Noob question of our battle tactics: in a Vyrkos list with no skeletons, how do I complete the "Endless Nightmare" tactic?
It doesn't have to be skeletons. You can do it with Zombies or Grave Guard. If you have none of these then pick a different battle tactic.
-
I think the new battle tactics and missions are good for Nighthaunt and I agree that MSU is the way to go.
Some of the battle tactics are just how you play anyway, like the retreat and charge one.
-
Nagash is much harder to kill these days but he's not doing much damage in combat. You'll also struggle with battle tactics with that list.
-
As suspected, I never got to use the ability as the situation it would have been used in never occurred. It's the problem with most of their abilities.
In the rare event it gets used, the consensus was that the monster doesn't fight twice, but you get to pick a second unit to activate.
-
I'm running an Avengorii list tomorrow. I'll try it and see what my opponent thinks.
-
It's the same as the Vyrkos battle trait. It means the monster fights straight away and doesn't have to wait for it's activation. The core rule of not being able to fight twice will still apply.
Personally I think this rampage is too situational to ever be better to use over the other ones.

So question for the folks that maybe have a few games under their belt:
How do you find the strength of the healing and recycling of units? All of my previous experience in Sigmar is elite punchy armies that don't heal or anything like Soulblights reliance on cheap hordes that can stand back up. Does the multiple ways of healing hold up to some of the nasty damage that exists or should I expect to get wiped and bring back half strength units? How big a deal is battle shock for things like wolves, zombies, and skelly boys?
For reference, I am painting up a Vyrkos army so lots of dire wolves, zombies, and a 30 block of deathrattle skeletons, any tips for keeping the units from being wiped out? Plan is to use wolves to pin, fell bats to screen, skellys to hold center objectives, zombies midfield to eat charges and deal mortals back. Not sure my list will do much damage though, so I guess is that actually a viable way to win some games? In theory the recycling within 3" will be great but in my only game so far I failed 6 out of 8 rolls so couldn't try it out. I've got another game on Monday so hopefully will do better.

I'm trying a Legion of Night list out on Wednesday against OBR. The list also includes a Vengorian Lord and an unridden Zombie Dragon to see how that works out.

I tried that but because they can heal every hero phase, you don't end up killing them until too late in the game.

Only had two games but so far so good. Getting a free redeploy every round is great because it's a command ability you use a lot. I keep him out of big combats but in the lst game he finished with ten wounds due to me tagging him on the end of combats against Gor and Ungor. Lingering spirit and the cloak aid his endurance.
He's also good for the new battle tactics being a GC which the mounted version isn't.
My favourite thing in the list though is the combo of the Tomb Banshee forcing my opponent to use two CPs and then rolling a 5+ with Olynder.

I've played a couple of games with the new season and I'm liking it with my Nighthaunt. The points changes and rules for Gallet champs have changed my list a bit. I've dropped Kurdoss and in his place am using a Knight of Shrouds on foot and a Tomb Banshee. Both have been good so far.
This is the list I'm trying at the moment.

I suspect the Spirit Hosts are there to protect the Torment and as a cheap third battleline option. I've run a Nagash list myself and you don't get a lot of points for the rest of your army.
I still prefer non-Nagash lists.

i haven't used a VLOZD in a list for ages. It always seems to disappoint on the table.
-
They make a normal move, not a retreat so yes.

I'm not sure what's in that box, but for non-unique heroes I'd go with a Spirit Torment, Guardian of Souls and a Krulghast Cruciator.

Going first and getting shield up is important, but finest hour only helps in one turn. My last game, I didn't use finest hour at the correct time and it cost me.

I accidentally bought Nagash as well over Christmas. I've only ever used him with Nighthaunt. I preferred him in the previous book when he could cash reaping scythe on himself and become a combat monster. He does get to use spectral tether now which is fun.
With most NH units being summonable he's great for bringing back models and boosting ward saves. Your list is similar to mine.
The main problem I find is that you only have the BGR as a fighting unit so you end up having to over-commit Nagash to target your opponent's key models. He's just not survivable enough to last in combat or against strong shooting.
-
I agree, with his current warscroll and not being able to use allegiance abilities he's 150 points overpriced.

Hi guys, I have a question: can Nagash return an immortis or stalker with his ability?, for example, I lose an stalker, try to ress with one of his ability (3 wound or less) because stalkers have 4, ofc I ress 0, and... with the supreme lord of the undead I get 0+1?
No. That would be like going into a store with a buy one get one free offer and walking out with free one without buying anything.
The ability has to be able to work in the first place before you can apply the bonus.

Got a game tomorrow night, the first using NH in the new season. I'm really struggling to decide on a grand strategy. What are people's thoughts? Which ones do people feel are the easiest for us?
I like Dismantle the Brave as some armies have the same bravery for every unit. So you can achieve it by killing your opponents weakest unit.

Yes. It's the same rule Nighthaunt have now. Will also work if you summon a unit.
-
Unlike other CA's it doesn't reference needing to be within a certain distance of a hero. However the core rules say that that CA's need to be issued so I think there would need to be a hero on the board to do this. It says you have to pick a friendly model to issue it which would have to be a hero or totem as the unit champion would have been destroyed with the unit.

The new Thondia book has updated Anvil of Apotheosis rules. Will we be using those instead of the ones from the 2020 GHB?
-
If spectral touch becomes an allegiance ability then they might do mortals on a 6 so a unit of 15 would average 5 mortals. Good for deepstriking and killing a small hero or as a screen with unleash hell.

You can do it with Vyrkos using the heroic action. Just need to roll a 3+ if the unit you did invocation on is near a gravesite.
