  1. On the GW store entry for the handbook it says....

Open War Terrain – presents four different methods of setting terrain up before your games, including an optional terrain generator, and optional rules to provide instructions for where you place terrain on your battlefield.

Are we sure the terrain rules are for matched play?

    Absolutely baffling changes.

Ballista at 110 is probably fine - it is only remotely excessie in multiples of 4.

Evocators and Sequitors going up is expected but also the wrong way of making the other options better. I can't understand why Liberators didn't change or Judicators. Or the  Lord Exorcist.

Liberators at max unit 20 with a max discount would have been nice.  Lots of talk last few pages about Libs over Sequitors, but yeah Judicators (and castigators!) needed a bonus.

Is there a way to purchase the endless spells on the Malign Sorcery box seperatly?

I want to use the cogs for an upcomming tournament, but the book and spell cards are mostly our of date, or will be outdate with the GHB 2019 ( I think) So I do not need them.

Why do you think the book and cards will be out of date?  The GHB will only change the points for spells (not seen any rumour to suggest otherwise) so the Malign Sorcery book still contains a large amount of stuff that can be used such as the endless spell rules, realm spells, realm artefacts, magic themed scenario etc.

  4. Looks awesome.

Have to say though, kinda getting non-plussed of the proliferation of -1 to hit already in AoS so not sure about adding more due to weather.  There will be games where it will be almost impossible to hit once you stack this on top of all the minuses some armies get.

EDIT:  Also, it says on page 4 use the 2020 handbook? 😉

  5. 'Order of the Blood Drenched Rose'?  More like 'Knightly Order of the Blessed Lady'  😁

...those stories about what happened in the last village they visited were totally fabricated, no one got bitten at all 🙄

I'll get my Bretonnian Knights on the table somehow!

If you have 2+ units of Aetherwings, no. Unit A tags the Dragon 2.9" away on the right side. Unit B tags the Dragon 2.9" away on the left side. The Dragon cannot move in such a way that it ends up closer to both units than it already is (oval bases mess with this a bit since they can rotate, however), so it can't make a pile in.

I pointed out this would happen when GW decided 2 models equidistant would pin (rather than the more obvious choice of decide which is closer, like every other time a GW rule has 2 models equidistant).  Everyone went ballistic and claimed you could never measure 2.9", and even if you moved them in place and stated 'these are 2.9" away, ok?'.   So id caution against this strategy or you may have issue with your opponents.

I really want to start a Stormcast Eternals army, but I hate how I can't properly model a Knights Excelsior army since everything has the hammer symbol on them.

Yep, same here for Tempest Lords.  I just went with a slightly fluffed 'the Sacrosanct are guardians in Azyr so have the Azyr hammer symbol because they dont live/stay/hang-out with the rest of the host in their Stormcastle/keep' kind of story.

One worry I have is that the models do not seem to say "customisation" at all to me, and that this will have way too much Underworlds in it to be an enjoyable skirmish game.

I think this is a general GW theme these days, maybe two options at most when you build a model but nothing more.   Warcry does seem to be a 'warband in a box' approach to factions, underworlds style.  We will no doubt find out this week as more is revealed.

  9. Im not sure it will be so far into Necromunda everyone seems to think it will be.  Kill-Team has a campaign for growing your party, and developing skills, a little expansion on that would suit Warcry, you could even use cards to give models advances, like Underworlds but carrying on between games.

People trying to read into what the Facebook page says is like when people claim they know about upcoming releases because a GW store manager told them.

Like store staff, the social media guys don't know much more than we do. Their answers to any question are always 'we'll let you know when we know!' or 'we'll pass that along to the relevant team!'. You can't read any kind of secret knowledge or extra info into their posts.

The social media team know everything that is in development in the main studio, but they cannot share anything not actually announced.  They also need to keep people happy now (irrespective of what they know may/may-not be coming) so their standard response template includes some variation on this 'that's all we know right now. As soon as we have more to announce here, we'll announce it!'.  so you can never read anything into their responses unfortunately.

I hate to say 'I told you so' but... I told you so.

Fleshing out different kinds of Chaos tribes is a cool idea in isolation, but I think when AOS is crying out for a proper Skirmish game, having this be Chaos-only is a mis-step. I'm certainly struggling to have any enthusiasm for it.

It doesn't help that a lot of the models shown are not great IMO. These dudes with old diving helmets on their heads are not my thing at all, and there are too many 'holding weapon in the air' poses.

I think the community team probably agree, based on how many questions they are having to answer saying 'this is what we know, for now!'.

If you look at what they have done for Kill Team, with the initial pack and now the 'competitive' versions, plus all the extras like leaders and elites, then its safe to presume WarCry will go the same way in time.  But im with you, not really enthused about this box based on preview alone. Dont doubt it will get enough support to develop though.

I think it's more when stuff is shared via the official aos Facebook page I take that to mean it has some relation to aos. Yesterday they shared something about a huge preview starting today so I thought we'd get something even if just a "hype" image. For the same reason the daemon engine was slightly irritating in that it was obviously 40k only yet posted on the aos page each day.

Also kill team makes me laugh in a way, it started off as basic troops only, then heroes and now elites. If they add vehicles they'll have a really great battle game on their hands...

Promotional channel used to promote products.  You cant really expect them to not put out sales hype just because whats revealed so far is not the correct game system?  Yeah annoying but they would be derelict in their duty not promoting their new stuff to as many people as possible. We dont even know if AoS isnt coming yet.

GW can't abandon old stuff outright. IT turns away all those customers instantly (they are far less inclined to just buy a new army if their pride and joy just got removed); it discourages others from investing into many other armies and it doesn't do their public relations any good. In short its a lose lose situation. Sure sometimes it has to happen or it will happen because of various outside factors; but each time its never an all round positive experience.

They can and they do. Obviously they wont do so without reason,  but they do not have infinate resource and if predictions suggest investing time into a new faction will yield better sales than a codex or battletome for older stuff, then we see what they do.

If you have evidence of the opposite, share it with them, but im pretty sure they know the score, especially given so many senior staff have graduated to management from shop floor and through numerous other roles. Its the same reason narrative and open exist, despite gamers saying no-one plays it the have significant experience that it is.

Everyone tottally agrees with what you repeatedly say and im sure GW staff dont want to alienate or drive people away (from what is also their passionate hobby dont forget!), but you cant please everyone, and you cant run a business on the wishes of people who dont seem to spend money.

But could it be better with a little more effort? It's hard to keep some people invested in a game if their faction is forgotten about in the fluff and rules. As per my above story on the steam tank, i capped my investment at circa 3k points because my free peoples weren't supported. I was going to be one of those 5k point + players because i wanted everything but i can't justify the spend on an army that may or may not be supported and may or may not get an update.

If all they did was sell toy soldiers there is no way they'd be as successful as they are. People buy into the game and the storyline. Anecdotal evidence counts for nothing I know but in my original gaming group of 8 we've already lost a draw player and a dark elf player because of a lack of support and nothing on the horizon. They stopped at about 1k points.

I also note GW stores in Australia have massively downsized from reasonable stores to shoe boxes. Maybe all is not so rosy in the land down under.

    What would be worse;

No information on what GW is doing with a faction until its released

    or

GW saying they will do something and then doing something else (for whatever reason, choice, financial, legal, market response, etc.) , or doing it in a different way to what the internet has decided they will do despite a level of information provided.

  15. So, general consensus is pricing is for Shadowspear now out the 'autobuy' or 'buy 3!!!' range, especially without a big hardback rulebook included but still has good value for many gamers/collectors/hobbyists.

What do we think this means for AoS?  will we get a set like this for AoS this year, or is it still too close to Soulwars release?  In the past id have said its too close but GW is pumping things out at a rapid pace and im starting to think we might get one this year.

They are not making it clear whether or not it meant to be other humans or other non-human races.  Free Peoples have human and nonhuman elements in them with different factions. I pointed this out when I talk about the stuff in the Grand Alliance Order book on how they talked about the Free Peoples. This changed in the Core Book when they mention Aelves and Duardin as part of the Free Peoples directly.  Yet they basically wrote the Freeguilds in the same manner as the Free Peoples in the Grand Alliance Order book.

The implication is that they are humans, but does not directly say it but the only examples of this are seeing the Empire models. This ambiguity is one of the major problems that I have with the Freeguild as a group. They are shown to be made up of humans, but the background in both Grand Alliance Order and the Core Book don't say it, but the fiction and the models have only shown human elements of the Freeguild.

Its clear Freeguild need an update.  When they outlined who they are they only had empire kits available.  They will come, when? who knows.  Until last month skaven didnt properly reflect their lore, a few months ago grots did not reflect the lore. Change will come but GW works on longer timescales and is a business so cant just pump out stuff that only the hardcore fans want, they have to produce stuff that their figures say will sell.

I cant wait to see what they do with them though, it will be amazing.

  17. Rumour (sort of, its out there but not officially).

The new 40k Shadowspear box will be £105, for 2 mono-pose forces and no big rule book (but 2 codex pamphlets). Fairly big change in pricing structure, but in line with start collecting increases.  Whats next for AoS, and will we see prices rising on more new stuff, or even existing stuff?

I see many people saying thet Companies light skyhooks hits on 3+ and wounds on 4+. What I see EVERYWHERE is that it hits on 4+ and wounds on 3+. I am really confused :/

Where are you seeing this?  do you have a link or quote?

Ive not seen this in any post on here.  You are correct its 4+ (unless aiming at Hero or monster which get +1) and wound on 3+.

What difference would it make if the Gitz has got three weeks? Exactly same models and book etc. Would seeing the same stuff on the web page for one extra week really have excited you anymore than it did for two?  You’re aware if that were the case for every AOS release there would actually have been *less* releases at this point?

Their pacing is better than it ever has been by some distance and by pretty any other margin of product, let alone for one which requires the turn over and pre-planning that this industry demands, it’s frankly exceptional.

Ignore it, there is always someone complaining that one month without a major AoS release is the second ending of the old world and marks GWs final abandonment of fantasy, we've heard the exact same argument every month we havnt had a preview.

  20. How often do people get 'Empower' off onto a large unit of Sequitors (20)?

Played first games with Stormcast at the weekend and couldnt manage my positioning to keep the unit 'wholly' within the Evocators, without significantly reducing the effectiveness of either or both units.  Not having a lot of units on the board i didnt feel i could just leave the Evocators babysitting the Sequitors to try and cast Empower (and hope it wasnt dispelled).

Oh I agree but now we're placing ourselves in the GW's chair. Will selling sets that you play as sold* or will play options be more important to GW? Only time will tell.

So again, totally with you on point 1 & 2. But my comment was in regards to stating it like fact that we will have an one in three ruling. No confirmation on a updated battletome, and GW not following their own precedents is almost a precedent ;)

So i'm not preaching it's not happening, i'm just preaching a bit of caution on stating things that are predictions as facts.

*I mean that you can build all options that you can field from that box.

Isnt it obvious, forgeworld weapon packs :D.

Seriously though, this is probably a long time from now so we neednt worry yet.  There are so many examples of 'broken' rules being fixed in one place but never another.

No, he's not. When Fyreslayers book will be released (or rather if), Doomseeker won't be there as it's currently OOP. Same goes for Excelsior Warpriest (but Darkoath Chieftain is still there, go figure).

The Stormcast Questor also went OOP a few months ago, I know because I was after one and it was removed from the webstore, despite being in the Battletome.  Its back on the store now though, so we dont really know what they will do until its actually done.

EDIT: Ah just seen Klamm mention the deathrunner was not on a separate sprue, so can understand why it was dropped, but Hero's are still possible to return.
