  1. Been playing around a bit, trying to write lists (apart from the obvious too-cool-to-skip all drake list) and I've come up with this (admittedly with a lot of inspiration from some of you here :))

    Knights Excelsior stormhost
Holy Commands: Thunderbolt Volley, Unleash Thy Hatred
    Warlord battalion
Lord-Relictor - General, High Priest, Translocation, Amulet of Destiny
    Lord-Imperatant
    Yndrasta
    10x Judicators
    Hunters of the Heartlands battalion
    6x Annihilators with Meteoric Grandhammers
    6x Annihilators with Meteoric Grandhammers

Idea is to start with both Annihilator units and the Lord-Relictor in the sky, have Yndrasta run up and meet them turn 1 and leave the Judicators on backfield objectives.
Not a lot of bodies to contest objectives but with double tapping the Judicators and dropping down the Annihilators the hope is to take out the biggest threats of the enemy very early on.

    Thoughts would be appreciated :)

  2. This last year my hobby drive was very much up and down but overall I'm fairly happy with the amount I was able to finish.
In total it was 77 models, 73 Stormcast Eternals (3830 points) and 4 Primaris Space Marines (195 points), bringing my total amount of painted Stormcast up to 8680 points and my total amount of painted Primairis up to... 195 points.

Looks like I would have managed 4000 points of Stormcast if I hadn't been tempted to start the Primaris army late in the year as well.
What can I say, I just really like dudes (and dudettes) in heavy armor :)

So for 2021 the aim is to beat that number and hopefully maybe get some models on a playing table as well!

I would personally go with the first, mainly for the magic protection. I would alsoswap the command point for aetherwings :D  oor, if the future in your local meta shapes to be a lot of oppressive magic (hence, you don't get to cast the comet very often) I eliminate the comet altogether and take something else with 150 points (if they are a possible ally, 10 LRL archers, or 20 skinks, or an heraldor + aetherwings, stuff like that)

What he said (except I'm loving the 2nd one because there's more dragons)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I see the logic although I'm slightly concerned about the lack of melee output which I figured the desolators would bring. But then again your point about the magic protection is a very valid one. Picking the first one is the easy choice though as the only thing that needs paint from that on is the drakesworn, but the second one would also require the desolators to be painted :)

  4. Debating between two lists that I like the look of, both with two stardrakes:

    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500) general
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    Lord-Castellant (120)
    5x Liberators (90)
    5x Liberators (90)
    5x Liberators (90)
    Celestant-Prime (300)
    Knight-Incantor (120)
    Knight-Incantor (120)
    Everblaze Comet (100)
    Extra Command Point (50)
    2000/2000

    ..or:

    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500) general
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    Lord-Castellant (120)
    5x Liberators (90)
    5x Liberators (90)
    5x Liberators (90)
    6x Desolators (570)
    Knight-Heraldor (100)
    1980/2000

Feedback would be appreciated as I'm having a hard time deciding which one to commit to (and one has a bit more painting commitments than the other :))

  5. It looks like I will soon be the proud owner of two stardrakes due to my imminent ever advancing age checkpoint, so I'm looking into lists that allow me to field both on the table. I've come up with this, but I'd appreciate feedback from you more experienced generals to tell me if this could work or if I'm way off course here.

    Lord-Celestant on Stardrake (500) general
    Drakesworn Templar (420)
    3x5 Liberators (270)
    Lord-Castellant (120)
    Knight-Incantor (120)
    6x Desolators (570)

This would be 2000 points on the nose. I'm including the Incantor in there for some minimal protection against spells, but perhaps that's too little to matter and a Knight-Heraldor for the run-and-charge on the Desolators would be more useful.

Nah theyll bring the points back up when the scrolls are worth it.

See: Skinks. They raised the points, changed the warscroll then brought em back down

That's also true. I'm just worried about the timeframe. But maybe some point drops will hold us over for a bit.

  7. I'm a bit disappointed that they are lowering the points on Stormcasts. I would have much rather seen improvements to the warscrolls so they are worth their points. And if that was happening anytime soon they would probably not be lowering the points just to bring them up again. So we're probably stuck with the current warscrolls longer that at least I hoped.

  8. I'm hoping some of you here that have more experience with contrast paints than I do can help me with this one.

I've been using Mephiston Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet and Wild Rider Red when painting wings and now I want to get a similar color spread but with contrast paints.
Would I be correct assuming that Flesh Tearers Red, Blood Angels Red and Gryph-Hound Orange should give me a similar look?
Also, what undercoat would you recommend to get as close to the regular paint colors as possible?

Any thought to trying Quicksilver Swords and Prismatic Palisade as an alternative to Comet, to give you the 30 extra points to buy an extra CP?
Anvils lists really want that banked CP for their command ability.

I hadn't thought about it but that is an idea. However, one of the reason I like the Comet is that it can't be used against me as the Swords could for example. But it is a really good point about the CPs. I could drop an Aetherwing unit for the extra CP possibly.

Im currently painting my own kitties list. Glad you brought it up. Ever thought about adding a second caster and a comet? Something like that:
    Lord-Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline
    Knight-Heraldor
    Knight-Incantor
    Lord-Castellant
    5 x Sequitors
    5 x Sequitors
    5 x Sequitors
    6 x Evocators on Dracolines
    6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows
    3 x Aetherwings
    Everblaze Comet
    Total: 1980 / 2000

This list is not far from the list I'm working on. Just need to finish painting the second half of my Dracolines.

    Lord-Arcanum on Celestial Dracoline
    Knight-Incantor
    Knight-Incantor
    Lord-Veritant
    5 x Liberators
    5 x Liberators
    5 x Liberators
    6 x Evocators on Dracolines
    6 x Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike Crossbows
    3 x Aetherwings
    3 x Aetherwings
    Everblaze Comet
    Total:
    1980/2000

I want to try this in Anvils though, I think it could be interesting.

Thanks for your input moneybags 😂

Well, it's not like it's very expensive, and considering the time I spend reading posts here I see it as money well spent. Probably should have done it much sooner to be honest.

I like it, I think it's a strong, balanced list. My only feedback would be spells, I don't like Stormcaller or starfall when you've 2 casters and a comet. Ideally you'd be (if aggressive) casting the comet just outside an enemies unbind range, then moving an incantor up to dispell it and recasting it the nxt round. All game.

With 1 incantor I might consider a spell like Chain lightning or lightning blast for when you cast outside the dispell range (after a move or run the turn after). Or I'd take something supportive.

I reckon you could do with celestial blades on one of the incantors. Prime Electrids makes Arcane Bolt a decent spell on the Arcanum. Then Azyrite Halo or Celestial Blades on the other. Lightning Blast maybe if you want early game impact (one casts comet, the other blast r1).

In that sense, I think it will do as well as any strong, balanced SC list will do. I tend to think of tournaments as a bench mark (so 5 games, a good range of strong opponents, top tier opposing armies). I think your list is in the same 3 wins in good hands, 4 in expert hands area category - all depending on match up etc.

On paper what I made in Starcast is less balanced (hyper focused on one thing), but I've played it a bit and got it to that level too. I'm hoping to do 4 wins at a big tourney with it (I've only done 4 wins in a 20 person ish event).

My main advice is to try a strong list you like out and see what works and doesn't. Then tweak it. Play 20 good competitive games with it with minor tweaks. Alter 100 pts at a time.

It's not like there's a single win-all list we SCE players can roll with & I don't really have a lot of armies to choose from (1k Mawtribes, ... 2kNurgle - lol - and OBR is unpainted) so I've found it kind of fun to treat Stardrakes (long maligned) as a puzzle to complete, a code to crack.

This thread is where I've ended up!

Lots of good comments and feedback. Definitely need to think about this some more. I do have 3 wizards though, although the Lord Arcanum should probably be busy buffing the Evocators. And yes, I need to test this.

  13. 26 minutes ago, Turragor said:

I certainly would! my first impulse was just on buffing combat drakes

I've been playing around with the idea of this list here below, basically taking inspiration from three different lists, your Starcaller list, @PJetski Anvilstrike and then a Dracoline list as well. I might be pulling into too many different directions, but I'm thinking using the Anvil CA on the Dracolines, while the raptors and wizards provide ranged support (and 3 dispels and 2 auto dispels as well).

  15. Well, apparently repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is a sign of insanity, but I'm going to go out on a limb and try the same resolution again; to paint more than I buy. I managed to paint 51 models (3180 points of Stormcast) in 2019 but I bought quite a bit more. So in 2019 that was a complete failure, but let's try how it goes this time around.

I would also like to be able to paint more in general so I'm aiming to surpass those 2019 numbers. I did manage last year to paint a couple of models I had found very intimidating (Stardrake and Celestant Prime) and I think I even got them to a decent tabletop standard. So at least that's a painting hurdle that's been overcome. I didn't expect to feel as pleased with the fact that I got those models painted as I was, but there you go.

Another resolution is to play more. Or just play at all. I don't think I've gotten a single game in since 2nd edition and now it's time to tackle and eliminate the excuses as much as possible.

Last one is to attend my first tournament. No idea where or when, just know it's time to make the jump.

    So, TL:DR
    1. Paint more than I buy.
    2. Paint more than in 2019.
    3. Go out and play.
    4. Attend a tournament.

Let's see how it goes :)

In no way is such a small sample size representative but it looks like almost all of Chaos and Stormcast are now at a point where they could go for very few new releases and fans wouldn't riot. Especially Nurgle and Khorne!

Or those few votes indicate that most people here collect some of those faction and therefore are not picking them, as the instructions were to pick those that we were not collecting? ;)

  17. As of today I finally own 5000 points of painted models for the first time in my short Warhammer hobby history. Finished painting my Knight Questor to end up on 5000 points on the nose! Although it pales next to some of the amazing collections in this thread I must admit that I'm pretty pleased with it, especially considering that just over two years ago I had never painted a miniature in my life.

So here it is, the beginnings of my custom stormhost, The Grimsteel Knights.

I apologize for both the threadomancy and the potato quality of my camera work.
