  1. Gotta say, I'm finally getting a wee bit excited for this. Looking forward to what my existing Freeguild army can do with the new battalions and abilities, but mostly looking forward to not being forced to use my allies allocation for artillery and wizards.

What are y'all planning to do with that opportinity?

So I'm going to assume (with a heavy heart) that militia weapons are gone as an option for freeguild guard now.

I really hope people are happy for me to still use my unit of 20 as another option. It took forever to model them all.

Still this book couldn't have come at a better time. As it pre orders on my local GW stores birthday so I can order that and the stormcast knight questor to go into my city army too :)

I doubt they'll be in the guard warscroll, but I'm thinking about playing mine as corsairs w. handbows - gives me a reason to convert up a cool hero to count as a fleetmaster.

  3. Only thing I'm sceptical about is crits causing mortal wounds as I think MWs already have way too much of an impact in skirmish games. Besides that I love the streamined version of the wound and injury tables from games like mordheim etc.

I'd probably use the hero injuries for every single member of the warband, just 'cause I ike the sense of importance it grants even the most unassuming of fighters.

Do you have a plan to write up some kind of campaign progression rules too?

With the new release of the Snarlfang wolverider warband I started to think about using the wolves as substitute for demigryphs and mounting them with knights instead of grots. Rulewise it shouldn't be much of a problem, but do you think the size could fit? Demigryphs themselves aren't that big so i guess the new wolves with saddles could be a better looking and fitting option than fenrisian wolves?

I'm getting the feeling that with the new Cities 'tome there will be other cavalry that'll fit better, rules-wise than the demigryphs.

  5. Anyone else getting the feeling the rules for these models might be used with the old TK models to give new life to at least some of those models. Like you could use tomb guard for the new infantry and ushabti for the big boys, there's even a skull catapult!

  6. I would also keep to the doctrine of elves-for-elves and humans-for-humans if AoS had literally any rules differences for them besides meaningless keywords and one inch of movement stat. In WHFB I' definitely refrain from using an elf as a adwarf since elves generally don't have T4 I2 and hatred(goblins), ut in AoS they're just a one-wound model with a sword and a shield so who cares as long as you can tell what battlefield role they have? Now it might look like I'm dragging AoS for the limited statline but I'm not (well, maybe a little) I'm fine with the CoS book slimming down the unit selection to streamline the game and just encourage counts-as where the feel and strategy of the army matters more what species they are.

What I'm not fine with is removing the archers kit, that hurts more than when they blew up the Old World.

Maybe there is a hint in the last price increase. What if we assume that everything which wasn`t increased gets removed? Why should they invest time in changing prices if they remove it shortly afterwards?

If I recall it correctly the archer and the generals on foot have not been increased. There is also the cannon/organ gun which strangely wasn`t increased in price. All the Devoted to Sigmar stuff stayed the same also.

However they did show a flagellant with the other Free City models so the Devoted are likely in the book.

For all Spire of Dawn Swifthawk owners - if our units won't survive (and it's very possible) you can use your models as :

Spireguard - Freeguild Guard with spears

Swordmasters - Freeguild Guard with swords *

High Warden - Freeguild General on Griffon

    Archmage - Battle Wizard *

Reavers - Pistoliers (I excluded Outriders as they are armed with Blunderbusses and I think their damage output is too big for bows, pistols are better for that)

    * - units that could survive as they currently still have models

I assume you meant switch out the swordmasters for greatswords since those are basically one for one - great weapon, heavy armour and 2 attacks a piece.

I heard that it was written by the guy that wrote hinterlands, so this is basically official gw hinterlands 2.0.

He seems to be in the rules team yes, but so far nothing about what we've heard about Warcry makes it seem anything like hinterlands beyond being an AoS skirmish game.

  10. I'm really looking forward to trying out meeting engagement on my 3x3' board I have at home, probably gonna mix it with the new cityfight rules for good measure since the terrain I have doesn't have to be spread out over a full 6x4' (obviously not gonna use the silly terrain placement rules)

So, basically the "updated allegiance abilities" for Free Peoples are just a copy from GH18

Sure looks like it. Maybe that means there's a battletome in the not-too-distant future (highly unlikely, I now I know, but one can dream).

well turn 1 anvil battleline, turn 2 big scary monster, turn 3 cheap battleline.

so 3 gruntas,  gordrak, unit of 6 gruntas

or 2 dire wolf units, nagash, a chainrasp unit

would be legal with the shown rules baring any point increases.

still i like how the rules encourage the lesser ran elite units rather that are usually overshadowed by the 30-40 man blob units so grave guard and the likes might see play

    Main Body requires 1 batteline.

So how have people faired with big missile units?

I'm toying with big blocks of handguns and crossbows for fun.

Since every competitive FP army seems to revolve around exactly that I'd guess fairly well.

You could easily fit in a 4-500pt model then a couple 200ish units.it helps that the behemoths are generally very fast so can get into the game

I guess some armies could do this but for the majority I think the 500pt hero would mostly be a huge point sink for not that much tactical advantage. This isn't based on any deeper analysis but mostly gut feeling and I might be wrong of course.

The size restrictions on units seems good also.  I hope there is also some restriction to prevent some of the more powerful/expensive heroes from being used in this game mode.

I'd say the fact that you have to divide the army into three parts with at least one unit in each severely limits how expensive a hero you can bring.
