  1. Does anyone know which Grand Alliance a pure Sons of Behemats army will belong to?

Will they boost the ranks of my beloved Destruction? We need some really big boys to join our ranks.

They would fit our ranks perfectly!

Honest question....outside of battalions that require them, does anyone actually see a reason go take a Butcher as opposed to a Slaughtermaster?  I don’t think either of their spells are better than lore spells, and the Butcher lacking cauldron abilities for the same cost just seems silly. Am I missing something?

I thought maybe in Bloodgullet for the bonuses but I believe that’s keyword BUTCHER so it applies to both.

Thinking about getting big ovals that are Slaughtermaster size and boring out a Butcher sized hole, adding a cauldron, and calling it a day. That way if I do want to run a Butcher I still can.

I don't really know. But I would guess the normal Butcher might be better in melee combat than the Slaughtermaster?

The Slaughtermaster has a 2D6 attack with 3+ hit and 3+ wound and no rend and a gnoblar attack with 3 attacks, 5+ hit and 5+ wound with no rend. Both attacks are dealing 1 damage.

For the Butcher you can choose:

    1. 3 attacks, 3+ hit and 3+ wound with -2 rend and 2 damage

    2. 3 attacks, 3+ hit and 3+ wound with -1 rend and 3 damage

I would assume that the normal butcher is propably better against models with a high save (If they don't have the ability to ignore rend). I mean for a magician he isn't that bad in melee combat.

  3. Another question. Because people were also talking about the Ironblasters. Isn't it better to take a Grot Scraplauncher now? For me at least the Scraplauncher seems to be better than the Ironblaster.

And why does the Scraplauncher Rhinox have 1 attack, whereas the Ironblaster Rhinox has 2 attacks? Isn't this the same Rhinox?

  4. And all these point changes also seem so low-effort. The Butcher and the Slaughtermaster are the perfect examples for this. The Slaughtermaster has everything which the Butcher has + the great Cauldron. Why are they the same points? I have the feeling the person who adjusted the points didn't even really look at the warscrolls before changing anything.

I don't really understand the reasoning behind these changes. All the changes seem so passionless to me. Like someone had to do the job to write the rules, who didn't want to write them or who realised shortly before the Deadline that he had to write a book. 😞

Edit: The Command Traits seem to be pretty interesting to me

  5. I am honestly very disappointed. I try to be not so negative, but everything which GW released for Destruction this year (despite Gloomspite Gitz) seems pretty mediocre rules-wise. They even nerfed our strongest units again. So even our only good unit (Thundertusk) is not worth taking anymore. And even after some of these nerfs they didn't really adjust anything points-wise.

I mean they were so many new battletomes and they often included better rules for most of the models.  But everytime something is released for Destruction it always turns out to be pretty mediocre or bad. 😞

I have honestly expected so much more rules-wise. I still buy the book. But I have the feeling this will be one of the only Destruction releases for a long time. And for me, at least, it seems pretty mediocre.

The adjustments, again, seem like GW only listened to players fighting against BCR instead of the people who really play BCR.

Edit: But maybe I shouldn't been complaining. I have been waiting for a battletome since the beginning of AoS. Maybe there are rule-combinations which turn out to be great, which I don't realize at this moment. But all I have seen seems pretty mediocre to bad. Sorry if I might have been too negative. I know that negativity is not liked in these forums. But I just needed to express my frustration somewhere, because I waited such a long time for this and it hasn't turned out that great.

  6. It seems like you can recharge the Mawpot if it is empty by slaying enemies:

While this consumes the cauldron’s contents, you can recharge the Great Mawpot by slaying nearby enemies. With one of these on your side, your ogors are going to be very hard to shift indeed…

    https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/10/25/rules-preview-new-endless-spells-and-scenerygw-homepage-post-3/

This could also be important for placement. If you place the Mawpot close to an objective (or if the enemies are in range of the refill ability), enemies might consider if they directly attack you, because if they get slain they might risk refilling the Mawpot

Love that the greyish Ogors are back too:

I loved the greenish/grey Ogres back then! These Ogors were one of the reason I started collecting Ogres.

But the thing is that I never accomplished a similar skin tone back then. Does maybe anyone of you Ogor players know how to accomplish this "green/grey" skin tone?

They just replaced it with an allegiance wide mortal wound on the charge ability, monsters add +2 to the dice roll, so effectively you get your mortal wounds on the charge and this new ability.

Jeah I know. But I have the feeling the new ability is still weaker. But maybe I am wrong.

Can someone maybe do the math? Which ability is better? The old instant D6 mortal wound charge or "Trampling Stampede"?

  9. OMT-Oct23-Earth-Shattering3sdg.jpg

Seems like they changed the Earth-Shattering Charge of the Stonehorn. I don't know how I feel about this. I never liked the abilities which add damage to your attacks if you make a successful charge. I didn't like this ability for the Gore-Gruntas and I also don't like it for the Stonehorn. I really liked the D6 damage for a successful charge. 😕

If they deleted the D6 charge for the Stonehorn I have a sad feeling that they also might have removed the 6 damage for the shooting attack of the Thundertusk.

  10. Now two Grand Alliances have completely unique armies with their own aesthetic, which isn't directly tied to Warhammer Fantasy or models from Warhammer Fantasy and which were especially created with AoS in mind.

Order: Kharadron Overlords, Idoneth Deepkin, Stormcast Eternals

    Death: Ossiarch Bonereapers

Most of these armies do not use models from old Warhammer Fantasy. For example Ironjawz and Gloomspite Gitz might be unique, but also expand on models and themes which already existed in Warhammer Fantasy (Black Orcs, Squigs, Trolls)

Maybe Destruction and Chaos will also get a completely new AoS army in the future? With an own identity which isn't tied to the old world?

  11. Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask if anyone has any tips on how to create or buy similar big white mushrooms like the ones presented in the Gloomspite Gitz Battletome.

Or just any tips on how to create or buy cool-looking cave/mushroom terrain.

You can see the mushrooms everywhere in pictures of the Gloomspite Gitz.

Here you can see them in the backround:

My out there theory is zombie/deathrattle ogres will be the new death faction.  The pact of bones that was broken was an agreement not reanimate dead ogres.  This could give death a purely elite focused faction which they currently lack.

This does make sense in some kind of way. And it would explain why some people mentioned mongolian themes in the trailer. And it would be pretty cool if there were undead ogors. There are normal Ogors, Chaos Ogor, so why not Death Ogors?

Maybe the first AoS models which can be build for two different Grand Alliances. 😛 You get a box with different parts and you can choose to build normal Ogors or Death Ogors, depending on which parts you select.

This would be really cool. Ok I might be fantasizing too much. 😄  But the Stonehorn already looks half undead. 😄

And to be fair that's been the case for a lot of factions since last year. Skaven, Seraphon, KO, All the Chaos sides etc... Basically everyone is sitting on that fence line (except poor greenskins who fell off and vanished). It's being in the case of when rather than if with the when being within a reasonable amount of time since 2.0; but rather unreasonable if one counts from when AoS launched.

Jeah. I mean Gutbuster Ogors never had anything since the release of AoS. No new models, no rules rewrites, even no significant points upgrades and adjustments, even though they were really needed. And they did split most of our models into unnecessary sub-factions. For a long time most of our models were even sold on square bases.

I really hope we get a decent battletome and a good upgrade. Maybe also a new Butcher, please? 😄

But it can be obviously be fun especially if you like fielding unconventional forces (as I do) and have nice opponents who are of a similar mindset. I'll probably play more ME games as I regularly play 750-1250 point games already.

I have to say I often like 1200-1250 point games more, because with 1k points I am always missing something or there is something I can't fit in. I still like 1k battles and find them more enjoyable than 2k point battles.

  15. 5 minutes ago, SwampHeart said:

I mean this is why a good game club runs both right? The idea is that you run ME for new players/week night games but you can still build people up to 2k games. You've taken a very binary view to the 2 methods when in fact both can (and realistically should) exist in the same spaces. I far prefer 2k games but that doesn't mean I won't play ME/regular Vanguard games.

The game is a growing process - most people don't dive head first into 2k games. They buy, build, and paint and play games with what they have and continue to add to it. And a lot of people like playing 2k games because they want to play with their toys - its really that simple. People want to use big models like Star Drakes and Nagash and that's not doable at 1k levels.

Jeah. I think this would be the best of both worlds. I don't want 2k to go away. But I just think it would be easier if there is another format for new people to get into.

I just fear that Meeting Engagements might be pushed away from a certain part of the community, because it not the "normal" format. I don't want Meeting Engagements to  replace 2k point battles. But it would be cool if the community embraces the format as a valid alternative to big 2k point battles.

I've painted 2k armies in less than a month to a standard that's gotten me paint nominations (player's choice because its all about pop, but you get the idea). 2k only seems daunting until you've built and painted a few armies and then you can see its really not a difficult process (time wise) to get there in a relatively quick time frame. Money is obviously a bit of a different story but that's the hobby in general.

I genereally agree. Right now I can get an army painted pretty fast. Maybe not a whole army in less than a month. But I also have practiced on a lot of models.

But I was initially talking about someone who is starting the hobby. And for someone who is just starting this hobby, 2k as a "standard" format is incredibly hard to get into.

Other competitive games are easier to get into, because it doesn't take such a huge amount of time to get started. I guess I just do't really understand why 2k is the "standard" or "normal" way to play. Normally in other games the standard format isn't the one which is the hardest to get into.  Often it is the format that is easy to get into, but hard to master.

I think I can't get used to the idea that the "standard" format is a format, where you have to spend 1-2 months painting, spend 200$ -300$ for miniatures and paint just to get into the "standard way to play". I just have to ask why isn't the standard format something like 1k, where you might "only" have to spend 100$-200$ for everything.

This is why I wanted to advocate Meeting Engagements. Because I think it is a good format, where more people can participate than 2k competitive formats. I just think ME is closer to the reality of most Warhammer AoS players, whereas 2k games are only a format for a small selected group of players. But this is coming from someone, who is also driven away from competitive, because of the high barrier of entry. So I can't talk from the same level as most competitive players.

  17. As I said before, me and my gaming group really like ME and we are considering making ME our standard format. Most people I know that play Warhammer or have started Warhammer don't own 2k points armies. Sometimes it es even hard for them to have enough models to play 1k matches. I personally don't understand how a format like 2k could establish itself as the standard format, because it takes so long and it is so hard to get a fully painted 2k army ready.

But I am not a tournament player, so I don't really know about why the 2k format established itself.

I really like to play with less models on the table and it is easier to remember all the rules if you only have a handful of models to play with. And as I said before, the matches we played were pretty even, whereas some 2k point matches I played seem to be already decided by the end of the second turn.

But I am not an experienced tournament player, which is why I don't know if my opinion is valid in any way.

I hope they change the whole aesthetic with the announcement of Season 3 being in Ghur. Two seasons in Shadespire was nice and all, but "Beastgrave" really should not be in blue/purple/teal undead/glass tombs.

Overgrown temples, dried needle woods, boneyards, heavy brown/orange/olive colourpalette would be awesome!

I would also like more Ghur-themed AoS terrain in general. More mountains, caves and bone-structures.
