  1. I think given the sheer scale of the cities it's not even necessary that they all be in one book.

Newer players will no doubt like mixed forces while older players will like rules that correspond to the former armies that now make up CoS.

I think they can both coexist, in the same way LoN and Nighthaunt coexist, or how some battletomes share some units, like beasts of chaos with tzeentch in terms of sharing tzaangor units, or with god-books and slaves to darkness in terms of marked StD units.

Given that we have mixed options already, I would like to see more options for standalone monoracial armies similar to what Har Kuron has recently provided in terms of recombining daughters with former dark elf units.

Hey guys, what would your take be on a AOS tier list currently and why would you rank armies where you rank them?  :)  This is just a fun though exercise, and I'm curious as to what people's opinions are on the current standings of armies.

A normal tier list will inevitably be inaccurate. What we need is a tier list with error bars that show the range of an army - how good it is both at its best and worst relative to other armies.

Lances or halberds for demigryph knights? Thoughts, please?

    Thanks

I'd go lances  - pre CoS you'd be more likely to use demigryphs just as objective holders so you'd go with halberds for the better general weapon coz you're not likely to use them for charging.

Now with CoS, they're substantially killier by default and in combination with with spells + other buffs so they can be a proper charging unit.

freeguild were barely playable factions in their GHB days

Disagree. Great companies were, as the name suggest, great. Can't comment on the others though, and dispossessed were certainly slow.

If you look at this like this, the question "I refuse to use 80% of my options, why do I keep losing" answers itself.

I think there's two noteworthy causes here:

    1. At least initially, people are just getting into CoS using their existing collections; and

    2. CoS was never designed as a cohesive model range. Now sure, a lord arcanum looks great alongside my demigryphs, but ultimately CoS is a mishmash of ranges that without converting can only be combined aesthetically via a common colour scheme and basing etc. Aesthetics and hobby are important to people's enjoyment of the hobby, so I totally understand this reason. I'm a freeguild player so when I want to play CoS I base it around my freeguild units and then I look and what other units complement my units or which rules fit my army theme, and I'll just convert an equivalent unit to represent that. E.g. I'm running tempests eye and in place of skywardens I'll be making some converted freeguild flying infantry.

It wouldn't take much if anything to rebox this as a Battleforce:

To be honest, don't know why GW aren't resurrecting these sets for Cities of Sigmar. Another mystifying decision from Nottingham...

All they'd have to do with this one is swap out the liberators for a general on griffon (and maybe also the castellant if the liberators are the cheap easy to build ones) and switch the old multipart general kit for the general on foot with zwei kit / clampack.

I can’t see cities getting one

I can - there's no freeguild start collecting which is odd since they're the faction on the cover and the other two races received a SC box each.

My bet is on a Hammerhal freeguild box with a General on griffon and demigryphs among other things.

After thinking on all the previews I feel like HallowHeart works best for my army theme.

I am a modeler and haven’t played a game of AoS but I’d like to build a list that works in game as a way to work towards something to use for play.

The army is what I would imagine as a AoS-ified “Araby”. By this it would use a lot magic and uses elementals and djinn. Ideally they would be from Hysh, but for now the HallowHeart rules work.

Ideally I would like to include some combination of the following.

no idea what I’d use as heroes.

White Fire Retinue - Magi council

Flamespyre Phoenix - Fire elemental/ efreet

Froatheart Phoenix - Ice elemental/ efreet

Sisters of the watch - magic/ elemental bows

Phoenix Guard/ blackguard/ or great swords - 2 handed heavy hitter unit

Need some ideas for which  spear or sword shield type could be used for chaff

I’ve also been working on a Djinn for awhile now, kinda settled he would probably best be represented as a celestant prime. So hoping this center piece model could be squeezed in.

The old high elf archers are great for making middle eastern style troops.

  8. Vitriolic spray clearly pairs best with units with a high weight of attacks where you're not paying for extra unnecessary things like rend and whatnot.

On that note I think it'd pair very very well with gyrocopters:

You can get 3 for 180 pts and they get 1 attack per model (from a single unit) within an 8'' radius with their steam guns.

Alright I find with Greywater you either invest in Artillery or Stanks, have both and you kind of lose direction.  If I can make a few suggestions for this list.

Lose the Steam Tank and replace the Volleys for Rockets, I doubt at times the Volley could reach all targets. So that being said you can lose the second Runelord or dedicate him to the big beefy line of Dorfs. Now I wont take anything else but make some suggestions.

Hurricanum is really rather good to stick next to your Irondrakes, To get the most out of that battalion I suggest 4 Artillery pieces and finally you need some speed in this army so either Gyrocopters OR grab a wizard and take the Bridge endless spell, being CoS it's a 24" move and you can get your Hammers right up close.

The soulscream bridge also pairs nicely with the irondrakes coz they can teleport and still get their bonuses for not having moved (or handgunners/crossbowmen/eternal guard etc) (see Core Rules Designers’ Commentary, July 2019 'Reserves') - the teleport doesn't count as a move for the purposes of any other rules or abilities.

So this big chungus was just teased for Warcry, and it's clear based on its name and appearance, that the Fomoroid Crusher is based on the Fomorians of Irish myth; specifically, Balor of the Evil Eye. This may tie into Fimir, although the only similarity is name origin and single eye. I hope this is a relative of the Fimir in one way or another. It appears to be a 60mm base, so he's just a little smaller than a Dankhold Troggoth.

    Post your speculations below.

    I doubt it's related - names don't mean much. I mean the ogroid thaumaturge isn't a ogor.

Even if you buff them to 2+ 2+ with general it still requires 4 units to kill a hero with 6+ save, If you spend 2 CPs to buff 6 units you will be able to kill a 4+ save hero.

Using the mathhammer app 3 long rifles (buffed w/ hurricanum or didn't move + general) (i.e. 3 attacks hitting on 2+, wounding on 2+, rend -1 and dmg 2) will put out an avg damage of 2.778 / turn against a 4+ save, 3.472 damage / turn vs 5+ save, and 4.167 damage / turn vs 6+ save - i.e. will likely kill a 5 wound hero in 2 turns without an issue. That's without considering the rest of the guns,  the stand and shoot etc. I think that's pretty good.

Well, I agree that there is some hero-sniping potential. I will definetely try most of possible arty builds because I have all the models needed except for really spammy variants like 4 hellstorms.

The real hero-sniping potential is in MSU handgunners - the long rifles ignore 'look out sir' now.

Hmm, just decided to check the base recommendations and it shows the crew as separate,  curious GW show them all on the one base though.

The models you're referring to are just showcased conversions - its not like they run this sort of thing before the rules team before they showcase it.

  14. 12 hours ago, Televiper11 said:

Agreed. I could see making a nice, pacy gunline for board control and sniping.

Also, am a reading this right? If I'm charged, I can shoot right away?

Stand and Shoot: As the enemy charge, these warriors make one last shot, praying it will be enough to blunt their advance. Once per turn, when an enemy unit ends a charge move within 3" of this unit and there are no other enemy units within 3" of this unit, this unit can shoot.

Yes they get overwatch. The rules actually allow them to shoot any unit as normal, not just a unit they're charged by.

I'm unsure on the wording of Hammerhals rules, but large units can have several banners, so  you wouldn't necessarily get more command points from going MSU I think.

The wording is not based on number of banners but rather number of units with at least one banner. So you can't take for e.g. 40 freeguild guard with 4 banners and be equivalent to 4 x 10 freeguild guard units, each with a banner. The latter has 4x the chance of benefiting.

Demigryphs are very sturdy, and remembering that they had quite a punch, look relatively strong overall. Only limitation is their base size, which might make it hard to fit more than 3 into a fight. Maybe MSU.

Makes sense to take MSU as well for the sake of hammerhal rules - more banners, more command pts

EDIT: More units w/ at least 1 banner.

Ah, that's too bad. Great companies, I hardly knew ye.

So locked in with this then. More choice in rulesets, none in realms.

I don't know. This is called Cities of Sigmar, not Cities of Sigmar; Aqshy and Ghyran.

Maybe Lethis and Excelsior get a White Dwarf, but seeing as there is no new plastic, I don't expect any commitment from GW.

No, you can only choose Aqshy or Ghyran.

Yeah considering FP lose access to the GHB allegiance ability, we really should have access to any realm artifact-wise
