Just bought into Warcry today. Gonna play NH because I had the Chainrasps from Nightvault, my friends are willing to let me use the Briar Queen as a Dreadwarden, and all I had to do to build a full warband was buy one box of Spirit hosts. SO my super budget list of NH is as follows. . .

    Dreadwarden

    5X Chainrasp

    2X Spirit Hosts

And thats it. I plan to eventually buy a box of Grimghast and some Glavewraiths. My question is; am I gonna have fun with this list? Does NH just not function without Grimghasts or is this actually a relatively efficient list?

One less chainrasp and have an Extoller instead. Re summoning is just crazy good.

I want to like LoN but I just can’t really figure out how to use it.

Most battleplans don’t seem to really make use of “The Bait” rule as the opponent has no incentive to want or need to go into your territory, and generally most battleplans have objectives in the middle.

Therefore when ambushing it will be difficult to get a charge as most of the fighting will be i the center of the map (more often than not, exceptions do exist) and the units arriving will not have any buffs and will not be able to be buffed until your next hero phase.

The restrictive nature of wholly within 6” of a board edge and more than 9” from an enemy, plus the typical objective placement, plus nobody ever really needing to go into your territory the majority of the time always leaves me feeling like I would be better off playing LoS of GHoN for the more universally beneficial battle traits.

I do, however, have at least 2 LoN lists I hope to practice with but they seem better off just charging turn 1 up the board than ambushing or anything.

I also have the same problem with summoning from the grave.

When playing battleplans where your territory is half the map... indeed, the opponent could choose not to go in your territory. But it's quite easy to plop 20+ models within 6" of a center line objective, and force your opponent to deal with your horde of 5+ (or 4+ if no rend) skeletons that get multiple d3 models back in each of your hero phases. I feel that The Bait makes me want to play a few more Deathrattle than what I'd usually bring, hence why my list has 40-40-30 deathrattle models.

Outflanking dogs or vargheists (or morghast harbingers that charge 3d6!) is useful when playing some battleplans, since they sometimes reward you with more objective points if you can claim the backfield objective. Just plopping down a unit in the backfield means that the opponent has to deal with it, or else.

  3. What do you guys think of this list?

    Legion of Night

VLoZD, Shield, Lance (Artefact: Ethereal Armor), Trait: Swift Form, Vile Transference

    Necromancer, Overwhelming Dread

    Vampire Lord with Wings, Soulspike

    Wight King with Shield

    40 spear skeletons

    40 spear skeletons

    10 dire wolves

    30 grave guard with shields

    Geminids of Ulg-Hysh

Do you feel like I should split units to have more MSU board presence? Is the unit of 10 dire wolves better since it has more threat when it appears?

I don't have Harbingers, because otherwise I'd field 2 or 4 in order to make use of their outstanding alpha strike potential. The models I have on top of those I listed here are 2x5 hexwraiths, a corpse cart, 60 zombies and 10 more dire wolves.

Its perfect for the Harbinger who likes to be just behind the action on the front lines.

But if I play a guo along with the supported units near the frontline, doesn't it have more AoE coverage because of its base and more wounds (and native disgustingly resilient) in order to survive longer?

  5. This is a list I will be running at a local tournament.

I would like your suggestions on spells and artefact choice, knowing that realm artefacts are forbidden.

Guo bell and flail, hulking physique, witherstave, (spell?)

    Glottkin, (blades of putrefaction?)

Harbinger of Decay, (why should he have the witherstave instead of the guo? Eggs in a single basket?)

40 marauders, shields and axes, banner of reroll 1s

    10 warriors, great weapons

    2×5 blightkings

Chaos War Mammoth (using lotr mumakil); this thing can destroy anything with 5× 4+ chances to do d3 mortal wounds. The other 10 attacks are gravy on top. In a test game I've systematically destroyed a full health unit of 5 liberators per activation.

I'd suggest the realm artefact that gives you -3 rend on the claws of the keeper. We don't get depravity points from mortal wounds, but -3 rend is as good as mortal wounds for many armies.

What is the name and realm of that artefact, please?

  7. List discussion. Pretenders.

Keeper of secrets (devotee of torment, one other trait, realm artefact ...?)

    KoS

Daemon Prince with wings and sword

Daemon Prince with wings and axe

    2x Exalted Chariot

    10 warriors (shields)

    10 warriors (great weapons)

    40 marauders (flails)

    10 seekers

    Geminids

    Models:

I am keeping my 40 daemonettes, a herald on foot, a chariot herald and more seeker cavalry for summoning purposes.

    Realm artefact discussion:

-Sword of Judgement, that gives me d6 mortal wounds on a 6 to hit. Pair with supremely vain for 5+ mortal wounds.

-Ethereal Armor, that makes my 4+ save ignore rend. Pair with Allure of Slaanesh for -1 to hit.

    -Anything else you would suggest?

  8. Questions for you lot.

    1. Can I move, run, then pile in (without charging) if I am within 6 of the opponent and with the Devotee of Torment command trait?

    2. When using the non exalted keeper's command ability, must I attack once, let my opponent go for a combat sequence, then fight again with the unit that I used first, or can I pile in and attack twice in succession without pause for the opponent?

Has anyone used Slaves to Darkness stuff with any success? Mainly Chaos Warriors, knights, and chosen. Every time I've tried, they've come across as pillow fisted and not particularly good at tanking, but perhaps I misused them. Do they have a place in a Slaanesh list?

Yep. My 2k list has 3x10 chaos warriors. I keep my 40 daemonette models as summons. They are great objective sitters especially with shields. You don't want double weapons if you're pretenders... but you lose the bonus after 2 wounds so your mileage may vary. Great weapons give some rend on 4+ save models, quite similar to Ironjaw Ardboyz if you ask me.

Compared to Liberators they are 10pts cheaper and with shields you can get a 5+ save against mortal wounds. Pretty nifty!

In my list, my heavy hitters are two keepers two chariots and two flying daemon princes for maximum wound-to-summoning potential.

It is now per models rather than per unit so a lot harder for it to effect the whole unit

Pardon me. What "plus one to hit bubble icon "are you referring to? Is that a trait, an artefact, if so what and where? Is it something on a warscroll? Whose warscroll? Thanks.

So, this is what I have been working on

    Warscroll Builder on www.warhammer-community.com
Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals - Mortal Realm: Hysh
    LEADERS
    Lord-Aquilor (200)
    - General
    - Command Trait : Strategic Genius
    - Artefact : Aetherquartz Brooch
    - Mount Trait : Wind Runner
    Lord-Arcanum on Gryph-Charger (240)
    - Artefact : Mirrorshield
    - Spell : Speed of Lightning
    - Mount Trait : Wind Runner
    UNITS
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120)
    -Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    9 x Castigators (240)
    5 x Vanguard-Hunters (120)
    -Boltstorm Pistols and Shock Handaxes
    9 x Castigators (240)
    6 x Vanguard-Palladors (400)
    -Boltstorm Pistols and Starstrike Javelins
    5 x Liberators (100)
    -Warhammer & Shield
    - 1 x Grandhammers
    WAR MACHINES
    Celestar Ballista (100)
    BATTALIONS
    Soulstrike Brotherhood (120)
    ENDLESS SPELLS
    Soulsnare Shackles (20)

    1900/2000

Can't quite figure out what I want to do with the last 100 points. Either more bodies, a hero, or maybe another ballista.I think the play style is going to be a lot like aetherstrike the damage from the castigators the turn they come down is going to be horrendous with arcanum command ability, and the palladors will act like shock cav that can put some hurt in key targets

Do you have only a single battle line?

So now that Lens of refraction is useless, what are our options now ?

I like the jade diadem, makes you Heal Wounds on a 6+ on my usual setup a stardrake wound be Nigh unkillable, ( Lord Castellant Buff and staunch.)

healing Wounds on a 4+ and 2 Wounds on 5+ seems legit

I'd grab the armor that ignores modifiers from Shyish. Most heroes have a 3+ so it becomes an "invulnerable" of sorts. The Nigthaunt will be jealous!

  13. The command ability and spell of the LAoT means that

    1) you're trying to get the charge off by running and charging (i.e. requiring the synergy of LAoT and Heraldor and potentially Chronomantic Cogs ensless spell) and discounting any Staunch Defender

    2) you want to shove your flying mage down the throat of the enemy: both to help your shooting and to do a small explosion of mortal wounds.

For my part I actually prefer the LAoGryphCharger instead, both for its CA (boost sacrosanct stuff) and its spell (heal d3 or d6 wounds).

  14. About evocators. 3 from the soul wars box then 2 with grandstave. Since the maths are very similar, it's about reaching over the brethren rather than actual attack stats.

In a game, I had a unit of 5 between a rock and a hard place, and only 3  could hit because of the 1 inch reach. Get higher reach!

I'm a Stormcast player, I want to say that upfront because I have a bit of an issue with the way the faction has been handled and I wanted to get some other opinions. I feel like their line is already bloated and in some cases redundant. I can't think of a model that I don't think looks cool with the SC. They essentially have 3 armies with (in my opinion) negligable variation shoved into 1 faction.

Between Liberators,  Hunters and Sequitors you've got a battle line unit repeated three times over. One of these could have been SC and the other two could have been designed as another Order faction. Same with cav options. You got ones on dragons ones on dragon cats and ones on bird horses. All very cool but also a little redundant. This isn't to say they are precisely the same thing but they represent an interesting monstrous cav unit and the other two or even one could have been used (as a concept) for something like Freeguild for example.

I'm just concerned that one faction being so dense between lords and units will have some oppressive effects on the games development. What are your thoughts?

That was well put. I agree. They could have given us shooty montrous cav and melee monstrous cav and that would have been enough.
