I've only just noticed that the harbinger has the 'daemon' key word. Is this a miss print? I've never noticed this before 😭

It's not a misprint and it lets him carry the Witherstave, which is a great artifact.

So I've decided I'm going to attend a tournament this year. More for sh*ts and gigs than anything else. I'm very much a casual player but thought it would be good to get some games in with people outside my usual group.

To that end I want a half decent list so I don't leave completely deflated and hating my hobby 🤣

SO my question is which of the Cyst battalions are a best all rounder in the competetive scene? I know the befoulment battalion is currently scene as our best battalion but 1) i don't want to buy/paint another 2 GUOs 2) I do t want to be that guy and would rather bring an all round list that both me and my opponent enjoy playing. Hence the choice of Cyst battalion.

I'm leaning more towards the plague cyst as rerolling all misses within 7" of the Lord of plagues seems like it could help ALOT more than the +1 rend.

    What's people's thoughts on this?

Also if any members on here can recommend a good 1 day event in the north east of UK that would be much appriciated as well :)

I use Blight Cyst because the rend IS amazing.  When you roll hot and get a handful of 6s and lay down a bunch of -1 rend wounds, you can kill anything.

  3. So, what is considered the most "competitive" Nurgle army?

I mostly play a blight cyst as the core of my army.  Lately I've been using chaos knights as well.  I don't play highly competitively, but I'm going to a GT later this year and might want to move my army building/painting in a more competitive direction.

After ALOT of to-ing and fro-ing I think I've decided on the following list. This will be my painting goal, for the next 12 months as I don't get too much time to paint these days.

With a bit of luck I will be able to finish it sooner. But 12 months for me is a realistic target ?

Anything you more experienced players would recommend me changing would be greatly appreciated!

    Allegiance: Nurgle

    Leaders
    The Glottkin (420)
    - Lore of Malignance: Blades of Putrefaction
    Poxbringer Herald of Nurgle (120)
    - General
    - Artefact: The Witherstave
    - Lore of Virulence: Favoured Poxes
    Gutrot Spume (140)

    Battleline
    30 x Plaguebearers (320)
    10 x Putrid Blightkings (320)
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)

    Units
    3 x Plague Drones (200)
    3 x Nurglings (100)

    Total: 1940 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 167

Idea with the list is the plague bearers hold any main objective needed or tarpit enemy units (especially after being buffed by the big guy) Nurglings are to get additional contagion points or act as a road block.  Gutrot and a unit of kings will flank to disrupt enemy or capture objectives and the other units of kings to attack where needed. Drones will be deployed to target characters and small units that the can easily roll over.

As mentioned previously any help would be greatly appreciated :)

can't wait to start painting and playing now!

Honestly I would choose a Lord of Blights over Gutrot since you have the 30 plaguebearers.

This would also give you the option to drop the plague drones and use Blight Cyst when you feel like it.

  5. True.   I'm not disputing that the war mammoth is cool.   But either one is capable of getting in on turn 1.  The blight kings are a little dicier though with the lower move.  I pulled off a first turn charge with 41 wounds of blight kings last game, with the Witherstave behind them,  and it was wonderful.  Dont forget the amount of space you can take up with that unit.  I tied up 75% of a khorne army for 2.5 turns (and killed most of them in the process).

  6. Blight Kings aren't that slow.  Set the wheel to +2" move, be near a GUO with a bell for +3", spend an extra CP to run 7" (sonorous tocsin gives +1) and you are moving 16" on turn 1.  Slingshot off a feculant gnarlmaw to charge (at +1" from the sonorous tocsin).

After thinking about it today I have to agree.  Blightkings are strong, but relying on just their exploding 6s that are easily countered (geminids) and rerolling into them just isn't effective.  Going to give blight cyst a try this week.

Try the Witherstave on your Harbinger of Decay.   That might help against the Witch Aelves attacks.  It also helps against anything that wants to roll 6s to hit.
