  1. I have a monster on an oval base.  All official photos and the build instructions suggest the model should face to a thin end of the base (like the top of an upright egg).  However,  the model comfortable fits on the base, without over hangs, while looking at the fat edge of the base.  I plan to use the monster for defensive blocking and think i could create a better area of denial with the base positioned sideways.

Objectively, i believe this is fine in the rules.  I mean there is no rule that my model cant be rotated during combat so they aren't looking an opponent in the eye.

Subjectively, I wonder whether modelling choice would be seen as planned gamesmanship.   I don't want to be seen as that guy.

    Any thoughts?

Just to note, I meant to say that MSU liberators are not good anvils, you probably need like a 10-man liberator unit, preferably with a Castellant backing them up, to be able to have any effect.

Ah, i follow.  Perhaps, i misunderstood. Thanks for the clarification.

    i dont know

Did well and isn’t so far of what we have.

That’s interesting.  It suggests the strategy might work.  As long as i implement it correctly!

My main sense is that with 10 judicators and 9 raptors, you have way too much shooting.

I know what you’re saying.  SE do a lot more damage in melee.  But, my logic was to try shield and hold my ground while picking off key targets.

Aetherwings and MSU liberators are just not good enough.

I know that sequitors,  are probably better.  But my hope was that ghb points reductions and the battalion save buff for the shielded juds would mitigate.

also aetherwing chaff can increase my unit numbers for teleport deployment, and then they can move forward fast to shield and aid raptor snipers.

These arguments lead me to think:

Evos with grandstaves Further Evos on Dracoline -the stormstike boxset list!  Now i have 10 seqs so i can ditch the Libs.  Then, i should probably just replace the other libs with more seqs,  and a Lord Arcanuum  for battleline purposes. Half the main box will give me a ballista too. I end up with something like

    Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals

    Leaders
    Lord-Arcanum on Gryph-Charger (200)
    Knight-Incantor (120)

    Battleline

    Units
    5 x Sequitors (120)
    - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields
    5 x Sequitors (120)
    - Stormsmite Mauls and Soulshields

    - 5x Grandstaves
    5 x Evocators (210)
    - 5x Grandstaves
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Evocators on Dracolines (260)
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)

    Artillery
    Celestar Ballista (110)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 130

is this closer to the mark?  Seems strong. Its a big change - almost a new army - but essentially im just replacing my all the AoS 1.0 models with their 2.0 equivalents. That doesn’t feel like value for realworld money.

With the last 250? I'd personally  normally want an aggressive melee unit to either distract your opponent from the raptors or to punish those over committing to chasing the raptors however I'm not sure retributors are gonna give you the punch you need.

Yeah, i know what you mean, i dont seem to have any aggressive units at all :(  As an army i guess they have to get in position and just hold their ground.

assuming that i keep the 2 battalions, but im prepared to go out and buy new models, do you have any recommendations for the last 580 pts?

  5. Im new to Stormcast . And would like some advice with forming a 2000pt list starting with a Thunderhead Brotherhood a Justicar Conclave i battalions for my first two drops.

    Battleline
    5 x Liberators (90)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandblades
    5 x Liberators (90)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    - 1x Grandhammers
    5 x Liberators (90)
    - Warhammer & Shield
    5 x Judicators (140)
    - Skybolt Bows
    - 1x Shockbolt Bows
    5 x Judicators (140)
    - Skybolt Bows
    - 1x Shockbolt Bows

    Units
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Aetherwings (40)
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Hurricane Crossbows (140)
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)
    3 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows (170)

    Battalions
    Thunderhead Brotherhood (150)
    Vanguard Justicar Conclave (120)

    Total: 1420 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 2
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 86

The general game plan would be:

deploy aetherwings and raptors with longstrike crossbows (5 units)

deepstrike 5 liberators supported by 5 judicators twice to initially secure objectives (4 units)

deepstrike 5 liberators supported by 3 raptors with hurricane crossbows to provide a chaff shield. (2 units)

Rush the aether wings to further shield the liberators and buff character sniping from raptors

This leaves 580 points to complete my line up.

i have the following available to include in my first 2000pts

    Leaders
    Lord-Celestant on Dracoth (200)
    - Tempestos Hammer & Thundershield
    Lord-Relictor (100)
    Knight-Incantor (120)
    Knight-Vexillor (110)
    - Pennant of the Stormbringer
    Units
    3 x Prosecutors with Celestial Hammers (90)
    5 x Retributors (190)
    3 x Castigators (70)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Dais Arcanum (30)
    Everblaze Comet (100)
    Celestian Vortex (30)

    how would you proceed?

I'm still trying to figure out why get rid of all the devoted of Sigmar leadership but not the flagellants themselves. Maybe just low demand? Maybe new plastic witch hunters/warrior priests on the way?

I wondered whether we could see a new DOS witch hunter warband for WUW: Beastgrave.

Would the Excelsior Warpriest be suitable for re release individually, or is it on some horrible mixed sprue?

Maximum is 1400 points if you find 10 32mm bases and just make every model a hero...

Are 32mm a new standard for the CGC?  I checked the  Designers Commentary 2018, which suggested 25mm, where can i find current standards?

Anyway, I guess i should focus on getting more battleline CG built before i worry too much about CGC.  I guess that, in the fullness of time,  i will run underpowered units in order to get my Serfs.

  8. Following the new FEC battletome,  what is the maximum points that can be built from the start collecting box?

Alternatively, is there a more effective build, perhaps with less points?

Ive never  seen FEC on the table so im starting with zero background knowledge.

    Thanks

  9. Tbh, my painting skills are pretty poor.   So, these look promising.

A while back, I experimented on Nurgle daemons with washes over Corax, but wasnt very happy with the results and it seemed to take ages layering the washes.

Later, with the release of Soul Wars I was more impressed  with results from Hexwraith Flame and Nighthaunt Gloom with a little dry brushing for highlights.  These paints felt much more beginner friendly.

If Contrast turns out to be the next iteration of these paints, i’d snap them up.   I dont expect them to be perfect, and but something more user-friendly would be nice.   Also, i guess the style of painting the promote will be better suited to some models than others.  Nevertheless, it’ll be fun to experiment.  I might pickup SC FEC to take some of the new range for a spin!

What I hope. Small armies of 5 to 20 models. Basic rules are AoS but with alternating activation and addition of strength and toughness. Warbands are specific to the game but flexible (so for example a warband might allow for model and weapon combinations not possible in game but you have choice around specific numbers of models etc).

This makes sense.  I had wondered how many AoS factions would get around the lack of wargear options in a single unit box (relative to Kill Team).  The solution could be Necromunda style gang boxes. Is this how Mordheim was released?

id love a couple of small, mixed faction, G alliance align warbands.  Like the big free city boxes, but cheaper.

Worst option in my mind would be expensive boxes with easy to build monopose units and compulsory terrain.  Ive bought terrain and units for exclusively kill team, but im not interested in the  kill team units with terrain boxes.

Looking forward to this release ^^

Nothing would be better some sea expansions, I'd love to see dark elves corsairs get a battle tome to go along side the DoK. Would make use of some of the other fantastic, and still quite new dark elves kits, plus a a raiding party boat as their scenery piece would open up to a seas expansions.

With all the talk of a kill team-esc skirmish mk II, i just had a thought.  What about a KT-Rogue Trader style skirmish expansion for ship to ship combat?

Im imagining a double sided board or perhaps warhammer quest style floor templates for Kharadron airships, Azyr Galleons, and DE Corsairs.   Imagine the excitment of boxed set containing mini battletomes for Cog fort automaton vs Grot Sky pirates!!!!!!

Ok maybe I misunderstood, because I ommited "GW" during translation. Right now it says "Sell without GW Online Store". Now it doesn't make any sense to me.

No you are correct.  There is something weird with the copying / pasting and formating on my Iphone.

The original post on the FLGS website doesnt appear to say anything about availability. Also, i cant see it here in tga.

However, if i paste my quote back into another iphone app i can see a second column in Korean.

TLDR:  i jumped the gun. These products will be online only with the exception if those replaced by AOS 2. For example, Thunder and Blood.

Is this an actual GW store or an FLGS?

My local non-GW put everything not in the new boxes on a discount shelf.

There are a lot of clampack heroes there. Clampacks I would think wouldn’t be selling well since a) they’re too expensive for one model and b) you can pick them up in the SC or other starter boxes.

On second thought, extend that to a few of the unit boxes listed there.

I was incorrect.  Please, disregard this rumor

And not to mention all the Easy Build boxes that came out of the original AoS set. Heck they even permeated into the Start Collecting boxes.

Haven’t we got the same number already?  2 SC and 2 NH.  I was expecting they would turn up in a Storm of Sigmar / First Strike set in a month or two.

  15. Do the new NH Endless Spells require Malign Sorcery?    If not, i may give MS a miss.

For me, army specific, thematic models are much more appealing.  Even if they turn out to be not so competitive.  Realm specific artifacts and spells add extra options, but like Free City Allegiences they may pass me by.

“The Shyish Reaper deals mortal wounds to enemies based on their Save characteristic”

“The Vault of Souls flies around dealing mortal wounds to opponents – then explodes.”

“The Mortalis Terminexus can both heal and harm”

These are some beautiful models and offer a good variety of uses in game.  Personally, i cant wait to see Vault of Souls on the field.

my TB screamed two units of Stormvermin off the table and exploded a canon with the power of her voice. That is one 80pts unit destroying about 400pts of units!

I guess i wondered whether CW and TB were being positioned as weaker heroes.  Still available, but less desirable.  (Gotta sell all those expensive new character models somehow ;))

Lord Executioner is not a buff hero, but he does Debuff enemy heroes.  I am not a huge fan of him either but he is better than people are giving him credit for.

I watched Guerilla Games play new NH vs SC on youtube last night. Perhaps, i judged LE to early.  It occurs to be that the debuff toHit may be more important than i first thought due to the Etheral save.  With other armies, i look to buff save this, but this isnt possible.

    9 hours ago, Nevar said:

Guardian of Souls is for sure an auto-include, ...  We don't exactly know what the Mortarch of Grief does but everyone is assuming she is a caster of some kind.

What are the chances that the GoS and KoSoS are box set exclusive for the forseeable future. Like the bloodsecrator or  Khorgorath in AOS 1.?  Myrmourn Banshees for dispell along with named characters would provide NH with alternative magic outwith the box.

  17. With the new boxset inbound and a shiny new battletomb around the corner, I like many others am preparing to jump on the Nighthaunt bandwagon.  At the moment, I'm trying to wrap my head around all the heroes - 11 in total, i believe!  This is how i surmise them so far

    Non-buffing heroes

    • Cairn Wraith:  3 attacks / Frightful Touch (FT) 2mw / no buffs.
    • Tomb Banshee:  1 attack / FT d3mw, / Ghostly Howl max 8mw / no buff
    • Lord Executioner:  3 attacks / +2 dam on a 6toHit / no buff

    Buffing Heroes

    • Spirit Torment:  Heal and Return  max d3 wnds /  buff: reroll 1 toHit
    • Guardian of Souls:  Wizard, Heal and Return  max d6 wnds / buff: + 1 toWnd
    • Knight of Shrouds on Foot:  buff: +1 toHit = Command Ability
    • Knight of Shrouds on Steed:  buff: +1 attack = Command Ability

Coming soon: big 3 named heroes and the Dreadblade Harrow. 11 heroes in total!

    My assessment:

It seems that, in general, NH have a lot of melee attacks, but toHit and toWnd could be better.  So, the KOS seems like an auto include.  KOSoS would be a welcome inclusion, points allowing. GoS is another auto include as the only wizard.   ST, meanwhile, seems a halfway house somewhere between the KOS and GOS.

TB offer the Ghostly Howl.  At (2D12 - target unit bravery) mw this could be fun versus hordes of grots or clanrats, but useless vs daemons.  So,  inclusion will depend on my opponent.

CW and LE both seem a little meh.  Would these points would be better spent on units elsewhere?

    List-building for Match-Play

Im guessing around 500 points in most lists for

    1. KOS
    2. GOS
    3. a centerpiece big-3 hero

    plus:

    1. TB x2  for certain opponents or
    2. KOSoS and/or ST

Not expecting to use LE nor CW regularly.

Ive never played with nor against NH.  But I have fallen for the hype.  Can NH veterans enlighten me?   Am I making any rookie mistakes in my assessment of the heroes so far?

Robot cogs? Sounds like dwarves to me. Or humans. Can’t see much else with that level of tech.

How about for destruction?  An idea:

In the absence of Sigmar and the Azyrite factions, the Cogswork Legions were constructed by a technologically advanced civilization to stem incursions during the age of chaos.  However, following the fall of their original creators, the coldly logical legions are now unable to distinguish between Chaos invasion and Order liberation.  Warbands of automatons operate around central, intellegent nodes, known as Cogsworth Princes, that seek to clear the mortal realms of Order and Chaos alike and return them to their natural state. Greenskins are considered flora and fauna, by the Cogsworth Princes. So, while other destruction forces are not allies in a traditional sense, they may be manipulated, herded and incorporated in their Cogsworth Legions.

As far as anyone is aware, Malign Sorcery is going to be a booked expansion with some models to back it up.  The impression I got was we're getting more than just endless spells in the expansion, but can't imagine it being a big book to be honest.

Rule book v2 - core rules will still be free, but rule book will contain realm based spells

Generals Handbook 2018 - points will still be available for free on Scrollbuilder

    Malign Sorcery - entirely optional

Starter v2 - new starter set containing the rule book plus Stormcast & Nighthaunt

    Thanks for the clarification!

Even though i want to buy them all, and will in time, its great to see how much free content will continue with 2.0.

Free core rules, warscrolls, malign portents fluff, the new podcast and comic.  Ive been really impressed by GW since i returned to the hobby last year. Theyve got me hooked again.  Long may it continue!
