  1. So during my stuck-at-home time I've decided to focus on my Seraphon.  My entire army is almost completely painted except for 6 models.  Those will be painted of course, however the majority of my hobby time is going to be updating the paint scheme on the rest of the models.

I've learned a lot since I started my Seraphon nearly 5 years ago.  They were my first AoS army and I've definitely improved since them.  I'm painting them up as Coalesced and so I want to have brighter colors that stand out from 3 feet away.  Here's an example of of old vs. new.

  2. Here's an interesting alternative to the forced command trait issue that they've tried in the new Seraphon book.

So each of the Constellations has the typical Battle Trait and required Artefact and Command Trait.  The Command Trait, however is only for a specific type of General.

For example, the Fangs of Sotek Constellation has a Command Trait that has to be taken by a SAURUS General.  You do not have to field a SAURUS General, however.   So if you have a SLANN or SKINK General they can take one of their own keyword specific Command Traits.

    Dracothian's Tail - SLANN General
Fangs of Sotek - SAURUS General
    Koatl's Claw - SAURUS General
Thunder Lizard - THUNDER LIZARD General on a MONSTER mount

Now I don't know if taking a different type of General than what is referenced in the Command Trait for each Constellation is some kind of crippling handicap.  The book arrived just before quarantine started and I haven't played any games with it yet.  I do like that you have options! 🦖

Right, apologies for yesterday’s whiney moment, I have checked myself before I wrecked myself and for the moment, at least, have got myself back on an even keel.

Decided to start things off with some long overdue and units, so an Ad Mech Kill Team & the Godsworn Hunt just to, hopefully, get myself into the groove.

then if that gets too fiddly I’ve also primed a load of random stuff like sone Azyrite ruins, objective markers, and endless spells for when I need to mix things up and just slap some paint down.

    LET’S DO THIS!

For what its worth, the Godsworn Hunt are a joy to paint.  I love them even though I don't play much Underworlds anymore.  I mostly use them as allies for my Beasts of Chaos.  They were the starting off point for the color scheme of my Untamed Beasts (and any future S2D models.)

Been working on a couple of models for my friends Ogors

Unfortunately I can't do the bases at the moment so I'm going to have to leave them for now

My son is finally painting up the dreadnaught he got for Christmas so we will be playing some 40k. I'm also thinking of intorducing him to WarCry

I love the natural tones on the Thundertusk, as opposed to the typical white or ice blue I always see. Also, a lilac giant!  Awesome!

PS: Bonus points for shading the nips.  Very important step.  I think Vince Venturella has a video about that somewhere. 😉

  5. So speaking of Stegageddon, I'm a huge fan of the big dinos as well.  However I have a question.  I know Thunderlizard makes Stegadons into battleline, but can someone point me to the page that removes the restriction on the number of Behemoths?  Everyone keeps saying its in there but I just can't find it.

    Thanks! 🦖

The core rule mechanics make it immune to rend.

    Bastilidon has a 1+ save.

    I roll a 1, I fail, because it's an unmodified 1.

     Otherwise, I roll a 2-6.
Since it's passed the unmodified check we look at the modified version of the save.

Apply infinite rend, regardless of the result, the modifiers core rule kicks in. And makes that a modified 1.

Since it's modified, we check against the save characteristic, of 1+, so we pass.

So just to clarify, are you saying that the lowest possible value on a die roll, regardless of modifiers, is 1?

    Examples:

    Roll 2 and Rend -1 =1

    Roll 2 and Rend -2 = 1

    Roll 2 and Rend -3 = 1

The modified dice roll is then compared to the bastiladon's save which is still 1+ and therefore it passes.

Am I getting that right? If so, I think I've been playing save rolls wrong this whoooooole time!

  7. Finally.  The cycle is complete.  😔

All the books will be updated for AoS 2!  I'm not certain but this might be the first time in 30 years that GW will have one of games systems fully updated!

I'm really looking forward to this!  I love my dinosaurs and have looked forward to the day when we'd get updated rules.  My only hope is that our big dinos get updated rules to reflect the fact that you're fighting a gigantic, freakin' dinosaur!  Let me have sweet Jurassic Park moments;  Stegadons plowing through troops like a living battering ram, Bastiladons smashing Chaos warriors aside with their tails, Carnosaurs eating lawyers, splendid!

Also, giant magical aztec pyramid thingie...pretty sweet!  Definitely gonna pick one up, paint it, and loan it to my FLGS since it will make excellent terrain for AoS in general!

So the Seraphon are turning into the "Coalesced", huh?  Hmmm....sounds like they are gonna start living in the realms themselves if I had to guess.  They've been mentioned several times in lore and Black Library novels as living amongst the Free People in Star Temples or something like that.  I hope they begin establishing temple cities and the giant magical aztec pyramid thingie seems to suggest this.

Lastly, since it seems its the unwritten law that I have to complain about something...this free dino-flavored (ew) ice cream I have is ok I guess, but its just too darn cold!

  8. Apologies if this has been discussed earlier but I've been pondering our Battlemage on his Griffon.

I have a mostly Freeguild focused Hallowheart army and I've found the General on Griffon to be very good.  So now I'm thinking how good TWO griffons would be!  But am I misguided?

The Griffon herself seems pretty choppy but the 5+ save kinda sucks.  The Battlemage's spell is also handy on such a mobile platform.  The mobility of the Griffon doesn't play well with the Hallowheart Battalion but a trio of Battlemages on foot are not too expensive.

I've rarely ever heard of people using him so what does everyone think him?

PS: I'm not interested in making my army ultra-competitive.  I know the Sorceress on her Dragon is prolly better but Dark Aelves are evil and smelly!

  9. Freeguild general: A - Always useful though he does lend the army towards static play which can be a problem if you need to snag objectives.

General on griffon: A+ - I love my General on Griffon and he always does serious damage to whatever he goes after.

    Hurricanum: N/A

Luminark: B - A handy support piece but not nearly the damage dealer it was.

Battlemage: B+ - Squishy but versatile and interesting.  Hallowheart has lots of fun spells for these guys!

Battlemage on griffon: N/A - I've never used it but I am quite curious about how it performs in Hallowheart.  ;)

Freeguild guard: B - A decently tough anvil when they have swords and mystic shield.  I enjoy casting Warding Brand on them and watching the explode when my opponent kills them.

Greatswords: B+ - They always do more than I expect when they get a chance to hit.  They are rather squishy and slow though.

    Freeguild handgunners: N/A

Freeguild crossbowmen: C+ - The extra range and shots are nice for harassing but I don't expect them to be a major threat.

Demigryph knights: A+ - Really hard hitting

    Outriders: N/A

    Pistoliers: N/A

    Flagellants: N/A

This is fundamentally the issue with GW not taking balance seriously. Most people aren’t tournament-level competitive players... but I haven’t met *anyone* that actually likes losing every game.

Hi!  I'm Kamose.  I don't mind losing; I just enjoy the chance to play with my toys.  To be fair though, I haven't lost EVERY game I've ever played.  In a dice game like Warhammer where I have the freedom to pick my opponent I'd have to be a ****** or the unluckiest person in history to lose EVERY game!  :D

    3 hours ago, JackStreicher said:

First off: It's not about competetive play. The comp. scene deals rather well with imbalanced.

I'm gonna assume you mean tournament play since if you really don't care about being competitive then you, almost by definition, don't care if you lose.

    3 hours ago, JackStreicher said:

The issue is that the "balancing" or let's say "relative powerlevel" of armies is sometimes worlds apart which ruins CASUAL games.

I would say that if the imbalance between units is ruining casual games then the responsibility for adjusting your gaming experience falls on the players.  GW makes a game that can't satisfy everyone "out of the box".  Its not possible so don't expect it.

At a tournament there are certain expectations and balancing factors that are set and controlled by the tournament organizers.  The players generally have little say in the matter.  They have to accept what's given and decide whether or not to attend.

In a casual game, however, the only people who can adjust their experience and expectations are the players.  If two people are playing casual games and one continues to curb stomp the other, then its the responsibility of the players to adjust their game so that it is enjoyable for both of them.  If one person refuses to change how they play because they might lose, then that person is selfish and rude.  That person needs to learn some empathy.  No different than the kid who plays too rough on the playground and refuses to stop when asked.

Its unfortunate that GW backed off on this idea, but when AoS was released there was an explicit expectation that players would discuss and work together to "balance" their own game and make sure both players have fun.  Even with points, FAQs, balance adjustments, Errata, and the General's Handbook those conversations are still just as important as ever.

Also pick-up games with strangers kinda suck.  If that's the only way you can ever play AoS...I'm sorry.  :(

Do Untamed Beasts allies add much to the army? I know BoC get pre-game movement from Ungor Raiders already, but I still want to try and get them to work if only for fun.

I've actually included the Untamed Beast and a Darkoath hero or two entirely for fluff reasons.

You see, my Beasts army is actually the various livestock found around Chaos Acres. The Darkoath family (mommy and daddy Darkoath, brothers Billy, Timmy, and Otto, little sister Susie, and their dog Oreo) raise herds of gors, ungors, razorgors, and raptoryxs for the farmer's markets of CHAOS!!!💀💀💀

They've even started a Gor rental service. Let's say the land you've conquered for Khorne has pesky weeds, shrubs, aelves, free people, whatever. They'll rent you a brayherd to come out and g-'raze' (😉) that all right into the ground for ya!

    😀

    😀

    I'll go now.

  12. I was very excited to see the Seraphon lore in the Tome of Champions Warcry book. They mentioned the Old Ones and Great Plan for starters.

I don't get the feeling that the Old Ones will make an appearance. I also don't want to see a continuation of the Great Plan but rather an evolution of it.

I like the notion of leylines and astral manipulation powering their magic. From their celestial vantage point, the Slann could be manipulating magical leylines within realms and between realms, perhaps controlling the movement and positioning of the 8 realms themselves in the fight against Chaos.  That could make for a narrative event on the scale of the Necroquake!

  13. I know she's 40k and not AoS, but I had to go with Severina Raine. But then I'm biased since I did just paint her up to be my wife's avatar in the game. 😊

If I had to pick an AoS model I would pick the Rockgut Troggoths. They are gorgeous sculpts that are practically oozing character and story.  I love the little birds and rocks-as-hats and the expression one has looking at a grot he's holding up. You can almost hear the tiny,  rusty gears turning and you can sense the inevitable moment when those gears will lock up. Then the Troggoths, curiosity unsatisfied will gulp down that sad, little grot. It's great! 😁

  14. I just wanted to take a moment to speak to all the Nighthaunt players here on TGA and in the world generally.  I have never played Nighthaunt myself however I have recently assembled a small Nighthaunt force for the club at my school.  Its a small thing, about 500pts.  Just enough for the students to play some small games.

I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm sorry.  We're sorry.  We had no idea.  We didn't understand your suffering and hadn't appreciated your strength.  All Nighthaunt players have our deepest sympathies for the absolute, unadulterated hell that is assembling Spirit Hosts.

    'hugs'

PS:  After going through that, I think I understand  what being punished by Nagash must be like.

  15. Good morning, beasties!  So I've playing around with my BoC a lot lately and trying to figure out where to expand the army, particularly Heroes.  I'm not focused on being competitive but I enjoy hordes of infantry and really like the ambushing and summoning mechanics in our army.  I usually play smaller games (1000-1500pts) and my typical list is something like the following:

    1 Beastlord

    2 Bray-Shamans

    20 Ungor Raiders

    20 Bestigors

    20-30 Gors

A smattering of Chariots or Razorgors

    Desolating Brayherd Battalion

So with that in mind, what Brayherd Heroes do people usually bring?  Do I have enough?  Beastlord for General or Bray-Shaman? Any suggestions for Command Traits?

Are multiple Beastlords worth it?  I've been running him with Oracle of the Dark Tongue and the Banshee Blade because I enjoy the combo potential (and he did kill 400pts of Bloodbound by himself that one time! 👍).  Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate Beastlord models?  I have the GW one and he's nice enough but my opponents keep confusing him for a particularly short and scrawny Gor.

How many Bray-Shamans is too many?  I've found that having two works well for their movement buff and I'd like more of that please!  I usually have one Bray-Shaman with the Knowing Eye.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for useful artifacts?

However, their magic seems really hit-or-miss.  Their spells are quite short-ranged and they never survive past turn 2-3 unless they are so far back they can't do anything useful.  I do enjoy all of our Endless Spells and would like a bit more consistency casting those.

Thanks for the ideas and inspiration!

PS:  I'd like to keep it focused on Brayherd.  The Warherd and Thunderscorn models just don't it for me. 🐮
