AoS army, they're amazing sculpts, and fun to play, amazing enjoyable to paint, but have real some downsides. The biggest issue is models in their range have been discontinued, and unless they're revived in AoS as a plastic range, I doubt they'll come back, this limits what army you can field as if you don't have all the models you want/need, you'll have to find them on eBay, which can be expensive and a long wait to find say a SkullCracker, the army is also sadly often mentioned, but shown no love, the last update we've received was when AoS 2nd edition came out years ago, we don't have endless spells, a FAQ,  or any warscroll updates since then (some rules need adjustment). Now on the otherhand, I'm a noncompetitive player, and have a whole lot of fun playing this army and am absolutely in love with the models, they are not a very strong army, but also aren't super weak. If you decide to buy them and put an army together you'll have an awesome army of angry evil dwarves. From a collection stand point, you can't realistically get the full range of models, but can put together a pretty fun force with a lot of the options. They are expensive, and middle of the road game play wise, they could be discontinued tomorrow or be revived down the road. If you like em and want them, I say go for it, if you're on the fence... Flip a coin. Forge World haven't communicated well their future intentions for the Legion when we've reached out in the past, which is concerning, but unsurprising.

If you're just looking for an army with awesome models, that are fun to paint and play but lack support and unit choice with a limited future, I'd say go for it. I'd much rather buy them because I want them, then wait and find out down the road that they're gone. But I also can't fault you if you decide to find another Chaos army which is better supported and has a wider range of availability.

A quick unit run down from the top of my head:

Drazoath the Ashen - sick model, disappointed with the way he plays and how much he costs.

Shar'tor - awesome sculpt, rules leave him a little lackluster and his warscroll battalion is alright but leaves you wanting more.

Daemonsmiths - good little evil dwarf casters.

Bull Centaur Turruk - Hes a beast. Favorite model in the range and hits like a truck.

Kaadi Fireborn - painting them was rough with a brush, but they're cool models with good rules.

Bull Centaurs - hit hard and are fun to paint.

Iron Sworn - cost too many points, but are good at holding objectives.

Fireglaves - usually the best battleline to take in the army as they have good shooting, and the cost is good.

Iron Daemon - good tanky chaos dwarfy thingymabob

Castellan - not to shabby for a little hero dude.

BSB - can be useful in some builds, looks cool.

Skullcracker - discontinued =( the even more chaos dwarfy smashy discombobulator

Magma Cannon - best artillery game play wise due to mortal wound output. Model is the most boring of the options. Competition lists usually take three of them to tournaments.

Dreadquake Mortar - second favorite model in the whole range, so much fun to build and paint! Sadly its expensive and the rules leave you disappointed, I still play with it in my games for the variety but its not great.

Deathshreiker Rocket Launcher - (think this one might be discontinued or out of stock?) This model looks cool, and it is alright on the table

  3. I'd say if you're on the fence, buy while you can. I had always wanted a skull cracker, so I bought one. About a month after that the mold broke. A few of the models I've got from Forgeworld were pretty new casts, so I highly doubt they're in a liquidate and end support cycle.

I agree that they've been referenced in a lot of the lore and stories, we got two of them from Warcry, making a main line Chaos Dwarf army release sometime in the future is pretty likely, at which time I'd assume Forgeworld would stop with the Legion. But if they come out with a new line, wouldn't it be sweet to augment your force with those beautiful forgeworld models? Even if you bought them, and the GW plastic Chaos Dwarves were announced the next day, you'd be able to hold onto that resin crack and sell it on EBay down the road. Its a fun army, with great models that are great to paint, and most of the people you play with have never fought.

If you like Warhammer weekly with Vince Venturella go and have a look their show where they responded to the announcement of the Old World. Pretty compelling reasons why a new game would need to have new models as that would be only viable business model. Books just don’t justify the expense of a new game.

On the other side, assuming they keep the same model scale, would be interesting to see if there’s any crossover with existing AoS lines. To have a successful launch they would need a decent amount of armies playable from the beginning but FW usually have limited production, being more a niche line of models and games. Mixing with AoS would allow for a minor number of brand new armies, still I would say for a decent start at least 4. We know Kislev is coming and therefore at least Chaos in some form, maybe Warriors of Chaos? Daemons revisited? All bets are up but with so many AoS daemons already available and pretty darn good I think there’s already a good core.

If I have to dream since I doubt AoS will ever have time to produce them, would be good to get all other Chaos Gods gors like the pestigor, etc. Obviously usable in both systems

I could also see them expanding the number of playable armies by producing generic "empire" sets, then having forgeworld produce unique units, heros and upgrade packs so that a Marienburg army has different ascetics and rules from a Averland army, but they both use ~80% of the same kits to built out.

I can sum up my feelings in four words:

    Kislev. All of them.

Honourable mention: Metal Corsairs would be cool to use as Anvilguard Black Guard or Executioners (the old metal Corsair Musician was badass).

I lucked out and found a lot of ~12 metal corsairs on EBay awhile back and won the auction for $1. The models look amazing, I was really shocked no one else bid on them. I'll work them in some how!

I want Kislev, some of the old empire engineers, and metal dark elves.

So I had to look that one up, the answer is: No, using abilities does not cost an action. Please disregard my last post. (goes of to reread the rules)

In a game where I had to keep certain members of my warband alive though turn 4, I was able to use Shadowy Recall to place a minion next to my Thrallmaster (with only 4 health) which had the Illuminate on opposite side to block my opponent from getting in to kill him. It won me the game.

I want to play Iron Golems, but I am conscious most people will be using them due to the Khorne-ish red scheme and coming in the big box. Call me a snowflake, but...

I'll be painting mine up in a blue green and copper scheme just like my chaos dwarf Army. Make it your own!

Hey guys, I just added Skaven to the AoS Reminders App. It has all clans ready to use! Skaven has been the most requested army for this tool, by far - and I can understand why after adding SO many rules to the code :)

If you haven't heard of/used AOS Reminders yet, give it a whirl - enter your army, traits, artifacts, etc, and it'll spit out a nicely printable list that you can take with you to tournaments. Very helpful for army with lots of stuff happening in each phase - like Skaven!

I need a favor from you guys - please go through and check out the rules and make sure I have them right.  I did my best to keep up with the battletome, but please, check it out. Leave any issues here on TGA, or on Github here: https://github.com/daviseford/aos-reminders/issues

Just a suggestion, you might want to consider adding the Skaven's forgeworld models in as well. Their warscrolls, as well as warscrolls for units used for other armies are listed on the forgeworld website.

  9. Has a 12 month, one time subscription option been considered? For those of us outside the UK this alternative would allow us to support the site, while avoiding foreign exchange fees and currency exchange volatility. Some card companies charge a % of the transaction or a fixed fee per foreign transaction, so being able to limit those fees might bring in some additional support from members far and wide.

    Khaos dwarf (i havent idea)

The chaos dwarves don't have any ability for free summoning units. In the old rules you could summon K'daii Fireborn using a mage casting a spell on X+ and on a 12 you'd summon two units. In the current rules you set up the K'daii at the start and they're not summonable.

Don't forget to add Legion of Azgorh to the middle tier!  If they wear stilts they could make it to the 2nd tier :D

LoA has a pretty high win percentage, but I feel its skewed by the people that put out for a forge world army really knowing what they're doing. If they gave our units different kits to loadout (conversions for 2h Centaurs, 2h iron sworn, and blunderbuses for the fireglavies along with rules) and some endless spells and a scenery piece I'd be ecstatic.

  12. As a filthy casual myself, somwtimes when I'm playing against an ultra competitive player, I stop and ask them what they would do. Most of them are willing to say well you're targeting X but Y is the real threat from my army, or something along those lines. We also come across the players that take everything so seriously and bend the rules to their advantage all the time to the point that you don't want to play them anymore. One work around I've found for that is to play in a 3 player free for all, or 2v2... Typically the other players know that they suck to play with and focus them down first! Hope you find a way to make it all work.

  13. I've been pretty happy with the K'aadi myself. They're kinda a soft target, so it's best to put them down behind one of your units and use their 3inch attach range to your advantage, where they can't hit you back. Then if needed, fly them out and reposition when needed.

  14. I typically bring Draz in my lists, its an awesome model and has some movement flexibility due to having his flying mount. For his cost, I do find him a bit squishy, and I wish that he could hold more of a presence in combat, or that they'd give us a melee mounted chaos dwarf leader. When he gets too beat up, fly him out of combat and use his spells and dispels to help in the magic phase, and when needed, position him where he can use his battle shock command ability. Best of luck!
