  1. I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have basically 2 x bonereapers feast of bones and a crawler to start an army with.

I'd like to start and paint 1000pts to play with. Not looking to make it too competitive as I often play against my son. But I also want it to not be terrible. I've made a list below based upon what I own so far (leaving out the 4 morghasts I own). Happy to buy the odd unit / character for something better balanced, but looking for tweeks rather than bin the models I already own and just take all Mortek Guard kind of suggestions. Thanks for any help 😀

    Allegiance: Ossiarch Bonereapers
    - Legion: Mortis Praetorians

    Leaders
Vokmortian, Master of the Bone-tithe (180)

    Battleline
    10 x Mortek Guard (130)
    - Nadirite Blade and Shield
    10 x Mortek Guard (130)
    - Nadirite Blade and Shield

    Units
    3 x Necropolis Stalkers (180)
    3 x Immortis Guard (180)

    Artillery
    Mortek Crawler (200)

    Total: 1000 / 1000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 200
    Wounds: 62

I thought nobody was going to beat this guy but I think @Snitchey may have done it.

Lol! That listing is pretty nuts. I made a start by assembling and priming a SM Repulsor yesterday. I asked my wife if that means I'm off the buying ban. She wasn't amused.

I can't take pictures of the inside of all the KR cases as you lot will really think I'm taking the ******. If you count the KR cases as singles there is 41 cases full of models. I'm 42 yrs old and not a quick painter. I can manage between 70 -100 models per year fully finished. I don't think I can finish painting the entire collection even if I live to an old age. I'm going to have a bloody good go though. I absolutely love this hobby! I do live in hope that my son takes up the reigns and continues to work on my collection when it's his one day 😀

Part of the problem with taking pictures is that its rare to have a pile of future joy that is all stacked up neatly in one corner of a room. I think its far more usual to live surrounded by boxes and shelves, and tables, and trays of models. If I was to share all my work in progress I think I'd basically need to upload a 360 degree photo of my house and annotate it with arrows pointing to the various unfinished bits. A lot of my unpainted or party painted models are stored neatly in the same hobby cases as the painted ones, so its somewhat hard to judge how much is finished and how much isn't.

Mine used to be like that but moving home really focused me to sort it all out.  With the help of a ridiculous amount of really useful boxes 😁 I now have it all organised. Each box has an inventory so I know exactly what is in each one.

For me the hardest part of the hobby is staying focused on one project at a time. In the last 4 or 5 years there has been so many new 'shiny toys' (that I must own!) That I get distracted and start thinking / buying a future project. Then I lose focus with the army I'm painting.

The only one that I stuck with in the last year is Nighthaunt  which I painted nearly everything I own but with mortal realms offering a cheap expansion. I am now behind on those too.

Still got to be positive about all the hobby filled days I now have ahead of me.

@Snitchey and in one photo you've probably come close to "winning" the backlog competition ;) Though its really nice to see it all sorted and orderly like that. At least you can find stuff! Just think by the end of all this you could have made a serious dent in that mountain! :)

I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed? The worrying part is thats just the stuff in the garage. Theres a bit more in the house 🤫 I had to confront the backlog when I moved house 2 months ago. My wife was not impressed with the enormity of it, when she helped me move it. She insisted on a buying ban. I've no idea why 🤣

I normally find myself either cash or time poor and the last few years have been time poor hence the massive collection. I'm really enjoying getting to grips with it now. My biggest fear of the lockdown was not being able to get replacement paints and brushes, so any I was getting low on I ordered ASAP. Its amazing to see how every online retailer has been cleaned out of stock of everything!

  5. My pile of shame is too much to list. The 84ltr really useful boxes on the left are full of unbuilt kits and boxed games. I'd love to say all the KR cases are full of painted models. But sadly its around 50/50 split between grey plastic and fully painted. The upside of this lockdown period is that my hobby time has massively increased. 20200116_154628.jpg.176d95c776b8bb3e43cad1ed121edde1.jpg

  6. I'm really enjoying contrast paints. I used them on some parts of these (hair, skin, red cloth, bone, base) it definitely speeded up my painting. The speed that the contrast bits done in was amazing. I think they are an aid to getting a good paint job in less time. Where they fall down is when you lose control & need to touch up. Then they offer no advantage over conventional methods

The bravery buff and two good spells are really valuable. But you must build an army around it to take advantage of them IMHO.

General opinion is AotStorm is better for offensive eel armies and AotSea is better for defensive Namarti armies (or that's how I understood it).

Thank you. I plan on running at least 9 eels + Volturnos so the storm sounds like a better fit for me. I don't have malign sorcery (yet). What artifact would you put on the storm from the battletomb?

If you calculate the average damage from both units, the Aspect of the Sea has almost half the output. That's far from "not much worse in combat".

Fair enough I hadn't done the maths just looked at the profiles.

In your opinion do the buffs the sea provides out weigh this given the sea is 40pts more?

They are realm artefact from Malign Portents

Thank you. I must of read all of the Deepkin ones at least 5 times, before I asked. Didn't want to ask a stupid question. Lol!

The part I keep puzzling over is whether to build an aspect of the storm or the sea. I really can't decide. Can someone please tell me what are the best points of either. I plan on running Volturnos and some eels. So the Storm would be good with the extra attacks. However is missing out on the sea who looks not much worse in combat with its healing spell and casting 2 spells too good to give up?

artifact for the storm could be the ignax's scales, giving him a 4+ ward, making him more durable to attacks? or you could give him something like the etheral amulet, which lets him ignore rend?

spells could be steed of tides to throw him into combat, or maybe vorpal malestrom in order to throw out easyish mortal wounds?

I've been through the book and I can't find either of these artifact's listed. What page are they on?

  11. I've just jumped in with the deepkin. The Christmas battleforce pushed me over the edge.

In addition to the battleforce. I've also picked up 3 more eels. 1x Leviadon. 1x  Elidolon. Volturnos / king. 1x Soulscryer 1 x shipwreck.

All models I love. Please can someone help me with advice.

Given what I have, would you build sea or storm? And King or Volturnos? How should I build my eels 3 of each or 6 of one? I will add more in time but want to paint what I have first have a few games then add more units or expand units as required. Thanks

That's on my radar as well (once I hobby through everything I already have).  Grandstaves out of the box, convert the extra SW Evocator Prime into another Knight-Incantor maybe.

The more I think of it. The more I think option 1 is a waste. Will I ever need 3 Incantors? Probably not.

If I go option 3 I can keep the spare SW Prime as a spare to use as 2 units of 5 instead of one unit of 10.

Converting it using the spare parts from the multipart kit may be an idea. The flame hand could look cool on it

  13. I've managed to get 2 lots of 3 Evocators from soul wars & a multipart kit. So if you were me what would you do.

    1) Keep the 3 Soul wars models as is & use the box to make 2 grandstave models to boost each unit to 5 models & use the spare to build an incantor

    2) As per option 1 but instead don't build the incantor. Build a new prime instead from the box set to make the units look more unique ( meaning I don't use one of the soul wars primes)

    3) Combine all the models to make 1 unit of 10. Drop one soul wars prime & build the multipart kit with 5 regular models all with Grandstaves
