nobody likes a gatekeeper dude. Warhammer is a simple enough game that anyone can play it with a reference card but we arent all built the same way and being an ass about it serves noone.

How was I being an ass about it? There are many Warhammer games. Play one that suits your style and ability. The only one being an ass is you.

It's worth pointing out that some folks are much better at internalising rules than others. When we see thus sort of thing, there can be a trend for players who are good at rules to think "well, I learned it pretty easily, so its easy to learn". That might just mean though, that you are better than average at learning it, so please be sympathetic and have empathy towards those who find this harder.

Conversely, I think it is important that those who find rules difficult to understand or learn appreciate that the system may just not be for them and that there are dozens of much simpler rule sets out there for different systems and it is ok for a game to have slightly more "complex rules" for those who are able to comprehend them. Not every system should be aimed at the lowest denominator. It's okay for different systems to be aimed at different types of people. It would be a shame if TOW suffers the same fate as many other systems, becoming so "streamlined" and "simple" because of the demands of those who are either unable or unwilling to read and internalize a couple of paragraphs of rules.

If I was to join a martial arts gym as a novice, I wouldn't join a black belt class and demand that they treat me with kid gloves. I would look for a class that was appropriate for my level. (White belt

  3. I love tables and really wasn't a big fan when the games went to basic 3+ rolls (or whatever) I felt it took so much flavour out of the games. Very happy to see them returning and from what we have seen so far in regard to the rules I am a lot more optimistic than I was previously.

Am I the only one who doesn't care where we go?

I care, but only because I can see the huge potential of exploring the Realms properly, rather than what we currently have. GW really needs to further define and characterize the different realms IMO. I personally would prefer for an Edition cycle to be accompanied by different "Realm Expansions" across the edition's lifespan. (Rather than the narrative books we currently have squashed into the end of an edition

So you would have the edition launch set in Ulgu for example, with the starter set, a big rule book, and then shortly after a "Ulgu" campaign/lore book. Then 9 subsequent books across the entire 3 years of the edition representing the 8 Realms, 8 Points and The Aetheric Void (Making for a total of 10 books per edition) leading into the next edition.

It would allow for each Realm to be steadily built out across each edition, for all factions to be covered (You could have a "Versus box" accompanying each of the Campaign books)

  5. It's been marked as "Sold Out Online" for some time but that likely just means that the allotment for the web store has sold out, and with AoS V4 coming next year, why do a full print run with current packaging when you can do a new run for 4th Next year. Still available in store and at multiple online retailers though :)

GW have been massively overproducing these types of boxes recently.

You really shouldn't have any issues getting hold of one, especially as AOS is far from 40K's level of popularity.

Obviously, there is an international customer base for GW products, so if you are based somewhere off GW's beaten track your experience will vary. However, apart from a few select products (Black Library special editions which are targetted by scalpers) stock really has become less of an issue from when they were experiencing multiple different issues (many of which were out of their control)

GW doesn't want (or need) to sell out of product, it's not like a high fashion brand where the value is tied directly to its scarcity. I also think that a lot of forum folk (here and elsewhere) don't really understand the nature of print runs. If GW has a forecasted demand of say 3400 of a particular product, they will do a run of 4000 (Or even 5000). Which will cover the forecasted demand with plenty left over to absorb any additional demand. It might mean that there is a perception that they are "massively overproducing" stuff but in doing so they are able to make each product even cheaper than if they only printed 3000 which sells out almost instantly.

The actual base cost of production for GW products is almost entirely related to "upfront" costs in terms of design, not the actual, plastic, paper and ink you physically get. A product will have a development cost, a minimal run to offset that cost then every additional product sold thereafter is almost entirely profit.

  7. It feels a bit like the AoS design studio is perhaps taking another crack and trying to emulate some of the success of Marine Chapters in 40k, by expanding and developing the different Fortress Cities (which I am totally here for) 11 distinct thematic cities with different iconography, colour schemes and traits. It also makes sense that this is in fact the first wave for Cities. I would love to see more fantasy humans and perhaps city upgrade sprues similar to what marines get. Let's hope they sell well which will please the bean counters and encourage their further development.

  8. The Seraphon army set was £130 and with the pricing of Cities at £120 I feel like GW were pushing the price up until they found a point that started to affect sales. The Seraphon set didn't "fly off the shelves" (in fact there is still a few retailers out there with them still in stock) A £120 price point means just under £100 with a 20% discount (which is what most retailers offer) It makes sense to me as there is a big psychological jump when a product breaks the £100 mark.

  9. There are so many variables when it comes to considering dust. Do you live in a rural or urban environment? On a low or high floor? Will the units be placed in a high-traffic area? (lots of people coming and going) are there smokers in the home and what kind of room will the cabinets be in? Is it carpeted, air-conned, heated, etc?

Actual proper dustproof display cabinets with rubber seals (seen in retail, museums etc) Cost thousands (Think £5000+ for a similar amount of shelving space as the KALLAX) and IMO are complete overkill for Warhammer figures. (If you have a nice Rolex collection or are displaying literal Golden Demon quality figs then they may be worth it) You also generally don't want to have the cabinets in direct sunlight or to be in a room that experiences extreme temperatures.

I generally give the inserts a light dusting once every 6/8 weeks (but could easily leave them much longer) A can of air (Or just use an air compressor) to quickly spray the models and give the shelf itself a quick wipe down. Takes about 2/3 mins per insert. Maybe an hour or two of cleaning every couple of months total.

  10. The Kallax shelves are sturdy, easy to assemble and offer a lot of flexibility. Not sure about Euros but the Glass shelf inserts are only £22 each. So a row of 4 = £88. I have 3 rows = £264 + £115 for the Shelving Unit itself =£379.

What I like about it was that I originally bought the Shelving Unit, 4 Glass Shelf inserts and some Fabric Storage Drawers (Only £3 each) then bought subsequent Shelving inserts as and when I needed/wanted more room. So I didn't need to pay the full amount up front.

The 4x4 KALLAX Unit is one of the bigger ones as well. You can get a 2x4 Unit KALLAX 2x4 (£65) With x4 Glass Sheld Inserts and 4 Fabric drawers all for a total of £165 (I guess around 200 Euros)

There is also the BLALIDEN Unit BLALIDEN Glass Cabinet for £80, but it removes the flexibility afforded by the KALLAX Units and is nowhere near as sturdy.

I'm an Interior Designer by trade and have done an ungodly amount of research into different furniture options over the years. If anyone knows where I could get a custom-made piece of furniture that offers a similar range of options at a similar quality please let me know. For something custom with a similar amount of shelving space and fitted glass I was quoted a minimum of £2000+

My wallet’s bout to be hit with textbook fees, but GE has decided to unleash so many goodies these coming weeks…… may God have mercy on us all……

I assume you mean for University/ College? Remember that ALL content in extortionate textbooks is available FOR FREE online (and I don't mean piracy) Check Project Gutenberg, ProjectStax and Library Genesis. Also, if you are interested in any specific papers email the author directly and they will invariably send it to you for free (as the actual authors don't get a cut from academic textbooks)

  12. 100% the best bang for your buck is the KALLAX shelving units from Ikea. They come in a range of different sizes (and colours/finishes

    IKEA - KALLAX Shelving Unit

You can then also buy a KALLAX glass shelf insert with a glass door for each of the shelves in the unit.

IKEA - KALLAX Glass shelf insert and glass door.

I have the (4x4) KALLAX shelving units with Glass inserts and doors with KALLAX DRAWER INSERTS running along the bottom line for additional storage. With some LED light strips they look great. Table Top Tactics uses them (in black) to display their models in their new studio which can be seen in the background of their battle report vids.

Table Top Tactics - Nighthaunt v Indoneth Deepkin Battle report

In terms of easy availability in the UK, value for money, versatility and flexibility they are the best around (by far) unless you are willing to spend a lot of money.

One to avoid is this one from Argos.

    ARGOS Glass Cabinet

It is so cheap looking (and feeling) the glass is as thin as paper.

You mean needlessly destroying the planet, your wealth, jobs and the future so a few hundred people can build their version of a Dagobert Duck Tower?

I mean the creation of wealth that brings health, education and quality of life to Billions of people, the capitalism that brings millions out of poverty every year. The device you used to type that, the game this very forum is about, and the luxury of living a life that allows you to turn around to the hundreds of millions of people still unfortunately in dire poverty and say they should stay there to make you feel better about "saving the planet" (whilst benefitting from the very things you are advocating depriving others of) Do your arms hurt from pulling up the ladder behind you? Anyways... enough of that.

  14. As others have mentioned I would love to see AoS V4 introduce an ability to "Build your own hero". AoS should still have the "Tool" characters with their own specific Warscrolls and gear (with a few options) but a "Build-a-bear" Hero option with the ability to create your own would be very fun (and cool

Brand loyalty gets you nothing, usually.

Huh? Brand loyalty is responsible for the rise of some of the biggest corps on the planet. With those resources, companies are able to invest in R+D which results in products significantly better than if they were a fraction of the size. Brand Loyalty is incredibly important for both companies and their customers. (It should never be taken for granted though) Do you even capitalisim?

Could u explain what combat patrol does? Havent really played 40k in a while and havent looked at 10th at all yet.

Sure! Combat Patrol is where you buy a Combat Patrol box (Similar to the AoS Vanguard Box) and it is a force ready to play out of the box (With each faction having a Combat Patrol Box roughly balanced against each of the other faction boxes) The models in them have their own slightly simpler and tweaked Datasheets (Warscolls) different from the Datasheets used in Matched play. The idea is that you can buy a Combat Patrol Box, Download the Combat Patrol Datasheets for free for the models in the box, and you can play against any other Combat Patrol Box in a roughly balanced battle. No other purchase is necessary. It's a really great way to get people into the hobby IMO. Do you like the look of a different faction? All you need to do is buy a single box, Download free rules and you are good to go to play against any other Combat Patrol. The games take roughly an hour, there is no list building (as the list is the contents of the box) and all the rules are free to download.

Great for new players, and for those who want a simpler, shorter, pick-up game of roughly balanced forces. (At a smaller and simpler scale

I buy loads of battletomes but I buy them for the fluff! The lore , stories , artwork and to learn more about the faction.

I own every single AoS V3 Battletome so far. (Cities and FEC will be the last two which will complete this edition's collection). I love having a "library", I like the feel and touch of physical books, the art, the way in which they are laid out, the stories and the cozy immersive feeling I get when I sit down in an evening to look through them. I buy, build and collect models under the four Grand Alliance banners. Order, Chaos, Destruction and Death. (If I like a model I buy it) my painting desk currently has a Stormcast Vindicator Squad, a Slaves to Darkness Warrior Squad, a Sauras Warrior Squad and some KruelBoyz Gutrippaz. I like chopping and changing between factions, models and styles. The last factor that I consider when making a purchase from GW is "What are the rules like?" That consideration only comes when I am putting together a Matched play army for pick-up games or compiling lists for tournaments.

Let me play a Death army with Vampires, a Black Coach supported by FEC and design it from the ground up and paint it that way. I just want to get the most fun out of all miniatures available.

You can already do this! It is called Narrative play! I understand that there are different types of folk. I just don't relate to the idea that some people need not only to be led to water but have it cupped and forced down their throat as well. Why can you not already do this? Why do you need GW to spell something out in order to do it? The only people that matter are you and the people you play with. This is an important point as if your only gaming outlet is pick-up games with people you do not know, there has to be some restrictions and a balancing aspect for those encounters. I think that GW should (and probably will) have 3 distinct "ways to play" going forward. Vanguard (Buy & Play) Matched (Points & Play) and Narrative (Story & Play).

I think it will be really interesting to see the new 10th Edition SpaceMarine and Tyranid Codex, I think they might give some insight into how Battletomes for AoS V4 will be approached. I hope that we will see a similar launch for AoS V4 as we did with 40k 10th, with all Battlescrolls available for free online (and through the app) at launch. With physical Card decks available for all factions for those who want a physical copy. With Vanguard being the AoS Version of Combat Patrol, It would be nice to see Grand Alliance rules under the Narrative Play banner allowing for cool and thematic combinations without worrying too much about great balance like in Vanguard or Matched Play.

Whether those are tied to a CITY more than a realm I think is the real question.

Oh for sure. They would be realm representatives, I was just thinking in terms of cities as it could be an interesting narrative direction for WARCRY to go in. (A large gladiatorial-style tournament, with various cities from across the realms sending their representatives to duke it out in huge colosseums!)  I would really like for the actual cities to get expanded upon. Where 40k's scale deals with planets and systems which is great for Sci-Fi. AoS dealing with cities and continents is great for fantasy IMO.
