With a lot being said why they are quite a niche unit, i think stormcast doesnt need a hammer battleline right now, and thats what they are trying to be. Our new battletome has several heavy dmg hammer units that do the job very well.

In the old 2.0 FAQ d3 dmg counted as higher than 1 in that regard.

So far i had great succes with lists that included one ranged hammer (6 Longstrikes/10-15 Judis) and one melee hammer (4Fulminators/10-15Paladins)
12 hours ago, Colgado said:I have an event coming up and with no chance of the new units dropping in time I was thinking of bringing a shoot cast list. How does this look?
Celestial Warbringers
Ordinator
Relictor
2x5 Vindictors
1x5 Sequitors
4x Ballista
1x6 Longstrike Raptors
And then either an Incantor and more Sequitors (and make the Vindictors x10), or a Knight Judicator and Aetherwings for more pew pew and gryph shenanigans.
I'm still lost on battalions but it is a ton of long range shooting. Definitely not a 5-0 list but hoping it can win a few. Thoughts or tweaks?
I think skipping melee hammer will make your list lack in total damage output, match ups against high woundcount armies will be difficult.

On the Shockboltbow i agree, i would always take all regular bows.
With Starsoulmaces it is not so easy to say i think. On Retributors they make only sense with Unleash thy hate, but Retributors are only played as 5man squads...
On a 10-15 man Protectors unit, they can boost dmg, especially with uth, but there is always the danger of getting charged in the flanks and not being able to attack. I think it depends on playstyle

In general i like the tomes, many rules fit the fluff. Dirty Tricks for Kruelboyz look fun to play. Subaligiances are not restrictive anymore.
As mentioned before, faction Battletactics and grand strategies could cause problems for competitive games.
Internal balance in the Stormcast battletome is still off (hello dragons) , but hopefully gets better with the next changes in points.

Thanks, couldn't see that on my phonescreen in the videos.
So we could even play 9 Annihilators in Knights Excelsior! Overkill but fun.

6 Annihilators with Grandhammers using Unleash Thy Hatred will do an average of ~17 wounds to a 2+/5+ in one turn
If you can give them +1 hit their damage goes over 20
Do they have 2'' range? Otherwise i think we can get only 4 in combat, and 2 standing in second row for coherency

Thinking about this myself. I was excepting Annihilators to jump up to units if 5 with the new tome, much like the first starter box for Age of Sigmar, but now it seems as if they’re going to stay at 3, which is a bummer.
In regards to your question, from what I’ve seen of the internets the cost between the two units is similar, and getting two more bodies to hold an objective is an important factor I think. Maybe the great hammer option is better in that it’s a hard hitting fire-and-forget unit compared to the shield option where as a hold-and-capture option the Retributors higher number of models is better.
if you look just at damage in combat, Retributors are a little better (about 15-16 wounds vs 13-14 wounds against a 4+ base save). But if you consinder the drop in and charge damage you can add at least about 4-5 dmg for annihilators.
Also the only reliable way to get Rets into combat is via translocation prayer (if it really doenst get FAQed), Annihilators with their 7 inch scions and charge rerolls are a lot easier to use.
So in summary i think that Rets are still too expensive, and i want to convert some into Annihilators with grand weapons.

I'm actually pretty hyped on Raptors with Hurricane Crossbows now.
I think they get outclassed by xbowjudicators with their new 16'' range (or was it even 18?). More Models, Wound and Damage.
-
Did anyone do the math on the Tempest Lords skill? reroll one dice of a charge, how relialbe makes this 9 inch Charge?
-
Well, in the bigger picture i am happy with the battletome, sure some units are useless but at 76 warscrolls i didnt expect every unit to be viable in competive play.
Dragon Army looks really strong.
What is our best shooting unit now?
15 Judicators for 600p? 570p? Doubletapped they should delete most threats. Noticed that the skyboltbow doesn't do mortals on 6s, only the regulars.
6 Raptors for 480? Still strong but 12 w seems squishy.
Castigators still just some point filling unit.
Vigilors, not convinced by this hybrid unit.
Ballistas with Lord Ordinator, less dmg than judis and raptors but more resilent.
On the melee sight, paladins could be viable. Protectors really cool as @PJetski mentioned. Still wondering if they will faq teleport prayer.
-
Knight Judicator does more dmg than a ballista, and brings some nice screen with him. But the leaked Raptors warscroll with 2/3+/2+/-2/2 looks still superior. Got to wait for points ofc.
Chariot is suprisingly sturdy, so you can charge it in and can activate squishier units first in combat.

In practice games it’s 7/9 wins 🤣it is quite one sided but that may be a good idea just to get the stave in there
How do play this list? Doesnt it lack some hammer unit? Or do the monsters do enough damage?
My List i will try tomorrow:

What do you generally think about LoA vs Daemonprince?

So there is no way to play Rotbringers competitively? Blightkings seem especially weak, because they can't combine their 6s to hit male D6 hits with the blades of putrification spell.
I mostly deal damage via the commandtrait "one last gift", everything else is just peanuts...
In my experience BKs are only usefull with gutrot spume via deep strike. So far I have good results with MSU Plaguebearers and Drones.

Tail attack also does wonders against full ko ships and other garrisons

I guess Mr. Prime will get a 4+ ward, just like Miss Y.
I am curious about 200p Judicators and what buffs they get, maybe a block of 15 becomes the new shootcast.

On the Interaction between Cycle of the Storm and Blaze of Glory:
Why not even combine it with a Hallowed Knights General?😅
Honestly, i dont think this is how it is supposed to work. In the Stormcast FAQ is written that Cycle of the Storm can stop a model from beeing slain. With the models right now this combo might not be overwhelmingly powerful, but just imagine some new multiwound drake with thunderarmor keyword...
-
My Stormcast are happy, looking forward to next battletome. Vindictors, Sequitors, Liberators seem all reasonable for their price tag.
My Nurgles have mixed feelings, Blightkings without rend battalion and 25p more could be finally outclassed by a full demon build.
My Gloomspites. I have only squigs, and they don't care.
-
I just want mount traits for Squigs!

I can recommend a Lord Castelant for his +1 save buff, which is very usefull for dracoths and the Stardrake too.
The command abilty of the LCoSD is not that strong as it effects mounts only. The skybolt bow of the Drakesworn Templar is a better buff option, as it buffs all attacks of your dracoth cavalry( also their shooting attack!)
-
NewCast dont look different to oldcast imho, spearguys a little lighter, the chunky boys a like more chunky... So what? Paladins look more buff than Liberators too.

Hi all,
a couple questions regarding the Wurmspat:
From the warscroll: "Unique. These units must be taken as a set for a total of 180 points. Although taken as a set, each is a separate unit"
Does this mean, that...
- I can use the 2 Putrid Bilghtkings "The Wurmspat" for Gutrot Spume´s outflank ability? Because the warscroll doesn´t mention you have to deplay the wurmspat together with Fecula.
- I can include the Wurmspat (but not Fecula) into a Blightcyst battalion?
Thanks!
I had to check immediately, but got disappointed. The word blightkings is written in small letters in Spume's Warscroll aswell as in the Blightcyst battalion. This means that they require the Blightkings warscroll. If BLIGHTKINGS would be written in bold letters you could have taken them.
Sorry, i would really like that.

Just imagine a Zylinder that goes from the edge of the base up high to the headheight of the model and measure from the closest point to the other model, thats how my group plays it, how a big event played it and how basically anyone i know or have known played it.

belakor's Demon Resurrection ability
The wording has been changed from the keyword to the warscroll of each lesser daemon.
You can no longer revive the Seeker of CherryOt, Skull Cannon, Drone, etc.
Well, a small buff is that it is no longer a commandability, it just triggers every battleshock phase.
The battalions should still work, but i think they are very boring. They would be interesting if they would allow a mix of units from different gods.
If i want to play 7 units of Plaguebearers + nurgle heroes i rather play nurgle allegiance to get that nice - 1 rend ignore. Same goes for the other gods allegiances as well.
Do i understand it right he has to be near 4 different battlelines to get reroll hits?

thx for the report @IRRecio
at least mortal units seem to have good durability.
After watching/reading some reviews i like most parts of the battletome, but i think most units are overcosted, i guess GW hasnt considered that we lost very powerful munificent wanderers allegiance from Wrath of the Everchosen.(worsen melee profiles -1 Rend, MWs on 1s to hit for enemies - general trait)
For Example Plaguebearers:
So yay... 2 wound Plaguebearers, but they've gone from an easy achievable 4+ save and ignoring 1 Rend to a 6+ save. But +40points .
