  1. Could always house rule it.  Units under ten points only pay, say 2 points for a Champion or Specialist?

I know in Hinterlands, Champs and Specialists are free, but you can only have one for every three fighters total in you warband from that warscroll.  So to have two Irondrake upgrades, you'd have to take at least six of them in the warband.

I know in Hinterlands it was free to take upgrades, but only 1 for every 3 total fighters in the warband from that warscroll, but it had to be free when the renown was as low as 1pt for many units.

  2. The largest pain in the ass about the webstore is that when models are removed, so are their warscroll links.  So if I had a few goblins and/or wolf riders from older editions of gaming but haven't got into AoS yet, I can't get the warscroll for free for them anymore.  Kind of a bummer.

So yesterday I finally spent a pretty sizeable chunk of time downloading every warscroll I could think of that I might want to get field someday in my skirmish games if I am going to finally get into AoS Skirmish, especially for the older model kits like Greenskinz, Dispossessed, Free Peoples, and Ogres.

Luckily the Orc Warboss is no longer available, but still has the download link, so I nabbed it.

maybe this chaos hero can be AoS compatible... I hope so (just get rid of the pistol belt)

Prety sure that I'll use him (after getting rid of sci fi thingies) as a StD chaos wizzard

And now you know what it looks like when Nagash gets his hands on Stormcast souls and decides to make his own........

I'm thinking put a book where the Bolt Pistol holster is, remove the backpack and hide the backpack socket and the underlying armor detail on the back with a fur cloak.  Now you have a twisted Knight Incantor.

I think, the Dispossessed would only need new Warriors, Thunderers and Quarrellers that fit with the Ironbreakers, Longbeards, Ironbreakers and Hammerers and they would mostly be fine.

Definitely.  The look on the more recent kits is just right, but the Warriors and Quarrelers/Thunderers all have the old shin-less Dwarf aesthetic of the older days.

  5. To ensure I can expand my Greenskin Orruk warband someday, I think beyond Dispossessed stuff I will be adding a box of Orruk boys to my "next things to buy before GW Squats them" list.  Ironjawz brutes and boyz are well and good, but I think basic boyz still have a place among their armored brethren.  I always loved Orcs after their reboot, even if they are now hairless green gorillas with spinal lordosis.

Good news for my Skaven, though!

I wonder what this means for the like of Dispossessed.

For me, it means I need to get off my ass and buy the models I want for a Duardin warband for skirmish.  While the older Warriors and Rangers kits are not my cup of tea, the Hammerers/Longbeards, Ironbreaker/Drakes, and the Runelord and Cogmaster models are all on my "next to purchase" list.

I'm bummed to see the Goblin Warriors and Wolf Riders removed, as they were always a "one day" idea of mine as I really liked the models and thought they aged the best of the older kits.  I'm really happy to see the Shaman renamed, as it means he will stick around so I can grab one so my Skirmish Orruk boss can have a "pet" shaman.

  7. As said before, I need to get off my ass and paint instead of getting new models.  I literally need to paint the four Orruks from Shadespire, a Gore Grunta, three Stormvermin, a Grey Seer, a mercenary Ogre and a Knight Incantor and I will have four quite large, fully functional, and not to mention fully painted skirmish warbands.  And all those models are even currently primed!!

But of course here I am about to buy a box of Ironbreakers/Irondrakes, a Runelord and a pair of Runewars Rune Golems (to be allied-in but more fluffy "Kurnoth Hunters") to be the core of a new Duardin warband.  Gamer ADD at it's best......

  8. Here's the world map I just whipped up for my (mostly skirmish) games.  All credit definitely goes to the original artist- all I did was shamelessly take the worldmap for the 13th Age RPG, and change the names for the faction icons, because I think everything on it already works pretty well to encompass most of the AoS factions, as is.

I'm not really sure which realm I would place it in, yet.  Probably either Ghyran as it personally feels the most "normal" of the realms to me, or Ghur, because the "Migration routes of the Koru Behemoths" that goes around the perimeter of the map gives me images of some sort of roaming herds of minor Godbeasts the size of entire settlements.

I figure the Dragon Empire is a good example of things attaining something of a balance after the Realmgate Wars died down, where every faction has an equal opportunity to survive and fight against all the others.

-The Forces of Chaos were driven north into the Frostrange, and south into the Burning Wastes by the Stormcast after their arrival and capture of the citadel now known as First Triumph.  The Abyss is a weak spot in the material of the realm, whose bleeding energies allow daemons to exist in a near-permanent state, which is why the area is known as the Daemon Coast.

-The Stormcast and human Freeguilds hold most of the main cities that have been settled along the coast, and they regularly skirmish against the Duardin of Forge and Anvil and their cousins to the south, the Fyreslayers of the Magma Keeps, while all four factions face constant conflict with the Skaven stronghold in Hell Marsh.  Far in the West, Kharadron traders have also begun migrating into the area, establishing the two mountain-based skyports of Cloudhome and High Dock.

-The splintered factions of the Aelves hold the Queenswood, and the Wildwood, with the Dragonlords on the straits where the ocean flows in, and their Dark Kin rule in the Shadow Port.

Of course the whole area is constantly plagued by roaming bands of Orruks and Beastmen, as well as Skaven.  With all that shoreline, the Deepkin can pretty much show up anywhere, and there's a giant forest to the north called "The Dragon Wood" with a big mountain called Starport......

Here's the original version which shows the detail of the locations much better:

  9. That fantasy map editor is freaking awesome.  It's almost overwhelming the things you can do, it's incredible.  The only part I don't like is how nearly any map ends up as islands or an oceanbound continent.  So etimes I like my maps to have "uncharted territory" along one or two edges to show they are part of a greater continent.

  10. I'm thinking of just using the Skirmish rules, but for more meat and balance probably porting in the Advancement stuff and the Rules of Three from Hinterlands, as the complete reknown costs are right there in one document with Forgotten Heroes.  (Other than modelling and painting, this is my first (and with a lack of local scene, likely only) foray into AoS so I don't own the rules material for the larger game like the GHB).

  11. I would love to see the Dispossessed get some new stuff.  Rune-based constructs would make them nicely different from Fyreslayers and the tech of the Overlords.

Some Rune Golems like the four armed ones from Runewars would look awesome on the AoS battlefield.  I already use those kits as counts-as Kurnoth Hunters alongside normal Dispossessed in Skirmish, and they fit fight in.

  12. I'll throw my hat in the ring with my Stormcast warband.  My goal was to not only have no helmets (or at least bare faces) on every single model, as well as to use their expression and pose to give each one a personality.  I wish my pics hadn't washed out my washes and layering.  They are a more grounded group of Stormcast, who move among the people and prefer to show their faces to each other as a show of brotherhood and to the Free Peoples they move among to prove they are more than just living weapons.

I feel they seem a bit bright for 'The Dark side of Sigmar", but part of the reason I chose all the bare heads was to make them look like a warband of questing knights, just freakishly outsized when they are next to normal humans.  More giant, powerful humans, rather than golden automatons, which is what I always feel when looking at standard Stormcast helms.

  13. I did hear about the supposed new skirmish rumor, but I'm kinda on the hedge.  If it's something as involved as Kill Team, it's a bit too much for me to dive into, both monetarily and product-wise.  Lately I need to spread my time amongst a few games/systems I still play, and not to mention two small kiddies, and a general lack of anyone to play with if the game's not one of a couple main product lines.

I'd been keeping away due to some lackluster opinions about Skirmish, but now it's starting to look enticing now that tons of free, cool stuff has been put together by the fans.  Something I can play casually with anyone that I can rope into it, while keeping the majority of the cost in the models (lots of times I have to provide an opponent's force from my own collection, so I have several skirmish forces), is best lately.

I mean, hell, what's the real rules investment with skirmish if I'm only going to casually play right now?  The skirmish book plus the latest General's Handbook?  Then it's all  a mix of free stuff like Hinterlands, Aos 28 or Forgotten Heroes, isn't it?  (I'm not all that knowledgeable in things AoS, as far as rules material goes)

  14. Actually paint some models.  Since having kids my hobby time and effort has taken a nosedive.

I'm currently very into skirmish gaming (not necessarily with AoS skirmish, but a couple others that use GW minis) and I need to get some Skaven painted for a fledgling warband that has been "in progress" for years now, as well as some savage Orruks, Orruk archers, and a Gore Grunta for my main warband.

Also thinking of splurging on a box of Ironbreakers to be the core of a new Dwarven skirmish force.

  15. Currently working on painting up the Shadespire Orruk warband to be different weapon options for heroes in my Orruk skirmish force.  I kept Ironjaw  and Bonekutta stock, but swapped weapons on Basha and Hakka I could field Hakka as a Black Orc boss with choppa and mace, and Basha as a boss with just a single choppa.  Played around with lots of shield options, but they all looked awkward, until I remembered that Ogre Bull hands are very close to the same size, and with a little shaving on the wrist to fit, I think it works perfectly.
