  1. Can’t wait. Y’all did incredible work on the Warhammer Fantasy book.

One thing to consider (with Gloomspite just being released it’s on my mind) is that it might be fun to have careers and options for ‘evil’ factions. Could be interesting to play as a Grot or as an anspiring Varanguard.

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 203

    Thoughts?

That list is so much for someone to cut through! I really like it.  My only hesitation is if the Bounderz are tied up the only other heavy hitter is the Mangler.

I do want to point out that the Squig Herds are a better value at 24 models for 48 wounds than the 40 stabbas. If you are only going for wound numbers.

  3. Alright here is what I've got for a first crack at Squigz V1

    Skragrott- general

Loonboss on Mangler- pipes of doom

Loonboss on Cave Squig- loonstone talisman

    Squig Herd x12

    Squig Herd x6

    Squig Herd x6

    Mangler

    Hoppers x5

    Hoppers x5

    Boingrots x10

    Boingrots x10

    Squig Rider Stampede

    Squigalanche

    Comes in at 1960.

Since Skragrott is my general I am debating the loonboss on mangler.  I could take him out entirely, add another loonboss on cave squig and then increase the size of the hoppers/boingrots/herds (though the herds are just there for battleline).

It's the other way around mate, the 6" pile in (Big Batallion) depends on being under the light of the Moon.  The reroll movement (smaller Batallion) just happens.

That being said I still agree that people are sleeping on how big a deal Skraggrot could be for a Squig army, because the pile in from out of combat thing is massive.

Thanks! The 6 inch pile in is huge, and definitely also mitigates poor rolling on movement.  Combined with the rerolls the movement seems like it actually won't be a huge issue (until I roll double/triple 1s all the time).  Testing the army will tell I suppose.

    Ah that's fair!

I really do want to bring Skragrott but I do realize that the bad moon and him by extension aren't that great f or a squig list.

I don't know, maybe i'm just being really inefficient when it comes to not bringing stabbas and not fully comitting to a squig list.

The battalion bonus letting you re roll the random movement for Squigs under loonshrine is pretty great, and makes Skragrott much more important in a squig list.

Yeah there are a lot of different options you can run for this kind of list.

There are actually only 3 units in the Stampede battalion, which is there to try and get your unit of 20 hoppers across the board and pinning your opponent. It also gives you an extra artefact for the battleplans where it matters.

I think you want at least 1 of both types of Loonboss as they bring different kinds of utility to the army. Having a Squig mounted general makes the Hoppers battleline and they are far better than the squig herds for only 20 points more.

    • You lose 2 wounds but gain a bravery.
    • Squig herds have a chance to Mortal YOU if they flee in your lines
    • Hoppers are way quicker
    • Hoppers do MW when they pass over units during a move.

So you'd rather have Hoppers than Herds if you have the points spare, they act as the first wave in front of your bounders/mangler letting you setup the devastating charges. They also operate as a screen for those more important units.

    • I'm not sure I'd take a second ManglerBoss over just a regular Mangler Squig, it's 60 points for the CA and ****** mooncutta attacks.
    • Wizards are definitely a great addition, squig lure is fantastic!
    • The Colossal Squig is amazing. Especially hilarious with a Loonboss on Giant Squig with the Squig Lure spell. 5d6+3" movement is ridiculous and gives a slightly below average move of 18"

The reason for the Arachnarok+Cauldron is because it's 2 spells a turn on a monster who can keep up with your army, is a wizard and the cauldron gives it access to all the Moonclan Lore spells, including Squig Lure!

If (I have a friend....) we are making an all squig army, I think the squigalanche becomes interesting with the six inch pile in move.  I am having trouble coming up with good wizard options in that type of list (with a mangler hero and a plain mangler).

And it's great book, too! Highly recommend to read it! I have read it maybe 3-4 times and probably re-read again inside a month! (After I read Black Company series again and maybe P.I.Garret series, that should take couple weeks)

You've inspired me to read it again.

If you are on a Glen Cook kick, I just read Passage at Arms and thought it was fantastic.

That's great lore for Warhammer Fantasy Battle and the World that was, but it is not 100% applicable to the Mortal Realms.  Someone reading that now would not know what was true for AoS and what was not. I'm sure it's a great book but i would not read it with the intent of learning anything about the Gloomspite Gitz. The only way to know that something in there is still relevant is if is also in an AoS publication, in which case, why didn't you just read that?

I am not sure what point you are trying to make.  In my post you quoted, I specifically say its about the Old World.

Also, in the absence of lore in AoS, looking to the Old World seems to be better than nothing? That's like saying people couldn't read a novel about Khorne/Nurgle in the Old World and translate some of that to AoS.

I dont think ill use the Squigalanche. Its very random to get off as the badmoon moon must shining on your units to get the 6" pile n, im going to stick with the squig stampede. 1120pts for 40 hoppers and 20 bounders for a total of 120 wounds. Not bad! Now i could skim down the amount of hoppers to just 2 units of 15 and have the bounders as a 15 and that will save me 280pts which is then a mangler squig instead.

Im definitively going to take a colossal squig, 5d6 move and charge under the badmoon or squig lure and then +1 to wound from the Mangler Loon makes it even more of a beast! Just the 8 jaw attacks at 2+ 2+ rend 2 damage d3... mother of zog... 😍 with a 3" range too! getting all hot and bothered haha ;) then birthing 5 lil squigs when he dies, so cool!

*and he also gets the +3 to move from the Loonboss on Giant Squig, someone hold my drink im getting weak in the knees! 🤣

Haha yes we are spoiled for squigs.

The points are going to be tricky though! In that scenario above, you are spending 1120 just for the stampede, plus whatever the stampede costs, then the mandatory 300 for the loonboss on mangler (I assume you will take that vs the giant cave squig) to unlock bouncers as core!

  10. 6 hours ago, Ekrund Oath Splitters said:

For that pts level yeah 3 is the right ratio, you can roam around in a little pack and choose your engagements. With Itchy Nuisance on the target the squigs will charge and the Mangler Boss with Fight another day you can really reliable have fights where you take no damage, ad the best part is his command trait works in your enemies turn to! Can help him nab objectives or bouncy out of line of sight.

In full 2k games i would probably have 2 packs of 2 hoppers and 1 bounders, squeeze in a boogleye too for another strike last spell.

The only problem (I mean having more squig isn't really a problem) to having six units of bounders/hoppers is that it gets quite expensive points wise, and pretty much would freeze you out of using the Squigalanche (where in total I think you need two manglers and one loonboss on mangler in addition to the bouncers).  Unless you go minimum size for a few of those units.

Give her a mushroom bra whilst your at it! Was reading through a thread the other day about people wanting female orruks/orks and i was just imagining them looking like her haha! Even though the whole thread was pointless, greenskins have always been made from spores, in fantasy they arrived by spores attached to the old ones ships and in the DoK battletome it provides some details that some creatures managed to escape the world that was through different means and i think the greenskin race is one of those races that you can never wipe out haha!

Slightly off topic haha! Im currently typing up a 1250pt squig list atm for my LGS campaign league that is starting up, ive gone for the following:

Loonboss on Mangler Squig - General: Fight another day Artifact: Moonface Mommet

    Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig

Fungoid Cave Shaman - Spell: Itchy Nuisance

    10 Squig Hoppers

    10 Squig Hoppers

    10 Squig Bounders

    6 Squig Herd

    6 Squig Herd

    Scrapskuttle's Arachnacauldron

    1250pts

For his once per game second cast i will probably do Squig Lure.

Do you think three units of hoppers/Bounders is the magic number? I was thinking of something similar but with two units of 12 squig herds, then less hoppers.

Hope that doesn't also apply in uk

£9.99 for ebooks is already out of line with other non gw ebooks!

You can probably find out. Just look at the April releases on the BL webpage. Both the Khul novel and the new Steve Parker Deathwatch eBook have the increased price.

It seems like the only buffs they can get that affects there bows are the Bad Moon itself, rerolling 1s to hit. Everything else affects the combat phase, sneaky snufflers, spiker, sporesplatta fanatics, moonface mommet, loonboss command ability. There is nothing else that buffs shooting that i have seen through reviews and videos.

The Shootas will be more durable with immunity to battleshock, the bad moon icon and the possibility of half the unit coming back on a 4+ but its whether you prefer reliabe damage output or durability (in loose gobbo terms). I dont think having shooting is entirely required with all the new styles of play we have. Ive gone full squig haha!

Yeah I don't know that shooting is required either, just feels weird to have none of it.  And yes, squigs are definitely where I am going with the army.

Gitmob Grots are alot better for this, 100pts for 20 gobbos hitting on 4s. Add the normal Gitmob Shaman and they are wound on 4s with a rend of 1. All for 180pts in allies, then if needed add alittle bit of spice with spear chukkas.

Even with the Loonshrine bringing them back to life?

And, do we know all the allegiance buffs possible for Shootas yet? That might make a difference, unless we already know them due to leaks and I just missed the post (very possible).

What do we think about the new shootas? At 130 points for 20 with no discount at full unit, I'm unsure if they're worth it over the cheaper, tankier regular stabbas.

    Thoughts?

What else should we use for the shooting? I've been considering this also, but I think I would take Squig Herds for tanking.

If it had been released 2/6/12 months ago it wouldnt have looked like this. It’s a far more complete release than most were expecting but if GW had bowed to the pressure of the members of the community who wanted it now and couldn’t see why it wasn’t being released immediately etc it wouldn’t have been nearly as exciting or impressive.

I have a hard time thinking you know that as a fact.

People are excited now, would have been just as excited back then. GW is getting pretty responsive to community feedback (see the recent Adeptus Titanicus news), and I don’t think people should be discouraging community expressions of interest in their factions getting love sooner rather than later.

The joy at which people have recieved the Gloomspite release does rather put into perspective the persistent whining that occurrs around the failure of x or y favoured faction or tome to simply materialise at the whim of impatient people and how stupid GW are to be missing out on these sure-fire hot selling items.

As if it wasn’t apparent already, GW know better than anyone else what works and when to do it just now

So you think if this release had been announced two/six/twelve months ago people would have been less happy? Or did I misunderstand.

Arent witch elves on 25mm bases? i have 90 of them and they all came with 25mm bases.

Ha, I just checked the website and looks like yes.

But, the 30 my daughter has all came with 32mm. Weird.

Well that certainly makes them even more pricey haha.

It's really not base size.  Melusai are $5 more, same base. Why? Same # of sprues.    100 bits vs 61 bits? Na.

I think cost is roughly based on # of sprues but also perceived value / what they think they can get for it / market segment.    Even if 5 kits are the same amount of plastic, you want different prices.  Someone goes into the store wanting to spend $x, you need a product are that price. (maybe it's a gift, maybe you have a budget, etc.) They want to get that extra $5 or $10. So line up the 5 kits in order of cool.

Its not exactly base size- but it is a pretty good measurement. Witch Aelves are pretty universally (from what I can tell) regarded as a very expensive unit and they are 60 USD for 10 32mm models.  Can you imagine if these are 100 USD for 10 32mm models?

Whether the price is determined by base size, sprues, perceived value, or the price of tea in China who knows.  But you can usually look at the base size and figure out approximately what the cost will be. I don't know if sprues and perceived value play into base size or vice versa, but the fact remains.

I suppose we will find out soon, but its an interesting discussion to have in the meantime haha.

  20. 3 minutes ago, sorokyl said:

It's obviously 5 per kit bases on the unique poses. The question is, when is the last time they put two kits in one box for a brand new model. The early stormcast come 2 kits per box, but originally they came in smaller boxes? I wasn't around.

They do it with Primaris Marines.

I think this comes down to base size? The Khinerai people are mentioning are on 40mm bases.  If the hoppers are on 40mm bases they could be 50 I suppose.  Khinerai are 45 so it would still be an expensive box though.
