I disagree somewhat here, and the brand new warding revenant refutes a lot of them.

    1) yes, balance will never be achievable, but at the same time, it doesn't always feel like they are even trying that hard. As i mentioned before, cross book comparisons in 15 minutes reveal it to be horribly overcosted. Just look for any other wizard in any other book at a similar price point and this is pretty obvious.

    2) it's a gorgeous new model! They should want to sell it! So making the rules points for it at least playable seems quite important. But they didn't.

I totally agree with you that perfect balance is unachievable. Full stop you are correct. However, BETTER balance is very very easily achievable.

I think GW could learn a lot from MTG actually. Mark rosewater has an awesome series of articles about designing games, balancing them and creating them. They have whole different teams for design and development yo enable this possibility. GW could easily do similar. Or just hire 1-2 more guys to do fulltime playtesting and interbook balancing.

Agree that we should see evidence of better planning and execution in design to improve balance. Fans certainly shouldn't lower their expectations. They have a hell of a beast to tackle and the team do make some pretty random decisions that don't exactly help. The rules team are a bit of an enigma to be honest.

  2. I think the answers pretty simple.

Balance will always be an issue with AOS. There will never be a stable settled point in the mortal realms for everything to fall into place and be tweaked ad infinitum. Why? Because there will always be new releases, and lots of them. And they need to sell them.

Oh, forgot to mention. This doesn't matter, because the game is for the players, just house rule stuff and have fun. I'm afraid the competitive scene will always have some bias in it.

One of these days the Doomdiver or Squig Gobba will be returned to us in glorious plastic...

Back to talking Kruleboyz, my guess would be Gnashtooths as a unit of 3 cavalry. More elite than Boarboyz, less elite than Gore Gruntas. Maybe with some sort of bonus if they attack a unit already in combat with another (like DnD pack tactics).

Squig gobba would definitely fit the aesthetic. Does that still have rules?

If its orruks and not hobgobs on the gnashtooths I think a unit of 3 would work. Otherwise they're going to be expendable chaff.

Quoted to stress this a bit. It's so important. They're modeled after the heroes of classic drama rather than grim dark superman.

I'd love to see the human factions explored, but SCE are not the problem here. Their lore is actually worth its salt.

They suffer from the same problem as space marines, they should be powerful and rare. Awe inspiring. Whispered about in myths and legends. But that doesn't translate well to tabletop.

Oh yeah, they're just practice - this time they'll create black orcs with tiny legs instead so they don't end up running away again :D

I was wondering this. There is something decidedly 'different' about them compared to other greenskinz. I am wondering if there will be some chaos dwarf genetic sorcery experiment origin story for AOS.

I just realized I had missed the last five minutes of the Grim Dark Live stream. Yes, they really said it. They said new Chaos Dwarfs are really coming and they'll have more info on them they will reveal soon. They also said they won't be named that, which is kind of obvious, but still. These guys were completely right about Dominion alongside Whitefang and they're still got rumors in the wild on the new army which we'll see soon enough if they're true. Saying Chaos Dwarfs are actually coming is a pretty big statement to put your reputation on unless you're certain about it.

Chorf bros... is this what hope feels like?

    PRAISE HASHUT!

    Can see it.

    TOW is coming.

Nostalgia hit from remaking Vampire Counts was a success (cursed city controversy not withstanding).

Chaos Dwarf players are the kind of people to lay down the big bucks.

    Why not eh?

As a gitz player the giant Beast-Skewer crossbow makes me super jealous. I have been wanted artillery for so long, it hurt a little seeing the first new greenskin artillery piece going to the boyz and not the gobbos.

Wow that is a shame, I guess the current grots are very much cavern dweller / forest themed so artillery pieces don't fit like they used to. Once the hobgrot khanate empire takes over the plains then maybe we'll see some nice artillery pieces for grots ;)

  8. Agree that hobgrots aren't kruleboyz. I'm not 100% on them. Regular grots like the little familiars and base decor fit better for me. Doesn't mean I don't like them, just not sure they gel with the rest of the faction. I definitely want more troggoths... and cavalry. Rumours are it will be hobgrots on wolves, but I think that's a shame as it would prefer hobgrots got their own khanate empire faction and kruleboyz got their own swamp themed cavalry instead. Will see how it goes. All things may come to pass eventually.

I wonder if we will get a unit of Grot's with the Kruleboyz? Non-hob ones.

Kinda on the fence about it actually. On balance I think I would prefer just the odd Grot here and there in Kruleboyz and full units stay part of Gloomspite.

I think we will see more hobgob units whilst standard grots will continue to be used as familiar-like characters and base decorations. I wouldn't mind more troggoths to be part of the faction.

I put this up in the rumour thread but it went almost unnoticed. This looks like it might be smaller gnashtooth circled

Not my work, so kudos to the unknown creator but I now believe that the Lord-Impertinent got his title from calling Sigmar 'Dave'

"Yep, got a medal from Sigmar for saving Azyr money... I've been using the exact same hammer for 400 years."

    "The same hammer?!"

"Yep. Maintained it myself, still as good as new. This hammers had 200 new heads and 170 new handles in its time."

"How is that the same bloody hammer?!"

  12. Yes. Naysayers be damned. These are not "boring" orcs. These are highly detailed plastic GW AOS Kruleboyz(tm)!!!! They are awesome and they make me want to buy this box all by themselves. Stormcast can go in the bin or be traded for a mad lad riding a troggoth!!!

Basically when AoS was being leaked months before it was an announced thing, one of the bits of information was that all AoS armies would be smaller, limited time releases, in an effort to appeal to the New Army Syndrome impulse buyers (you know how every new army reveal has the slue of "OMG RIP MY WALLET!" and "I wasn't going to start an X army but now I want to!" reactions?) Whilst GW has seemingly moved away from this plan, arguably the initial releases of Fyreslayers and the self-contained Stormcast chambers supports this.

So are we saying this is going to be a thing now? Or it was but it no longer is?

the rumour was that you will get armies and those will be available to purchase only for a limited time basically forced scarcity - that idea would have to begin in GW in like 2013-14 so honestly I can see it.

    I still don't understand this?

If I was forced to make a bet on it, I would say that Kragnos will be the leader of the destruction faction that is coming in the 3rd edition starter box which may be Hobgloblinesque.

Personally I hope they are a bit more exotic. I would love a new Kurnothi army or a silent people army.

The other big question is whether Broken Realms 4 is the last in the series. I really hope we get at least one more.

Legion of Azgor bull centaur god with hobgoblin worshipers?
