  1. 2020 is going to be the year I demonstrate to myself that I can accomplish something and get this limited Chaos Undivided army built and painted in a slow-grow way, in 100% complete stages before anything gets added. I will not grow my shame pile. I will not.

    I might a little bit.

Is that two new collecting boxes or one new and one old.  Also I don't suppose we could use the warcry warbands as stand ins for marauders under the official rules, but if our play group doesn't mind....hmmm

Two new SC boxes is the current intent.

If someone got grumpy at you using Cultist models instead of Marauders I would recommend you not playing with that person again, because that person is a d-o-u-c-h-e canoe.

  3. I don't mean to imply that I know better than GW head honchos, because I cannot, obviously. And clearly what they have been doing is working for them- y'know rising stock prices, record profit, etc. So... I can imagine they wouldn't be super receptive to being told what they should or shouldn't do.

That said, I just can't help but wonder if things would be different if someone, anyone was given central control of the design team. If instead of, "y'know what guys, just run wild", we had, "ok team, the Lizardmen range needs an update so I want to see everyone's maddest ideas on what an Aztec dinosaur is". I get the impression that the miniature designers have free reign, regardless of what the needs of the actual miniature ranges might be. And that would be grand if they weren't the premium plastic miniature company.

Not 100% sure where I started this post or where I ended it.  Basically GW needs to update their effin Skaven line.

Can't remember if this has been answered before, but if you pop jezzails out of a gnawhole, does that count as a move? As in, they won't get their reroll to hit.

Off the top of my head, I would say it doesn't affect their reroll to hit. The teleport counts as their move, so they can't go any further, but they don't count as having moved, if that makes sense.

You were brave to fully assemble all models. Just for painting  ease I didn’t assemble knights cloaks and shields, Chaos lord I didn’t mount to Karkadrak and 4 warriors shield i didn’t put on.

Brave, or foolish? 😅 I can at least say that Mr. Lord is not properly attached to his angry lizard.

  6. My spikey lads are ready for painting. Happily surprised by how many heads there are on the sprue too, for some reason I thought there were only 17, but now with 10 spare heads (and the heads fitting with the old models and keeping them in pretty much the same scale apparently) I don't feel so bad about getting one of the Warrior boxes. One more SC! box and I can have two units of 20 Warriors, all with different heads.

So what happens when you have an army like Mawtribes with maybe 5 units in total and the other player has like 10 units. Is it gonna be you-go-I-go 5 times and then the other player gets to make 5 moves in a row? Warcry kind of suffers from this in some situations.

The arguement that "it is boring to sit and watch for 2 turns in a row" just doesn't apply to my games. I'm excited even when it is my opponent's turn. Is he failing his cast? Can I unbind it? Is he whiffing his shooting? In the combat phase we alternate activations, so it isn't just taking models off the table.

Honestly this discussion is pointless and the thread should be locked. We're beating a dead horse by now.

To address your first point: yes, exactly. Even if I have fewer units than you and I'm waiting while you move the rest of your guys, I'm still not waiting to do something for as long as I am in the current turn structure.

To address your second point: I'm glad you personally are super engaged by watching someone else roll dice, but the more interactive something is, the better (imo). You even hit on exactly this point by mentioning the combat phase, easily the best part of the game. Take that idea and then apply it to every other phase of the game, and I posit that we will be left with a better game.

  8. I get the impression from reading a lot of the pro double turn posts here that there's a bit of a straw man being set up. Maybe I'm missing it in some of the anti posts (I'm only skimming a lot of posts so sorry if this is the case) but for my part at least, I don't feel like a return to 40k's turn structure is being advocated, and yet that is what is being used to argue for a double turn. What does come up a lot is a desire to move to alternating activations instead. This would deal with the two main problems I feel people have with double turns- it would limit damage output without response, and it would keep both players involved. But I don't want to go back to simple "I go, you go".

WRT things like zoning, perhaps people are forgetting that having to play for objectives plus the rise of mechanics which allow for fighting twice or charging twice or extra moves means there's really only so much you can do to screen and zone without just giving up the game. In a recent tournament match against Ironjawz, in spite of the best, most cautious screening I could do without just hanging back in my own corner of the table (away from the objectives and out of range to cause any damage of my own), two Mawkrushas got a double turn and just rofflestomped their way through half my army, ensuring that by the end of it, I could only shrug and try and make his victory as phyrric as possible. Not the first time a double turn in rounds 1-2 has left me with zero chance of winning, and undoubtedly not the last either.

Right? I mean as others have said, I guess they felt like it needed a points change because no-one uses the Engineer now.. but at that point I would rather just discontinue the Engineer and use the Bombardier warscroll as the only 'engineer' next to the AW, especially when they only sell old sculpts of the Engineers.

Or you assume what I have: They don't sell the Bombardier (will they ever at this point?) but do sell the Engineers. You can probably work out the reasoning there.

Why not just take the Engineer down to 90, like, say the Hag Queen, who is a much more survivable and valuable character? Instead the Bombardier is now 20 more points than a Slaughter Queen! I can only assume someone in the rules department came in hungover, or high, or just mashed the keypad of a calculator at random.

  10. The double turn is boring. Regardless of whether playing around it is a question of skill or not, one of you is going to stand around for ages, by and large only making saves or taking your models off. I don't like getting it, I don't like my opponent getting it. In all my games, nobody who has had the double turn go against them has won- not only do they lose, but they stand around for ages waiting for it into the bargain.

Move to alternating activation please. I hate the double turn.
