In the case of 6 Raptors, they're also very fragile (only 12 wounds). They need a screen

Unless you keep them at max shooting range with a LRelictor to translocate away ‍💫

That or you can run the Knight-Judicator to get the two gryph-hounds for protection against deepstrike and a screen. I don’t think the Kjudicator is good for the points, but I think he will combo well with a group of raptors.

    Thinking about trying this for a Dragons List;

Hmm. Do people not think running a second holy command is as good as running a second artefact? Without having played games testing both it seems hard for me to accurately judge. But running Call for Aid and Thunderbolt volley seems very good with the correct unit combos. Or bring in paladins and Unleash Thy Hatred.

  3. I think I’m just gonna go with a group of 6 teleporting Raptor Longstrikes. I’m not a fan of the looks of Judicators, but a lot of my local friends play big monsters that are hard to remove. So double shot longstrikes with LRelictor to translocate them out of trouble will be very nice.

Also a Knight-Vexillor with banner of apotheosis might be a good pick to run alongside them with or instead of the LRelictor. Since longstrikes are 2 wounds each, the full charge of the banner would bring back an average of 3 models (240 points). Sounds like value town to me.

  4. I have mixed feelings about this, but mostly positive. Points going up across the board so shortly after the GHB 2021 is definitely demoralizing. Having to cut & trim a list twice in a few months is just depressing.

I really like some of the abilities and new warscrolls. Obviously the Stormdrake Guard & Knight-Draconis seem nuts (almost too good). But I really enjoy that we have a good emphasis around our battleline redeemer units, with sound buffs to make them hard to remove. I honestly can't believe the re-worded translocation made it into the book. Can't really see a point in taking Scions of the Storm over Stormkeep when you have such a good teleport prayer that allows you to move after. New holy commands are also sweet.

I really dislike the attempt at streamlining that results in warscrolls with only one ability. Just feels bad in combo with the increased points cost.

I honestly expected more from Judicators for the 60 point increase from before GHB 2021. I know some of the tournies (@Nizrah I'm looking at you) are saying how good they are, but man I just wanted something more flashy than an extra attack. This really stretches across all of the ranged options. Such high costs for only 10 wounds (6 wounds for Raptors). I think Vigilors look so cool, but it will be hard to justify taking more than a unit of 5 to get the +1 hit off for the really killer units (Judicators, Protectors, Dragons). I also think we have a really good tool against big monsters (especially Gargants). I mean LC Bastian's Thunderborn ability plus double shooting Judicators is a dead mega-gargant, if not very close to one.

Plus we will get a lot more value out of Unleash Hell with 15 Judicators *eyes*

    Interestingly

Personally I just feel so nervous bringing the Epitome in because they are so expensive for the amount of wounds/bad save they have. The Bloodthirster has 7 more wounds, a better save, and if you take the Amulet of Destiny (with the new FAQ) you can have a 5+, 6+ negate after armor saves. Although I do agree the utility and ability to enhance your army with rerolling 1s is almost too good to pass in 3.0.

Quick write up from my event yesterday with the Alliance Open in The Netherlands.

Amazing write up. Really good to see a Legion army doing well in a tournament.

I mostly wanted to make this post because I had coincidentally made a list near-identical to yours, and really enjoyed the fact that I was not going crazy after hours of theory-crafting.

Allegiance: Legion of the First Prince

    - Grand Strategy: Prized Sorcery

    - Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

    LEADERS

Be'Lakor, the Dark Master (360) - General - Lore of Ruinous Sorcery: The Master's Command

Kairos Fateweaver (435) - Lore of Ruinous Sorcery: The Master's Command

The Contorted Epitome (255) - Artefact: Fourfold Blade - Universal Spell Lore: Flaming Weapon

Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince (210) - Axe - Artefact: Armour of the Pact - Mark of Chaos: Khorne

    UNITS

    20 x Bloodletters (230)

    20 x Bloodletters (230)

    10 x Plaguebearers (110)

    ENDLESS SPELLS

Emerald Lifeswarm (60) Umbral Spellportal (70) The Burning Head (20)

    CORE BATTALIONS

    *Command Entourage - Magnificent *

    *Battle Regiment

    ADDITIONAL ENHANCEMENTS Artefact

    TOTAL: 1980/2000 WOUNDS: 93 LEADERS: 4/6 BATTLELINES: 3 (3+) BEHEMOTHS: 2/4 ARTEFACTS: 2/2 ENDLESS SPELLS & INVOCATIONS: 3/3 ALLIES: 0/400 REINFORCED UNITS: 2/4

The biggest thing I changed after looking at your post was my Warlord and Vanguard core battalions to the Command Entourage and Battle Regiment. I enjoy the fewer drops over the two free CP. And yes I do know that Pink Horrors are clearly better than Bloodletters, but my bloody bois are fully painted and Horrors are expensive.

One last thing I had considered trading out was the Contorted Epitome for a Bloodthirster of Insen. Rage for the obvious combo with Kairos. But your appraisal of the Epitome has me at a crossroads. What are your thoughts?

Its in whichever broken realms book gave the stormkeep abilities.  Kragnos I believe?

Ah, I'm still relatively new to SCE and Stormkeeps were always something I had just rolled over. Thanks for pointing it out.

Edit: Would this also exclude Blaze of Glory? Or are we still not sure since that ability is still new?

It is absolutely not the best spell in the game, because Mystic shield exists, let alone anything in the LRL book. It’s not even the best Kruleboyz spell previewed: -1 charge and a free normal move are much, much better.

7 MWs sounds bad but it’s only 3 Vindictors. I’m not even reaching for Inspiring Presence on that. Not only are there spells which do more damage than that, but that is positively tame by shooting standards.

Finally units of 10 are the largest that SCE should go and even then maybe too large. This is an MSU meta.

I really don’t think Mystic Shield is the best spell (and regardless I said Da Black Pit is *one* of the best). There are so many +1 save effects in the game now that it’s lost a lot of its luster.

And just for comparison, the Chaos Sorc Lord on Mant. has the spell Winds of Chaos which is one of, if not the best, hordebreaker spells in the game. I feel like this spell is very comparable to it except it’s specialized against elite infantry rather than large hordes (and has a 6” smaller range). 7 MW on a spell with a casting value of 7 has excellent value. And I’m not sure what shooting you are comparing 7MW to unless it’s Lumineth Sentinels, and if we’re comparing this spell to Sentinels then well…

The biggest downside to Da Black Pit? You have to choose between it and Sneaky Miasma unless you take another spell enhancement.

     only rend 2.

Rend 2 is awesome? There are so few things in the game with rend 3 and quite a few of them are either god-monsters or gargants. Her 4+ ward essentially gives her 16 wounds and gets even more effective for every point of healing she receives. And if you are playing with the ruling of Praetors/Yndrasta she becomes nigh unkillable. I don’t even think 60 lumineth sentinels can kill her with praetors.

  10. BIG fan of these new dragons. I don’t know if I will build an army purely of dragons, but I’m thinking that a couple of dragon riders with a core of Liberator stonks will combo really well with each other. Cheap battle line with really good objective securing and a pretty tanky statline combined with an absolute hammer of a unit in the dragon riders.

I am feeling a core of MSU redeemer units (at least 5) with Yndrastra for the regen.

I actually feel like having a group of 10 Vindictors will be good. They can fight two ranks deep (so don’t suffer as much from new coherency) and will be able to take much larger advantage of big buffs. Plus like PrimeElectrid said, the units have to survive till turn 3 to take advantage of objectives outside your territory, and 10 Vindictors will almost certainly be able to do that.

Thanks for the pointers regarding Sequitors. Glad to hear I'm not wasting my time... although with the new book so close, who knows! Ha ha! I hope not though as I really like the cut of their jib. In fact, all the Sacrosanct units look pretty sweet. I do like tournies but I'm never bothered about winning. I'm happy if I get the one win and just like the vibe of being involved.

I haven't been as big a fan of the Sacrosanct robes compared to the Thunderstrike armor. I really dig the more flexible looking models (especially the Vindictors). Even the new Vigilors with their robes don't do it as much for me, although I love the Bow/Sword combo.

Anyway these guys are right. Theory-crafting and meta-building is fun, but the true spirit of the hobby lies in creating an army that you're proud of regardless if the pride comes from having a meta-perfect army or a bunch of cool conversions you made yourself.
