It’s not particuarly good for the game to have a playable plastic faction cut for what appears to be no tangible reason that makes sense to anyone

It's not good for the game to stagnate and never change either. I can see at least a good dozen reasons why GW are going in this direction. It makes perfect sense to me.

If BoC get an index that means they survive all the edition.

Your definition is different to mine. "GW Released a free PDF index and then literally nothing else for the faction over a 3-year period" doesn't mean "surviving an edition" to me.  They will get a free pdf pack at the start of the edition and THAT'S IT.

This isn't directed at you in particular but some people really cannot read what is right in front of them. ALL BOC models are being moved to TOW and BOC will NOT get a BOC AoS4 edition. Just look at the site, the product line. This is happening.

That puts the BOC squatted rumour to bed for now.

If they don't want to alarm players just yet, they may well offer index and never replace it with a proper BT.

Exactly. Of course, BoC were always going to get an Index (Called it being an Index edition not long after seeing what happened in 40k). They just won't be getting a Battletome under the name BoC if there is a "Beast-like" BT on AoS4 at all.

BoC will not exist as they currently do by the end of AoS 4. All the BoC (Including the Shaman and Warlord) will be sold for ToW and the range will be reimagined or removed.

  4. Having re-watched the cinematic I must say that I really like it. Starting by being felled in battle after putting up a hell of a fight, chosen and stolen from Nagash (who looked fantastic) being killed across the epochs Chaos, Necro and Beast then seeing Blight City manifest in the realms. (We assume that this has only happened in Aqshy, but I wonder if Skaven have appeared elsewhere) If the 40k cinematic is anything to go by, the stuff we saw in the trailer will be a pretty accurate representation of what we will see in model form.

Man... I wish GW would sort out their Amazon, Warhammer + stuff. This trailer could easily be the basis of a full series. Would be awesome.

Speaking of, I'd love to see a new warhammer quest, if only the price of entry was more reasonable

Funnily enough, talking about value. With a 20% discount, I think that Cursed City is one of the best value boxes that GW does! 60 fantastic minis! books, cards, tokens, tiles etc all for £100.

after several editions of aos and 40k, the novelty has worn off for me a bit, a lot of the lore and art is recycled, not that they should be only in one book and disappear forever, but it feels like it comes at the expense of new content and the fact that codex/battletome points are not even always valid on release is even worse

Oh, you are very much preaching to the choir. I love GW and I'm generally very positive regarding their releases and products, but as a (very) long-term customer, I think the quality/quantity and price equilibrium around their books is way off. IMO new Army books should have newly commissioned front cover art and multiple new art pieces throughout the publication. Significantly more lore/ background (Significant new content each time) and should be a minimum of 150+ pages. (Most hover around just under 100). A new book should be exciting for rules lovers as well as lore/art/collectors.

Thanks a ton for helping with those guidelines for the battletomes! I love lore and art so I will probably get them after all then.

GW Publications are a strange one. I feel very satisfied with my purchases sometimes (The recent TOW books, Dark Angel Supplement) and other times I feel like the value is not there in terms of content (The Dawnbringers series, Arcane Journals) I do still think that going into a GW, buying a new Codex or Army book for 30 quid and sitting with a cup of tea reading it and putting together lists and really getting into the army is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the "GW hobby". My 2nd edition Eldar Codex still sits proudly on a shelf. I like getting the publications but I will be a lot more discerning when it comes to which ones I really want to get as I feel like GW has been really squeezing the price to content ratio lately.

Not official roadmap seems to be a core factions release every 3 months divided in 3 waves :

    O&G - spring ( april/may)

    Dwarfs- summer ( july/August)

    5th faction unknown - autumn

2025: rest of 4 core factions every 3 months as well

I'm not so sure. We are only midway through March and O+G are up for preorder already and we may see the next faction reveal in a couple of days at Adepticon. I think they are roughly going for 2 factions a quarter with all 9 factions released by Q1 2025. The first "Campaign" book released in the spring/summer of next year.

  9. I don't know what is telling me this but I feel that GW is moving away from the Vrs boxes and moving towards more Spearhead/Combat Patrol - Splash Army box releases. I'm not entirely sure that the Vrs boxes were that big of a hit as several were around for some time.

With SCE and Skaven coming in summer, I would like to see AoS keep the ball rolling at a good pace and have a large update/addition to at least one other faction before the end of the year. Whatever is happening with Beasts, or a 2nd wave for one of the lighter factions.

  10. I'd like to see them launch the edition in Aqshy and then have a series of campaign/lore/narrative books similar to what they are doing in 40k with the Crusade series (with Tyrannic War and now Pariah Nexus) spread across the edition, focusing on conflicts and locations of note and tied to the release of certain Battletomes with a few cheeky extras for other factions making an appearance as well.

  11. Really looking forward to seeing what the Skaven have to come in AoS 4. They will be my 2nd/3rd Chaos faction after Slaves/DarkOath. With the possibility of Chorfs on the horizon, this might just be the most Chaos-heavy edition to date.
(At least when it comes to my spending!

  12. I like the red branding for AoS. The 40k one is a bit too "modern" looking IMO and would I'd prefer a bit more grim darkness.  With four distinct Warhammer settings AoS, 40k, ToW, HH I can see them wanting to keep the same branding around for longer to help solidify each system's identity.

  13. This is complete wish-listing, but I have just watched the first 4 episodes of FX's Shogun (It's really good so far) and man what I would give for a full Japanese/Chinese/South east Asian inspired faction. An AoS Grand Cathay type faction based in Ulgu. It would be interesting to have other human factions that were completely different to Cities.

The problem with this is that we got the cancelled Gallet book, so we cannot say that something on those lines was not the initial plan, and who knows if there were even plans for more Book + Incarnate.

Gallet could have been pushed for several reasons. GW logistics were majorly screwed at the time. We might see it reworked in AoS 4. GW tends to come back to things.

  15. A few thoughts on a few things.

Encouraged to see a continuation of the £85 price point for the Vanguard > Spearhead transition. With a 20% discount that is £68, which is a decent entry point to a faction. (If Spearhead does in fact become an AoS Combat Patrol game type

I'm a little torn on the rumours that AoS will launch in Aqshy. Whilst I would like to see another realm explored more deeply, I also don't think it is necessary to "theme" an edition around a particular realm. I would actually like to see updates and goings-on from all the different realms across an edition.

I think having a narrative (Dawnbringers) spread across 6 books is too many. I would prefer to see 3 shorter narrative campaigns with a beginning middle and end spread throughout an edition. Say,

Narrative one - Summer 2025 June, July, August

Narrative two - Summer 2026 June, July, August

Narrative three - Spring 2027 March, April, May

It would allow for an expansion of the number of publications (to make lovely monies) you could set each one in a different realm and I just feel that having three (thicker) books with a more concise narrative would work better than what they currently have going.

  16. I wonder if GW will try to do something similar to Marines in 40k, with AoS factions?

A larger "standard" Battletome and then Battletome supplements for "sub-factions"

A STD Battletome and then a Darkoath Battletome supplement? Or  Orruk Battletome with Iron Jaw supplement, etc?

(Side note, does anyone else find it a little galling that the new Dark Angel Codex supplement is RRP £20 for a Hardback 96 page book compared to £32.50 for 96 page hardback Battletome (Like Fyreslayers, or Kharadron)?

  17. Nice to see the Spearheads coming up on order. I asked about them the other day as I plan on getting the Cities box. If this will be the AoS version of 40k's Combat Patrol, then I can see them wanting to pump out the majority of faction Spearheads so they are available with the release of AoS 4th.
