Age of Sigmar sales as a whole are increasing. Not Dominion. Dominion reached market cap basically upon release. They produced more than they needed. My post was simply an explanation of likely why they did.

They 100% have too many boxes of Dominion especially when many of the options themselves appear in the new starters too at a lower price point.

Warehouse space is the reason to liquidate it I believe. The game is fine; Dominion wasn’t a flop, just a miss. Huge difference financially for a company. We can hope they learn from it, but given GWs desire to push Stormcast as Space Marines it’ll likely happen again. It’s refreshing how many different factions I see in a league or event for AoS, so while GW may continue to miss on these particular boxsets, the health and meta of AoS seems in a good place overall with the rather slow, and disappointing rollout of 3.0. So I feel it can only get better. Health of the game is strong basically.

As to “better than they’ve ever seen” you have to realize how niche GW has actually been until the last half decade and more so the last two years. Indomitus sold more boxes in an hour than Dark Imperium (the previous starter) did in almost 4 years. The best selling box of WFB (6th edition Starter) sold less than 20% than the AoS 2.0 Starter (Soul Wars). This is mostly because of a growth thing. There was almost no chance Dominion was an actual flop. The sheer number of players who buy these things on release would likely propel this box to the top 3 boxes of AoS ever sold even if it was pure garbage. Games Workshop is just simply very popular right now. GW pushed harder than they should on this box. But it should not worry anyone about the game. Discount it. Clear up warehouse space. Move on. It’s exactly what stores do too. I’ve found smaller LGS stores who discounted Indomitus because they had them sitting around after a year. It’s simple economics at this point.

I think probably we just disagree (flop versus miss is a VERY fine distinction, you can see how at scale those approach the exact same thing?), and I have to admit I doubt some of the "insider" knowledge (though I know you don't use that phrase).

I did want to add this one thing- consider your last sentence.  Of course Indomitus is discounted locally by now, but it never was by GW.

I believe the Varanguard thing was a guess based on the original Red Harvest reveal video mentioning them in the song. I think it's more likely that the whole things is just made up than that someone saw this Darkoath guy and though "Yep, that's one of them heavily-armoured horse dudes."

    Could be yeah.

The other part of the rumor with AoS rings true, at least locally where every store (3) I’ve visited has stacks of unsold Dominion boxes with deep discounts. I hesitate to put my local experience as truth, but is interesting to see that rumor now.

Or couldn’t it just be, as is often the case, that someone saw a miniature and misclassified it? I actually had totally blown off that rumor until this model reveal. Seems more likely true now.

  4. Very cool model. If it wasn’t on the Warhammer site and someone showed it to me, I would have no clue it was a Warhammer model.

I guess it fits with AoS as an anything is possible setting, but for some reason it really makes me miss the Old World setting.

I really don't see this as anything but positive. If I'm on ebay, searching for a GW product, I expect to see legitimate GW products. If I want a 3rd party alternative, there are well known quality companies that I use such as CreatureCaster, plus others that have to be careful about the way they advertise them. I think those sites will be safe as most I see also have their own wargame rules, fluff and designs on the sites. They aren't just trading off GW IP.

I hope this also includes them cracking down on people selling recasts of FW products. They at least used to price them low, so you could apply the old "if it seems too good to be true" adage. But I've seen some recent examples where it's clearly recast of an OOP item, going for silly money.

Maybe I'm also bitter about the way GW were forced into now only releasing rules for models that exist. The days of an army book coming out with all sorts of rules for customising and converting your own units to represent units without rules is missed by me.

I think some, but not all, of your bitterness is misplaced.  The lack of options on units really has nothing to do with Chapterhouse and the fallout, and everything to do with GW design philosophy moving to one of controlling choices (or eliminating them).

Am I crazy or did warhammer+ originally say it came with beta access to the app? Assuming I'm remembering correctly than has anyone gotten beta access or is it really that far from launching?

It did say that at one point yes.

  7. The rumors are new Jabberslythe, Minotaurs, and Doombull.

But, I don’t really know how reliable those are. Bob said he just didn’t know. I WANT them to be true. Just those new models would be fine, though I do agree BoC desperately need a couple plastic Hero kits.

The "Stealth Edit" is more GW just updating graphics and media and information so that they don't get legions of questions about it. I do agree a "sorry its not coming this week" would have been nice, but in the end we know what's happening next week and we can see that the schedule graphic has been updated.

That isn't insulting us - its informing us.

Perhaps not in the best way but it is. As for GW slipping dates - its Corona and all related aspects. Global trade is a nightmare right now; shipping anywhere is a pain and there are so many moving parts that one little slip can cause a cascade of delays. Not to mention GW is trying (best they can) to do global launches not just launches in one country. IT might be everything in the UK end is fine, but at the USA there's a shipping delay or such.

In the end content IS coming. Heck don't forget last year 40K 9th edition landed right in the thick of things and still spent several months without their codex either. Actually I think they came in October

The Space Marine codex was released in August.

edit- Was wrong- October release for both!

And no, it is not informing us.  Informing us would be a new post that says hey this is the deal, and we've amended our past news to reflect the new date.  Going back and amending an old article that nobody is reading is 100 percent a CYA move.

It is WELL past time to start expecting GW to act like a business that likes its customers and wants to have anything near a respectful relationship with them.  They act like any news related to their company is a state secret, and it has to be calculated for FOMO.  I am sick of it.  Totally sick of it.

Continually making excuses for a business that we all spend 100s if not 1000s supporting is not the play.

I'm no GW fanboy but these are pretty big claims. Do you have any proof?

Edit to clarify. I'm asking if this is insider information in any capacity or just inference from what we're seeing.

I mean also we will find out in three days.

They mentioned in their last earnings call that they are working on this. The current "downgrade" is to prevent piracy. It was way too easy to get a nice hq full text searchable version of any codex/battletome in minutes, I can understand why they would try to address that.

This is laughable.  I can, and have, copied the paper 40k codexes into my photos via a scanning app.  All GW is doing is royally irritating a lot of people, also ****** themselves out of folks like me who bought both digital and paper version.

    4 minutes ago, HollowHills said:

Here is the situation with the app. The team they have working on it is tiny and split across the AoS app, the 40k app and now the WH+ app. Their priority right now is the launch of WH+ and that is only going to be a success if they make sure the app that hosts it is working. That means all their developers are 100% focused on getting it ready and fixing any issues post launch.

The goal was to release the aos app with the new edition, but they don't have an MVP yet. So what is going to happen is that the aos app in a very basic state is going to "launch" in a free beta version. This means they can excuse all the bugs, lack of working content and options. The app will stay in this "beta" state indefinitely with no work being done on it.

Once they are confident with WH+ they will return back to fixing issues and putting content into the AoS app. It is unlikely to be functional until at least next year.

Sometimes, it is like GW is working against their own success.  Hard carried by their sculptors.

I’m only just painting dominion and there’s no where for me to play locally as my local gw isn’t doing games yet and I cannot drive so books are currently useless to me besides lore

Hopefully the lore will actually still be decent in the new battletomes, it has been gutted in the new codexes.

  12. It remains absolutely ridiculous that in 2021 Games Workshop is moving AWAY from digital publications.  And don't say, "but Warhammer+" because even IF it works, the digital things offered are less than what they already had on the iBookstore or through their own Azyr app.

What does your list look like?  I find a lot of them fill tactical holes you may not have plays into.  Like taking away command abilities defensively with geminids, I think Horrorghast is great offensively for some of our shooting units.  Shards of Valaghar, and Soulsnare Shackles in particular, are starting to look real sweet to me to support my Stoneguard and control those objectives in the middle.

I didn't save any of them, will work on getting some later.  It was mainly lists with big monsters (I include the Wind spirits in that category) that all of a sudden got to weird points levels.  Helon was pretty tough in particular.

Is there something that says unlocked battleline units can't be reinforced twice?

No sorry, what I meant was you end up with small battleline units in that case vs the 10 man options of Wardens (or unlocked Sentinels) so its far more likely you will reinforce them and lose out on being able to reinforce other units.

  15. Just got the book today.

As I start looking at new lists, I am a bit apprehensive about the impact of the new reinforcement rules on Ymetrica and Helon lists that use the unlocked battlelines.  Though, I suppose with the new unit cohesion rules Stoneguard will operate far better in minimum sized units anyway.

Coalition was mentioned in either the GHB or BRB. And it was touched on in one of the Warcom articles.

Its basically the new way that they define situations such as fielding Stormcast in cities or STD/BOC in Chaos armies and vice versa.

All we know so far is that they don't contribute to battleline,  can gain enhancements, and are distinct from Allies. The full info will be in the upcoming faction FAQs.

Wanderers were dropped from Sylvaneth allies for the first time in 5 years (despite Dispossessed remaining) so it def looks like Coalition may be more widely available than just Chaos and Cities.

I did a quick search and saw some discussions about it in the context of the GHB, but nobody seems to really know haha.
