Anyway I am curious what this means for Beasts of Chaos, as they are in the same position as the High and Wood elves stuff. They also have an entry in the Old World factions. That said Dwarves are also in TOW, but they stay in AoS. Bizar.

A safe bet for any future purchases for AOS would be to make sure they are not old fantasy models. In theory all of them will be cut from Age of Sigmar at some point. And as GW said you can play them in Old Worlds or proxy.

Of course just based off of what is staying vs leaving right now Cities this process will take several more years.

Feeling kind of miffed right now. I love TGA and generally people are normally enthusiastic for new models for factions that aren't there own.

But kind of sad that people seem to be celebrating loss if miniatures I like, and calling for others I like to go next ☹️

Grump over. Bring on the cannon preview. And the floating rock war alter.

Cities is that weird army that gets a lot of aggro with a lot of people thinking it was placeholder and just way to shut up the Fantasy fans until the Old World came out. I got into Cities about a year ago and even the GW store owner said don't do it Cities is not a real faction lol.

And today was the first step to proving them right. Hopefully GW commits to keeping different races in the faction and we have the orges as a good sign that they may.

  3. Conversion or proxy ideas (any advice or ideas welcome lol):

    • Freeguild general
      1. Freeguild Marshal comes with 3 weapon options so one of those should work.
    • crossbowmen/handgunners/freeguild
      1. Steelhelms depending on how many extra bits.
      2. I already mix them with Dwarfs for a mix unit and they look pretty good together.
      3. Pirates come with a lot of extra bits, have both melee and range options, and pretty sure they are mixed race crew in the lore.
    • volley gun/helstorm
      1. Maybe if you got several you could throw two or three together on a big base to equal the new big cannon lol..... this one is not easy and you would need a spare base of the right size.
    • pistoliers/outriders
      1. Dark riders/darkespawn knights. I like the mixed units look, but may not be everyone's taste.
      2. Freeguild Cavaliers seem to have a lot of extra bits so maybe a bit of kitbashing will be easy
      3. Still may get something new ?????
    • freeguild greaswords
      1. Mix with other races like hammeres or executioners.
      2. Pretty sure we are getting a new version of this so hype!
    • demigryph knight
      1. ..................................................................... i got nothing lol
      2. maybe a new model yet to be revealed!!!
    • phoenix
      1.  dragon or griffin
    • phoenix guard and wood elves
      1. Double them up with the dark elves.
      2. If you feeling spicy can try to mix them with extra steelhelms weapons to give them a more unique freeguild look.
    • sisters of the thorn/wild riders
      1. Dark riders/darkespawn knights
      2. Once again the new Freeguild Cavaliers seem to have a lot of extra bits and I could see some quick kitbashing to have some very unique freeguild units.
    • Noble Prince/Anointed
      1. Mages seem like the easy answer and no change required. They look like they can do magic lol
    • Shadow Warriors/ Sisters
      1. Mix and match with other non human units like pirates and dwarfs who both have melee and range options.
      2. Steelhelms spare bits kitbashing, which I hope they come with a lot of spare bits to do this.

Really tried to keep it simple with the only mix and match being heads and arms. GW going with analogues is really cool concept and hopefully they keep doing that for the faction!

And if you rather keep your models as is using them in your Dungeon and Dragon games really work out great................... Especially if you stuck as the forever DM.......

Its still shocking to me that wanderers are going, but the flagellants and battle wizards are staying (without resculpts).
IMO wanderers were the best looking models in the entire cities of sigmar range before this release.
Years of abysmal rules probably have a big impact on sales though.
Edit: Griffon staying, with the new manticore, while demigryphs leaving is also a wierd choice.

Most likely they will get replaced as well. This really feels like a first wave and was a bit limited on what was cut/replaced. Seems like we will get more magic, religious, and steampunk stuff down the line.

As for the non human stuff I am not sure. Dark elves most likely safe until/if we get Malerion/shadow elves. Not sure what would replace pirates if Deepkin was not the answer? Dwarfs feel the safest out of what is left?

Really depends on if GW wants normal looking stuff back in Old World and Sigmar being the game with every faction looks crazy and extreme?

Do you guys have any idea as what I could use the Shadow Warriors?

Top pick right now would Freeguild Steelhelms. Just cut off the bow and boom (or keep it lol). If we are lucky they will have spare shields and sigmar bits to use on them as well.

Most elves double up so its not too bad right there.

Only the Demigryph Knights seem to be the problem child.

That has been a problem with the Cities battltome from the start, just a lot of redundant warscrolls that fill more or less the same role. Even more so if you consider coalition units. Let's see if the new orders system does anything to differentiate the different units a bit more. There seem to be dedicated human, dwarf and elf orders.

What are the odds that they have little to no change to the non human stuff and they are still redundant lol?

The faction will still need several waves with stuff like the tank and mages staying around. Really hope they will do a non human wave or two, but GW track record for that is kind of meh................

  7. 5 hours ago, Ganigumo said:

There's no way all of those things are leaving CoS and they still have 54 warscrolls. Freeguild are clearly getting updated, and I imagine ironweld arsenal are as well. Maybe wanderers or Phoenix temple could disappear but I doubt both would. We're already at like 7 kits revealed? With at least 3 more by my estimation, but probably closer to 5, which takes the release to 10-12 kits, which is a very large release by AoS standards isn't it? cutting out more would need to push it to like 15+ kits

My theory is the six Cursed City models are part of that 54 and that is messing up the count. Small chance I know, but they were mentioned in one of the very first Cities of Sigmar articles.

The rumors we have suggest that both wood elves and high elves get the full purge and by themselves count for 12 units lost. The pics we got of tokens and whatnot support that for now.

Everything else we are not sure if every model is being removed. Ironweld and mages seem to somewhat intact with units like the steamtank rumored to be carried over.

I would like to think that the Demigryph Knights make it as well, but that is most likely a pipe dream lol.

I'm not sure I can put it into words exactly but I think I'd be pretty dissapointed if Malerion's forces just ended up being AoS Dark Elves. I feel like the nature of Ulgu opens up some really interesting space to do something truly wierd and extremely AoS-ey (for lack of a better term).

What you do with the Dark Elf factions in Cities, keeping them would be the preference, preferably with nicer models, particualrly for Executioners whoare just worse looking models than the metal versions they replaced.

My pessimistic take would be that in a few years Cities will be the same situation as Tau where the lore is muti race, but on the table it is mostly humans.

On the bright side they have at least one new race shown off (which is already halfway there to passing Tau up on the diversity quota lol). Also GW purging of the older models seems to be very slow process since this wave we have heard rumors of some human models staying in the (steamtank and mage).

Hell we been getting rumors of shadow elves, but who knows how long that could take to come out? Dwarfs and pirates will most likely stay in the faction for years to come.

If I remember correctly, Whitefang recently liked a post which said that there was no longer any point in GW leaving wanderers/phoenix Temple while Sylvaneth/Lumineth exists in parallel...

It was my theory post that Cities is a stand in army and all the redundant units will be cut when they have replacements in other factions.

No way to tell if it is true or not until we either get those rumored dark elves or some kind of new dwarfs.

  10. Was curious and went thought the pieces that they teased. After a quick game of Where's Waldo most of them have been revealed already. The only big one left being that two handed axe, that skull one, and the shields/axes (most likely an alt for the cavalry and infantry).

A lot belonged to the cavalry and I would not be surprised that most of the remaining stuff would also be options for them. We know they have the big cannon rumored. So it will be interesting to see how much they have left for the faction.

  11. I do wonder if we will gets hints of what they plan on doing in 4th ed. Like will they allow us to attach heroes to the units? Or if magic will be put into the units with the plan to remove the magic phase. Know some of the new Stormcast has a bit of a hint they were going in that direction.

  12. Man that Helon change. Makes me wonder how bad a hit Lumineth will take in their win rate since those double shots were really carrying the army.

Wardens really need to come down in points or to get something.

Sorry my (admittedly very knee ******) reaction was more about fyreslayers than lumineth. I play both and I get why the lumineth units that got reductions got them. Not to mention the last 1500 point lumineth list I used just dropped by 70 points so I’m not about to argue with it!

I expect fyreslayers will be alright in the end, they’re quite a robust army. But given the amount they’ve lost from the last ghb (no Galletian veterans, look out sir’s new rules aren’t quite as good as not being targetable at all) seeing only point increases was a big oof from me.

I feel for your fyreslayers and hope them the best. My friend I play against loves taking his Death factions and seeing stuff like zombies only go up by 5 points is so triggering.

At least I can hope that my Cities come out as broken as the last few factions lol.....

  14. 2 hours ago, Azamar said:

Some of the point changes are bonkers. I don’t usually like to complain without trying things first, but who on earth though it was a good idea to drop points on most lumineth units, whilst handing only only point increases to fyreslayers, right as we go into a ghb period that favours wizards?

Most of Lumineth are in a really bad spot outside of that one Teclis shooting list nobody likes.

Not even sure if the point changes are enough to really do anything (they seem meh)? Maybe the book will help with that, but not sure. Some factions are just broken and will have to just hold out for the new edition next year.

  15. 23 minutes ago, novakai said:

Demigryphs are monsterous cav and on different base size compare to the new cavaliers (they probably more of a replacement for the long gone Empire knights).

while baring any new unrevealed kits, they would still have a role in cities as their isn’t a unit similar to them but I pretty sure every old empire kits is on the table of being possibly cut.

See that is one of the units I give pause on. I really thought that GW was cutting a lot bigger chunk from the faction, but it seems like units from Iornweld and collegiate arcane will still be around.

At some point GW will remove all their old units, but it seems like it will take a few more years for that to happen.

The Demigryps is still a pretty good model so I could see it surviving for a bit longer.

    61. Helstorm rocket battery

I personally count  around 69 warscrolls, but I'm throwing in hexbane and the six solos from cursed city.

That would be a loss of around 15 warscrolls. 12 or 13 of those will the whole wood and high elf line.

We don't know how many new units we are getting, but it is interesting to see if either we are getting a lot more or they did not cut as much as everyone thought.

  17. 8 minutes ago, novakai said:

i mean it could be similar to the Firstborn marine situation where it a slow culling then doing it in one go.

i still of the opinion that eventually those old fantasy models will be gone eventually and not everything will be replace one for one or be in cities of sigmar by the end of it (wanderers rebranding to Kurnothi and being part of Sylvaneth)

    8 minutes ago, Hollow said:

I for one was hoping for an almost complete cut of all Old World Models from the line.

If we are being honest it will probably be a slow cutting of all the old models from the faction.

Cities was a placeholder like a lot of people said. I just don't think anybody realized how many years it was gonna take before GW finally get to every unit. In theory dark elves could be next, but who knows when that faction will come out?

it isnt 8, you are forgetting that new kits are new warcrolls also.

so per example the new weird ogre thing is a new scroll that dont replace nothing old,so if we add this new scroll one old scroll must be deleted.

citys gonna get cut 8 scrolls yes,but in truth gonna be 8+ the new warscrolls that dont replace old scrolls.

per example if we get other 5 new kits with new scrolls that gonna be 5 old scrolls removed in top of the 8

i dont know if i am explaining it well.

we had 62 old scrolls before now gonna have in total 54 but of these only (random number here) 30 are old scrolls and then 24 are the new humans scrolls.

so in total we got 32 scrolls removed and not 8

the numbers are random but i dont know if you get my point

Oh it's all good  and i get what you are saying lol.

I know it's a lot more being cut, but I was not counting the human stuff since I figured it was all gone anyway........

And it's really 69 warscrolls with the 6 cursed city models and 1 hexbane unit. So a net loss of 15 units for the faction.

So the question I think now is are we getting a lot of new units to cover for everything getting cut or the non human cuts are not as bad as we feared?

  19. 18 minutes ago, Boingrot Bouncer said:

However, since there is new units that mean more then 8 units must be taken away from CoS.

All old human stuff, wood elves, high elves, and some of the ironweld were thought to be on the copping block. The fact that they have so many unit still in the faction is pretty good sign for a lot of the non human stuff staying in.

Of course counting the other game models would get us to 69 (nice) units so that would the real cut number would be around 15.

  20. 2 hours ago, novakai said:

Apparently there 54 warscroll compare to the current 62 so something did get cut depending on how new units factors in to that number

8 is an interesting number since that does not really cover everything we thought would be cut. Wood and high elves have 12 warscrolls right now.

Of course the 6 modles from cursed city and a lot of other factors can really mess up the count so it should be interesting.

  21. The image reminds me of a rumor long ago that the start collecting boxes were the main non human things  staying.

Pirates and dwarfs now look safe (like the rumors have been saying) while wookd and high elves seem to be gone (once again rumors). Dark elves will be interesting to see how much get cut.

I'm a bit iffy on the dark aelf stuff, but we haven't really had anything on them so...

Personal theory is that they will remove units from Cities as long as they have a good replacement somewhere. Why play high elves and wood elves if you have Lumineth and Sylvaneth? Throw in the Old World as well since it seems like they really want that game to be where all the old models go.

Will have to see if this theory works, but will be very interesting to see how much dark elves and dwarf stuff carries over.

  23. So it should be fun to see if they loop back around and do the same thing to Cities. Last time I checked the current rumors was all the wood and high elves were gone right? Should be interesting to see if they slowly remove other or not.

As for kroot at least it looks like we will be getting another model soon lol.
