This is not true.
What part of it? Archaon scoring two 6's to wound will definitely kill a target, regardless if it's a monster or mounted or whatever...

Oh and it seems like StD don't have much going for in a Tzeentch list overall. A few exceptions here and there but still..
Besides the Gaunt on Disc and 1 good Endless Spell (can't remember the name), yeah we didn't get much of value... Here's hoping for a February battletome.

Could always run a Marauder block with it - they're still terribly good (just not the best models).

New Gaunt on Disc only costs 200 pts. This is evident within Azyr and Warscroll Builder. Not sure where everyone is getting the 260 from
The Slaves to Darkness battletome that was just released... where the warscroll was completely rewritten and new points assigned.

i wrote a changehost list with the new Gaunt Summoner but not the new endless spell, issue is you need to drop quite a few of your damaging endless spells for the extra 100pts to fit in the Gaunt on Disk and not sure if it's worth it.
Post it!

the one bonus about the new version for the gaunt on disk is that you only need 1 model within 12" to roll for every single model in the unit rather than the current version rolling for every model within 18"
Good point, missed that.
I think the new version is a no brainer with the inclusion of 10 Pinks, even if the killing power of the spell goes down.

I'm probably misremembering, but didn't only the foot one have infernal flames? I thought the disk used to do something else with it's spell which is why almost everyone took the foot version.
You're right, so it's a bonus to even get Infernal Flames - but weirdly it's a nerfed version of it, without changing the old warscroll for the on foot model... which makes me wonder if that is going to get changed as well. With them having the same name, I don't believe you could cast both in the same turn; but updating the foot model's version would really turn the tables and make it so no one will ever play that one in favor of the superior all-around disc.
Edit: I'm not sure if spell name is the determining factor for the 1/turn limit, but perhaps it's just the warscroll itself (and the two being different will allow both versions to be played together efficiently).

The summoner was already amazing at 180. Now he gets a disk and 10 pink horrors for only +80 points And the fires spell while on a disk for extra mobility. Seems excellent.
I see some people trying out 3 gaunt summoners and it being pretty broken......
Infernal Flames getting nerfed to be 5+ and 12" does really hurt the primary function of horde-killer, but I agree that a free 10 pinks can't be understated in a Tzeentch list... 3 spells for 260 points is crazy good.

What do you guys think of the Vortex Beast? I plan on buying a couple for 40k, they looked over costed when they were 200 points, but now they look tempting.
I've used mine in games I wasn't being totally competitive, and honestly they're just not good. A point break is always nice, but 170 is still too much for what they do - they don't hit very hard in melee, and their aura only does damage 50% of the time. The slaughterbrute seems like a better deal for the same price.

as there is no other unit in the game that can mix weapons
Tzaangors and Kairic Acolytes can, just off the top of my head... there are probably several others. It's not a new or even powerful mechanic honestly.

Not outside of a tzeentch army. You need the Tzeentch summoning to be able to make blue horrors from them.
Do you? Isn't the warscroll abilities of Blues/Brimstones independent of the Fate Points summoning of Tzeentch? It's been a while since I looked, but I can't think of anything that says they won't be able to either split into Blues or apply mortal wounds on death.

Any thoughts on Fomorid Crushers and synergy? They seem not overly powerful, but pretty solid all around for 100 points.

My point is that people here are overreacting to The New Thing. Good play still has value.
Racing always comes down to the drivers but that doesn't mean one car isn't just plain faster than the others. Saying "good play still has value" is such an obvious statement - it's clearly the most important thing and always has been.

I mean, can't we at least wait for the initial FAQ before we start the raging?
We shouldn't have to wait for a FAQ to judge a faction that was supposedly playtested and sent into production "balanced". These comments are regarding the state of the army right now on release; if a FAQ or Errata changes that then obviously it will be re-evaluated.

Sequitors have 4+ rerollable saves as well, and get get +1 from a support hero, why are blobs of these guys not steamrolling tournaments?
Because they're 40mm bases with 1" reach and cost 26 points per model (21 with discount), that can't get instantly resurrected?

Damn this thread is pretty dead lately! I've recently come back to playing DoK, and am looking at horror spam (seems to be a common build) - which endless spells to people prefer besides Balewind? Seems like several will be necessary to keep pumping out Fate points; is that a correct analysis?

The more mirror matches you get the closer to 50% your win rate is going to get dragged to (in either direction).
I'm aware; I already covered that in my previous post.
32 minutes ago, tripchimeras said:So I think using just these data points above it is undeterminable which of you is right.
I didn't make any claims about the correlation of play-rate to win%, only Zappgrot did - I'm simply saying that the numbers don't support his random claim... and as a baseless claim it should be ignored.

The more played a faction is the more likely that the win rate is poor.
I just disagree entirely with this statement - look at the current tournament Top 5 in played % and win rate:
1. Stormcast - 45.8%
2. Skaven - 55.9%
3. Khorne - 48.7%
4. FEC - 58.1%
5. Slaanesh - 67.7%

Yup, still a 45% win-rate is solid. (everything around 50% +-5% is solid), everything above needs a nerf
Being the highest played faction and only a 45% winrate is pretty bad; as that table doesn't discount mirror matches. If SCE are the most played it's likely that they play more mirrors than anyone else (or at least the majority), which artifically pushes their winrate towards 50%. If they're still that low with (theoretically) the most "correction" to 50%... they need serious help.
I'm not saying others aren't in worse spots, because they definitely are - but SCE are not "solid" right now.

Well the new Orruk Warclans subfaction ability "Strength of Purpose" really takes him for a ride: "Any ability that negates wounds has no effect on wounds inflicted by a Drakkfoot unit".
Seems like a pretty solid Gotrek and Morathi counter (although that one's a little more muddy).
-
Actually I'm curious on the wording of Avatar vs the Evocator's Celestial Lightning Arc - would each roll of 4+ go through as an independent wound? Or would the total be reduced to just 1? Avatar states "If the damage inflicted by an...ability...is greater than 1, change it to 1". So how is CLA actually resolved?

Is there any FAQ suggesting that?
Not that I know of, but it doesn't need a FAQ. The phase ends once; anything triggering off that occurs. Then full stop.

No, the "end of combat phase" will only trigger once.

The Gaunt Summoner on Disc can, because he has the StD keyword. Not sure how worthwhile it will be, but the potential damage buff for each other endless spell could be really significant.
