Not official roadmap seems to be a core factions release every 3 months divided in 3 waves :

    O&G - spring ( april/may)

    Dwarfs- summer ( july/August)

    5th faction unknown - autumn

2025: rest of 4 core factions every 3 months as well

I'm not so sure. We are only midway through March and O+G are up for preorder already and we may see the next faction reveal in a couple of days at Adepticon. I think they are roughly going for 2 factions a quarter with all 9 factions released by Q1 2025. The first "Campaign" book released in the spring/summer of next year.

  2. I don't know what is telling me this but I feel that GW is moving away from the Vrs boxes and moving towards more Spearhead/Combat Patrol - Splash Army box releases. I'm not entirely sure that the Vrs boxes were that big of a hit as several were around for some time.

With SCE and Skaven coming in summer, I would like to see AoS keep the ball rolling at a good pace and have a large update/addition to at least one other faction before the end of the year. Whatever is happening with Beasts, or a 2nd wave for one of the lighter factions.

  3. I'd like to see them launch the edition in Aqshy and then have a series of campaign/lore/narrative books similar to what they are doing in 40k with the Crusade series (with Tyrannic War and now Pariah Nexus) spread across the edition, focusing on conflicts and locations of note and tied to the release of certain Battletomes with a few cheeky extras for other factions making an appearance as well.

  4. Really looking forward to seeing what the Skaven have to come in AoS 4. They will be my 2nd/3rd Chaos faction after Slaves/DarkOath. With the possibility of Chorfs on the horizon, this might just be the most Chaos-heavy edition to date.
(At least when it comes to my spending!

  5. I like the red branding for AoS. The 40k one is a bit too "modern" looking IMO and would I'd prefer a bit more grim darkness.  With four distinct Warhammer settings AoS, 40k, ToW, HH I can see them wanting to keep the same branding around for longer to help solidify each system's identity.

  6. This is complete wish-listing, but I have just watched the first 4 episodes of FX's Shogun (It's really good so far) and man what I would give for a full Japanese/Chinese/South east Asian inspired faction. An AoS Grand Cathay type faction based in Ulgu. It would be interesting to have other human factions that were completely different to Cities.

The problem with this is that we got the cancelled Gallet book, so we cannot say that something on those lines was not the initial plan, and who knows if there were even plans for more Book + Incarnate.

Gallet could have been pushed for several reasons. GW logistics were majorly screwed at the time. We might see it reworked in AoS 4. GW tends to come back to things.

  8. A few thoughts on a few things.

Encouraged to see a continuation of the £85 price point for the Vanguard > Spearhead transition. With a 20% discount that is £68, which is a decent entry point to a faction. (If Spearhead does in fact become an AoS Combat Patrol game type

I'm a little torn on the rumours that AoS will launch in Aqshy. Whilst I would like to see another realm explored more deeply, I also don't think it is necessary to "theme" an edition around a particular realm. I would actually like to see updates and goings-on from all the different realms across an edition.

I think having a narrative (Dawnbringers) spread across 6 books is too many. I would prefer to see 3 shorter narrative campaigns with a beginning middle and end spread throughout an edition. Say,

Narrative one - Summer 2025 June, July, August

Narrative two - Summer 2026 June, July, August

Narrative three - Spring 2027 March, April, May

It would allow for an expansion of the number of publications (to make lovely monies) you could set each one in a different realm and I just feel that having three (thicker) books with a more concise narrative would work better than what they currently have going.

  9. I wonder if GW will try to do something similar to Marines in 40k, with AoS factions?

A larger "standard" Battletome and then Battletome supplements for "sub-factions"

A STD Battletome and then a Darkoath Battletome supplement? Or  Orruk Battletome with Iron Jaw supplement, etc?

(Side note, does anyone else find it a little galling that the new Dark Angel Codex supplement is RRP £20 for a Hardback 96 page book compared to £32.50 for 96 page hardback Battletome (Like Fyreslayers, or Kharadron)?

  10. Nice to see the Spearheads coming up on order. I asked about them the other day as I plan on getting the Cities box. If this will be the AoS version of 40k's Combat Patrol, then I can see them wanting to pump out the majority of faction Spearheads so they are available with the release of AoS 4th.

  11. I would be disappointed if Cities of Sigmar went through 4th edition as they currently are. In my ideal world, I would like to see CoS get a 2nd wave of 9 kits. 3 Human kits (Religious character, New Flaggelents, Cogfort) 3 Aelve kits (Character, 10 man infantry kit, Cavalry kit) and 3 Duradin kits (Character, 10 man infantry kit, Warmachine) all done in the new CoS aesthetic. Then remove all the current Duradin and (Dark) Aelve kits from the range.

That would "complete" the range. It would be all new models in the AoS aesthetic and could be added to through Warcry/ Underworlds in the future.

  12. You can add me to the list of those wanting to see a lot more content in Battletomes in 4th edition. I really hope that we see some more artwork, maps and expanded lore and would likely not go the route of picking them up if it's just basically going to be the same content copy-pasta'd again.

Just a few tweaks and cleaning up of faction tactics is all that’s really needed.

Yeah but it would be hard to justify a new edition for a few tweaks

When it comes to AoS 4.0 I am pretty torn on what direction GW is going to take. On the one hand, I agree with Baron, the game of AoS is in a good state. The Battletomes feel pretty solid, not just in terms of rules, but art direction, layout etc. I could see AoS 4 being more like AoS 3.5, with Battletomes being usable in the new edition and the focus being on re-releases, updates and essentially consolidating what AoS 3 has already laid out. It would allow for exploration into other things with more of a focus on the game's setting, lore and timeline.

At the same time, I agree with Marcvs. I can't help but feel like modern-day customer expectations and (GW's pockets) call for more of a hard reset. With AoS 4 kicking off with the redundancy of all AoS 3 edition battle-tomes and the release of new Index books/cards for all factions similar to what we saw for the 40k 10th edition launch.

We cannot compare a game with 40 years vs one with 10.

It is disingenuous to say that WFB is 40 years old. It's been completely unsupported for the last decade! Also, the Games Workshop of the 80's, 90's and 00's was completely different to the one of the last 10 years. The GW of the last 10 years has so many more staff, designers and resources.

It's a deliberate design decision that GW has made regarding what to focus on in AoS. (Due to mark-ups amongst other things) I don't even think that AoS should have as many infantry options as ToW, I just feel many of the AoS factions feel a little sparse when they only have a single 10-man infantry unit and a single 5-man (special) infantry unit.

Hopefully, we will see infantry choices bulked out through upcoming Warcry Releases. (Like the recently announced Pyre and Blood) and new infantry/cavalry options in 4th.

If you're in the US or don't mind shipping I think I've got most of an isle of blood box somewhere I'd be happy to part with so someone can bring them back to life!

Cheers, but I'm in the UK and this is already more than enough for me to be getting on with (I'm also doing Bretonnia and Beasts for ToW and have 40k, AoS and HH as well! 😅

I have so much more fun with making armylists for WoC and the Empire than I have with StD and CoS

I have mentioned this before regarding AoS factions, but I don't think they have enough infantry/cavalry options. So many of the factions are top-heavy, with lots of centre-pieces, characters, monsters etc but not many options when it comes to "boots on the ground". The experience of building a list in AoS feels a lot more like deck building and putting together a warband, as opposed to mustering an actual army.

The High Elves in ToW have the Ulthuan Militia (Spearmen or Archers), Sea Guard, White Lions, Sword Masters, Pheonix Guard, Shadow Warriors and Sisters of Avelorn. That's 8/9 different options when it comes to infantry units alone. (Never mind the granular size, magic items, command and formation options

The Lumineth have the Vanari Auralan (Sentinals or Wardens), Blade Lords and Stone Guard. That's it... and the Lumineth are one of the better-supported factions in AoS.

I really hope we see more factions get decent, 10-man units added to their roasters in AoS 4. Put some meat on their bones. As well as more options when it comes to building a unit.

  17. I was rummaging through various boxes and dusty chests in the forgotten depths of my game room, and look what I found! Over a couple of hours, I've managed to cobble together a rag-tag collection of High Elves that have most definitely seen better days. (I don't think they have even seen the light of day for 20 years) Chips, cracks, broken weapons, missing shields and tails (Although I was happy to be able to find all the parts for the broken-up Prince on Griffon at the top right). Time to order some correctly sized bases, pull out the Isopropyl, greenstuff and modelling tools and hit up eBay for some missing components!

The janky High Elves of the dusty box shall ride again!
