  1. My FLGS is doing an escalation league soon, with the following restrictions:

    Week 1 (750): 0-1 Leaders, 1+ Battleline, 0-1 Artillery, 0-1 Behemoth
    Week 2 (750): 0-2 Leaders, 2+ Battleline, 0-1 Artillery, 0-2 Behemoth
    Week 3 (1250): 0-3 Leaders, 2+ Battleline, 0-2 Artillery, 0-3 Behemoth
    Week 4 (1250): 0-4 Leaders, 3+ Battleline, 0-2 Artillery, 0-3 Behemoth
    Week 5 (1750): 0-5 Leaders, 3+ Battleline, 0-3 Artillery, 0-3 Behemoth
    Week 6 (2000): 0-6 Leaders, 3+ Battleline, 0-4 Artillery, 0-4 Behemoth

I want to play my FEC but the first two weeks are really hard for me to figure out what to bring since the mounted king is so expensive, but I'm sure at least one person is going to bring monsters so just taking ghouls is going to do nothing.  Also, the fact that week 2 is the same but you need a second Battleline choice so I'm trying to come up with something that can last for both weeks.

Any tips or suggestions?  It's a newbie-friendly escalation league but the people who are playing seem to be of the more competitive mindset so I'm expecting a few really nasty lists the first couple of weeks.

  2. I am of the mindset that the Gristlegore Monster Mash is too gimmicky.  There are armies that will shut it down (new Fyreslayers spring to mind) and you're basically putting all your eggs in one basket.  I did like the Gristlegore Ghoul Patrol list though that didn't go monster mash that's floating around occasionally (it's like two kings on monsters, Archregent, 40/10/10 or something ghouls, Ghoul Patrol).  Personally, I like Hollowmourne and Blisterskin because I really enjoy Flayers and Horrors.  Feast Day does seem really good but I have hangups on making a courtier the general, sadly.

  3. I am curious what is the verdict on Blight Cyst?  I know before it was considered a go-to battalion but lately, I've seen the opinion that it's not as good as it first appears; it certainly is expensive.  What are the good Maggotkin lists using now?  Is it still mostly Blightkings with a block of Plaguebearers?  Plague Monk spam (so not really Nurgle at all)?  Daemons?  What has been working?

  4. I think since they can go over the starting size, 20 might be the ideal size for Ghoul Patrol if they aren't going to be in enemy territory; that should give you at least one turn of adding a few more ghouls to it and thus alleviate the biggest issue with 20 ghouls: at exactly 20 if you lose one you also lose Battalion Strength.

  5. I tried this list last week against a friend's Blades of Khorne.  It didn't work nearly as well as I thought; his units easily mulched through everything other than the 30 ghouls (which I kept bringing back due to 2x Ghast Courtiers and sometimes a Varghulf bringing the slain back):

    Delusion: Crusading Army

    Ghoul King on Terrogheist
    - General
    - Dark Wizardry
    - The Grim Garland
    Crypt Haunter Courtier
    Varghulf Courtier
    - The Flayed Pennant
    Crypt Ghast Courtier
    Crypt Ghast Courtier
    30x Crypt Ghouls
    10x Crypt Ghouls
    10x Crypt Ghouls
    6x Crypt Horrors
    3x Crypt Horrors
    Attendants At Court

He took a Murderhost (like 30 bloodletters and 2x5 hounds and Skulltaker) and  Brass Stampede (3x3 Skullcrushers and Juggerlord) with a couple heroes so moved across the board really fast (was able to charge turn 1).  I wasn't doing too bad on attrition but conceded top of 4 after he got 8 blood tithe points to summon a Bloodthirster.  I did really enjoy being able to summon two units of Horrors on a flank though.

The biggest problem for me is still that everything in the army hits pretty weak, and has such poor saves that they die to a stiff breeze.  I'm thinking the 2x10 ghouls was a mistake, as they didn't do anything but provide free tithes to my opponent.

  6. Fellow monarchs!  The latest FAQ clarifies that:

    1) Majestic Horror does let you use the summoning twice

    2) Ghoul Patrol's replenish lets you go over the starting size

    3) Ghoul Patrol is now set up any unit in reserve instead of being required to set up all units in reserve.

Links are on the community page's FAQ section.

@wayniac I will listen to video and maybe give plague cyst some more testing. Thanks for the link. Agreed on horticulous. He just does everything well except move fast. But he is a snail so.. lol

Do they talk about blessed sons at all? It’s a big battalion cost but for 100 points it’s good. Mystic shield on all units, artifact and cp for 100...

No, the entire video is basically math between PLague Cyst vs. Blight Cyst.

  8. Here is the video:

His points seem valid enough.  That said though I'd really like to have the Harbinger of Decay (I love that model) but can't find the points for him; dropping the Lord of Blights puts me 20 points over, and I think Horticulous is too good to get rid of.

  9. I watched a Youtube video mathing out the Plague Cyst vs. Blight Cyst, and it was showing that the Plague Cyst maths out to being better, at the cost of the fact your Lord of Plagues needs to be alive and near the Blightkinsg to benefit, while the Blight Cyst is across the board regardless.  Has anyone given PLague Cyst a shot?  I'm thinking of what to finish building out to really get my Maggotkin started.  I currently have:

    10 Blightkings
Lord of Plagues (technically two of them)
    Lord of Blights
    30 Plaguebearers
    Poxbringer
    Spoilpox Scrivener
    Horticulos Slimux
    Morbidex Twiceborn
    1 Feculent Gnarlmaw
    6 Nurglings
    3 Plague Drones

I'm thinking of running something like:

    Allegiance: Nurgle
    Horticulous Slimux (220)
    Great Unclean One (340)
    Lord of Plagues (140)
    30 x Plaguebearers (320)
    10 x Putrid Blightkings (320)
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
    Plague Cyst (200)

    Total: 1860 / 2000
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 141

This leaves me 140 points.  Thinking a Lord of Blights so I have the option to put Plague Flies on the Plaguebearers when they reach combat; a -2 to hit in combat seems like it would make them an amazing tarpit.

Any suggestions?  Also about how many Gnarlmaws should I have?  3?

Flayers doesn't loose their mortal wounds on -1 to hit

It's a mortal wound on a 6 to hit, right?  So a -1 would, unless something changed in the rules for 2.0, be applied after the roll of a 6, changing it to a 5, and therefore not causing the mortal wound.

Or it is a 6 to wound, I forget and don't have my battletome handy.  In which case you are right, a -1 to hit would not affect it.

  11. My FEC has been my major army since I started AOS.  I felt they were incredibly weak before, and the traits in GH2017 felt more like being thrown a bone.  The changes in 2.0 seem like the army improved (but it was hard to be worse) but I can't help but feel it's still far from good.  Majestic Horror is the best trait, but that restricts you to a Ghoul King as general, meaning that you only have Ghouls as battleline.  Free summons are good, even if 1/game, but I still feel like the army lacks stability and hitting power.  My games in 1.0 showed that even a block of 30 ghouls backed with 2 Crypt Ghast Courtiers could get absolutely destroyed by anything that puts out lots of attacks (which is plenty of things now).  The overall lack of rend in the entire army.

I have yet to think of any lists for 2.0, so I'm curious what my fellow noble monarchs come up with.

  12. I am really really hoping that Portents doesn't turn out to be hot air.  I know people are already super hyped, but with the lack of any real information I am getting a sinking feeling that it's going to be a huge disappointment simply because without anything concrete people have formed their own wishlist of what it's going to be.  I think there has to be a new Death tome, faction, models or all three or people are going to essentially riot.  Like, if it turns out to just be a campaign and 4 heralds, people are going to be really upset no matter how good it is, because we've had all these teasers and not one thing that has had any substance whatsoever.  The fact the new Maggotkin tome has the malign portents AOS logo makes me think this might be something that goes on for the entire year; like all of the AOS releases this year will be a part of the new "age" of Age of Sigmar.

  13. FWIW shadespire seems to be targeted at the quasi-miniature games like X-Wing.  From the images it seems to be closer to X-Wing.  it will be interesting to see just how "competitive focused" it is, since that usually entails really ironclad rules, very tight balance, and frequent changes to respond to the meta, all things that GW isn't exactly known for in the wargaming world.  So it will be interesting to see how the rules are for it.

  14. I ordered the Warlord Edition and the Open War cards.  I was telling my friends I might just always default to using Open War cards for a game; my group tends to forget/not care about scenarios and just play kill point games (either using the 40k style of "1 unit = 1 point" or like just until somebody is tabled/concedes) so I hope the Open War cards add some variety to those.

  15. Was the Thunderers change the only warscroll update?  I was hoping we'd see more frequent changes due to the fact Warscrolls are free PDFs and available for free in the app.  It could be a great way for GW to adjust things beyond just tweaking points.  IMHO they are missing the main benefit of free scrolls; that being you can update them as often as necessary to bring things back in line with how you intend and adjust things that are too weak/too strong where it really counts.

If this is what they have in mind as Nurgle release, i am ****** mad.

No mortals, no battletome, no allegiance? Are u joking?

Uhh.. we don't know what's coming yet.  It's likely going to be a Battletome, not sure of mortals though.  This is presumably the new campaign.

GW introduces points as an annual update (stating upon release of the first GHB that it would be an annual publication). People get excited.

Certain builds show themselves as very strong over the course of the year. People get angry and demand points updates.

GW updates points midyear for certain armies (Khorne, Stormcast) with publication of new battletomes. People get angry and/or excited, depending upon the unit.

Basically, we as gamers are very spoiled. GW, on the other hand, is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Their plan seems to be to update points as they find it necessary. My personal plan is to accept the points updates when they come -- since it is after all just one of three ways to play the game.

1/3 that affects like 90% of the game, but in actuality I agree.  I'd rather have them address things faster than slower, when all is said and done.  I'd like to see them adjust as quickly as they are doing for 40k, actually, although there too I dislike that sweeping changes to Matched Play to help tournament balance trickle down to affecting every Matched Play game; IMHO they should have added a 4th way to play, "Tournament Play", that was a stricter subset of Matched Play, just so they could adjust things for tournaments and not have it affect all Matched Play games, since that's the most popular style.  But keeping your "competitive" style different than "I want balanced points" means you can draw a line between the two, since sometimes you want changes that help tournaments, but don't want them to affect non-tournament games; by just modifying matched play, this doesn't happen as any change to matched play affects ALL matched play games, competitive or otherwise, when often the changes come as a result of seeing something at a tournament.  It's as though GW feels that the only time you ever use matched play is when you're in a tournament-type environment (and when you aren't you use open/narrative), when this is generally not at all the case.

Still no further details/pictures/price on special edition of GHB 2017?

"For the truly dedicated, the Warlords Edition of the General’s Handbook is packed with extras that’ll help you with your games. As well as cards for every Battleplan in the book, you’ll be able to get your hands on turn trackers, tokens and more – you’ll be perfectly equipped for a new age of gaming in the Mortal Realms."

I'm curious about this as well.  If it's not absolutely stupid priced (given that the regular book is cheaper than most other books) it might be worth picking up.  But if it's like the typical $200 or more then no way.  Say if it's about the price of the 40k rulebook, even the old 40k rulebook, I might be willing to get it just for those extras.
