True, but unfortunately the app appears to be a thin client front-end to a web service that's using a SHA1 certificate.

Should the back-end server have issues, or as a product designer you decide that the monetization doesn't meet expenditures then the user lists and paints can vanish along with all the "how did I paint that?"

Device backups and ability to sync the users lists to iCloud (or a 3rd party cloud provider) addresses issues of device/data loss for the user.

Offline access, and user data integrity and continuity of data for the user are key features that may be useful to consider in future versions. (Not everyone has good internet access in the location where they paint.)

I know I'd pay 1-2 pots worth of GW paint to know that my digital notebook of painting wasn't going to potentially vanish due to stuff out of my control.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

Can you let us know where you came across the SHA1 certificate? The one we use for the app and our marketing site are SHA256 as per Apple's guidelines and support for SHA1 has been removed from iOS since Spring 2017.

Paint Pot is a native iOS application written in Objective C and isn't a thin client. You can use the app to manage paints and it will sync to our web service when you next have an internet connection. Paint information is stored in CoreData and is backed up to iCloud using the normal backup procedure so should work offline. Only thing you need a connection for is to login/create account and download paints initially.

The server certificate isn't listed as trusted when heading over to the "Developer Website" It's listed as an expiring shortly, untrusted cert.

The app is also requiring creation of an account, and doesn't appear to work without a login. (And doesn't work offline...)

    :(

Thanks for your feedback and the heads up about our certificate. We've recently been doing some behind the scenes work for an upcoming update and have now fixed the certificate issue.

As for creating an account, we decided to do it this way so the user's paints and lists are synced to the server. If you lose your device, you can simply login to a new one and everything will be synced back over. It also allows us to add new paint ranges without an app update.
