  1. Going to join a Path to Glory group with Ogors, with the other players having VERY competitive lists (SBGL, Legion, Troggoth Gitz and Kurnoth Sylvaneth).

I have a lot of available models, but not many Beastclaw. What do you think should be a sufficiently good 600 pt starting list?
Any advice to make my games less frustrating is super welcome!

Here are my models, with a few sample pics attached:

    Tyrant (2)
    Slaughtermaster
    Butcher
    Hunter with 2 Frostsabres
    Huskard on Thundertusk
    Mournfang (8)
    Gluttons (6)
    Ironguts (8)
    Yhetees (3)
    Gnoblars (40)
    Gorger
    Leadbelchers (4)
    Great Mawpot

I swear teleports are the bane of ogor existence! Fight us head on you cowards!.

the mawtribes part of ogors definitely needs a pass through soon though. I feel like weve got a lot of units now that look scary but fail to do much, even ironguts unless youre investing 1000 points worth of them+utility pieces to buff and protect them. 3.0 did not do that part many wonders.

Bloodvulture is the best for huskards. Hero sniping is great and its an easy way to guarantee rip+tear goes off.,

I will say though I would avoid using huskard as an anvil. Your hero phase is just him, and his 4+ save is going to turn into 5+/6+ real easy. My go to line I tell my opponent in any game Im playing with others is that if im using huskard in melee for anything other than killing something off on the charge the game is probably close to being over or is close to being lost. His value is maximizing shots with ice breath and getting prayers off. If you do want to march him up I would heavily suggest screening with your belchers and then utilizing unleash hell with the thundertusk if anyone charges into the belchers.

Is 1k played on a smaller map? I forgot. If not, Taco Bell (T-Bellies) is a hard sub-faction to run because A. Corner deployments will be tough to work with and B. with such low model count at 1k its effectively more space you have to cover. A wise opponent may centralize their deployment and because you need to be wholly within 12 inches to R+C you're likely going to need to still roll high for it to land charges.

I know you said its just for fun, but I figured id give you those little bits to help you out. Love Taco Bell as a subfaction though

I'm hoping for a favorable deployment and either an early double turn or a normal move turn 1 and run+charge turn 2.
In case I get pewed at turn 1, I do have the Mawpot to try to get some wounds back via the HoTT.
1k games are still on a 44x60 table which indeed does not favor my chances to charge in fast.
It's a make it or break it kind of deal!

So basically It would be better if I use my Leadbelcher and the smaller Mournfang unit as anvil in the center.
The large Mournfang unit charges asap (again, if everything goes well deployment and initiative wise) and HoTT stays right behind them (mainly to make sure they can Rip n Tear) to be kept as a last resort only charger.
I was thinking to sort of try to rush both flanks but you're right that it's unlikely to succeed with such low body count, so my best chance would probably be try to succeed with charging on one flank and possibly smash through from there.

Thanks for the advise, very helpful!

My next list will be a Bloodgullet list with Butcher, Slaughtermaster and a greasy Gluttons anvil, but I really want to play first with these Beastclaw I recently finished painting... such cool looking minis.

  3. I'm going to bring my Ogors for a 1000pt. gaming night in a few days and wanted to hear your thoughts on this list:

    Allegiance: Ogor Mawtribes
    - Tribe: Thunderbellies

    Leaders
    Huskard on Thundertusk (335)*
    - General
    - Artefact: Shatterstone
    - Command Trait: Storm Chaser
    - Mount Trait: Fleshgreed
    - Prayers: Keening Gale
    - Blood Vulture

    Battleline
    4 x Mournfang Pack (320)*
    - Culling Clubs or Prey Hackers
    2 x Mournfang Pack (160)*
    - Gargant Hackers

    Other
    4 x Leadbelcher
    (180)*

    Battalions
    *Battle Regiment

Endless Spells / Terrain / Triumph
    Great Mawpot
    Inspired

    Total: 995 / 1000
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 64

The idea would be to keep the Huskard and Leadbelcher in the center as anvil and take advantage of Thunderbellies trait to run & charge from flanks with the Mournfang. Not very competitive, just for fun, but what do you think?
My main doubts would be the triumph, the ideal deployment or which weapon to equip the Huskard with...

I'll send pics and a recap! Still not sure about opponent, maybe Stormcast

I fully expect it to happen in next 10 years but that will be more across the magazine industry as well.

    Thanks for the reply!
I may have already heard that 10-15 years ago...

Whenever it may happen, let's hope they'll at least keep the print option available! :D

  5. Do you think White Dwarf will go digital only in the near future?
Heard GW tried that before but then moved back to print...

I'm an avid fan of the magazine but only read it in print because even with the best tablet (anyone still uses those?) or monitor, the digital version would still be a worse experience IMO. Honestly I love bringing a copy or 2 along when traveling and reading it in the nature or at the beach and such. If it would go only digital it'd be quite sad for me, I'd probably stop reading it every month as I currently do.

As a WH+ subscriber (no AoS content sucks, boooooo, I know) I have not consulted much in the Vault for the same reason: despite the amazing trove of stuff they upload there, I find looking at beautifully painted miniatures and art much nicer on print. Also a lot of people (me included) spend already a lot of time in front of monitors for work or study ... I get watching videos and animations, but reading whole books, magazines and such would take too much on-screen time IMO.

  6. I came up with a couple 750 points unconventional lists:

For this one Bloodgullet's command abilites wouldn't be usable as I have no Gluttons, so I'm doubting if I should just go for no allegiance and get some good artefacts/traits instead.

    Slaughtermaster (140)
    4 Ironguts (245)
    Icebrow Hunter (125)
    Gorger (80)
    2 Mournfang Pack (160)
    750 points total

    or

    Meatfist Allegiance
    Tyrant (160)
    6 Gluttons (260)
    4 Ironguts (245)
    Gorger (80)
745 total so I would probably get a Triumph.

Endless Spells are useful and I'll definitely get them eventually, which will allow me to make more versatile lists ...
but I already have all these models painted, so definitely eager to make some ready-to-play lists.
I also have other painted units (Leadbelchers and Yhetees to name a few) but I feel the points increase makes smaller games a bit tighter..?

  7. Hey everyone,

I came up with this 745 points Gutbusters Battle Regiment idea for smaller games:

    Slaughtermaster (140)
    Butcher (135)
    9 Gluttons (390)
    Gorger (80)

I'm having a hard time figuring out a full 750 Gutbusters combination with the new points, do you have any?
Only managed to make lists around 740.
Also, do I get any benefit for having a list below minimum required points in the new edition?

True, listing now feels useless since aos 3 seems to shake the game A LOT

You might see him included some now with the hero abilities (particularly the ability to dispell endless spells, and generate CP), and our heal spell from the Wind lore.

Depending what happens with Inspiring Presence his CMD might increase in utility as well.

Ultimately I would like to create a fun-to-play Lumineth list that can also get me a good win-lose ratio more in local than in international context atm... not looking to join the national team just yet!

Though "local" doesn't mean easy at all, I'm based in a big city where there are lots of very skilled and experienced players in pretty much all clubs and stores (some of them actually do play in national/competitive teams). That's why I'd like to start by building something that can be dangerous in most scenarios from the get go while I get my very rusty wargaming skills back in shape and figure out what type of Lumineth force I feel more comfortable around.

At the same time, I really, really would love to field a fantastic and diverse AoS army from a visual perspective.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sentinels as models ... though 40+ of them may look a bit, let's say, old fashioned?
I'll always have in my heart regiments, square bases and regiment bases but ... yeah, I'll probably get back to that once and if Old World will really be "back".

You're totally right that AoS 3.0 is right around the corner, so I will definitely just wait and see how the game evolves before actually buying new units.

But again thanks very much for the enlightenment (he-hem) on the current Lumineth state of things ^^

    I currently own:

    - Launch Box models
    - Cathallar
    - 10 Sentinels
    - 1 Ballista (🙄)
    - 5 Bladelords (whooops 🙄🙄 oh well they'll look cool in a glass display and in casual games for sure!)

    This is a interisting one

So, i was thinking something like this

    Allegiance: Lumineth Realm Lords
    - Great Nation: Syar

    Leaders
    The Light of Eltharion (220)
    Scinari Cathallar (140)
    - Artefact: Silver Wand
    - Lore of Hysh: Protection of Hysh
    Scinari Calligrave (100)
    - General
    - Command Trait: Goading Arrogance
    - Artefact: The Perfect Blade
    - Lore of Hysh: Speed of Hysh

    Battleline
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    - Lore of Hysh: Lambent Light
    10 x Vanari Auralan Sentinels (140)
    - Lore of Hysh: Total Eclipse
    5 x Vanari Bladelords (120)
    5 x Vanari Dawnriders (130)
    - Lore of Hysh: Speed of Hysh
    5 x Hurakan Windchargers (130)

    Units
    5 x Vanari Dawnriders (130)
    - Lore of Hysh: Speed of Hysh
    5 x Vanari Bladelords (120)

    Artillery
    Vanari Starshard Ballistas (100)
    Vanari Starshard Ballistas (100)
    Vanari Starshard Ballistas (100)

    Battalions
    Starshard Battery (120)
    Bladelord Host (100)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (60)
    Hyshian Twinstones (30)
    Sanctum of Amyntok (30)

    Total: 1990 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 2
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 102

This can be a fun list, use the 2 bladelords to babysit the calligrave and the cathallar, cast the twinstones with the calligrave, cast  amyntok and protection of hysh with the cathallar (amintok makes the cathallar buble bigger), harrass with dawnriders (they do insane damage vs 1W infantry) and try to snipe heroes

    1) you can go syar or zaitrec (personally i like zaitrec more because more magic, but syar is objectily better)

    2) if you can, ALWAYS take the silver wand on the cathallar, +1 spell is just our best choice

    3) competitive speaking no, by far, you can have some fun but dont except to win many games, you dont have many bodies to control objectives and you lack sentinels

    4) atm only 2 batalions are competitive auralan legion and alarith temple (but ONLY in ymetrica), maybe  even starshards but honestly i did tryed it

Bladelords are not so strong, they are perfect to babysit the cathallar (literally the glue of our army), so 5 max, they are really fragile and theyr damage output is hilariusly lacking

Balistas can be good but you have to play a lot of wardens and some sentinels to have some meat on objectives

Sentinels and teclis are literally the reason we are tier A

like i sayed you have three ways to play competitive

a)-the obvius one, teclis plus sentinels, atm, our strongest choice

b)-ymetrica, but its really hard and i dont recomend it if you are new to lumineth

c)-helon, i saw that some helon list did good at some tournaments, but i am kinda sceptic about it, and if ymetrica its hard helon its even harder since positioning is key

    Thank you!

I am definitely going to include more endless spells; not looking into aelementiri based lists yet.

So if I would want to have a good chance to win games there seems to be no alternative then having as many Wardens/Sentinels as possible atm.

Pity to ditch the bladerlords host (perhaps just 1 babysitting unit of 5...) because they and the ballista really look great to me.

Are there no competitive lists that include Light of Eltharion?

  10. Hi everyone, I would appreciate your opinion and advice around a 2000 points list composed by these units:

    Light of Eltharion
    Cathallar
    Calligrave

    3 Ballistas
    10 Sentinels
    5 Windchargers
    10 Wardens
    5 Dawnriders
    5 Dawnriders
    5 Bladelords
    5 Bladelords

    Sharshard Battery Battalion
    Bladelord Host Battalion
    Dawnrider Lance Battalion
    Floating shrine terrain

The generic idea that I think would make for fun games would be:

    - Have the Ballistas taking out elite/max sized units/Leaders/tanks from afar with support from the Sentinels

    - Windcharges would zigzag around peppering units, luring them into getting close to/charge defense lines; they would retreat closer to Ballistas and Sentinels in case of ambush units and such

    - Wardens, Bladelords and Eltharion act as defense lines, with Dawnriders flanking and potentially also retreating in case anyone gets too close to Ballistas and Sentinels

    - Scinaris stay close to Bladelords and do what they do best; one of them is also chilling in a Shrine

What mainly concerns me as a tactical newbie is:

    1) What would be the most effective Nation for this list?
    2) If I should actually go for no Nation, what Artifacts, Traits, etc. set up would you recommend?
    3) Could this list be sufficiently competitive or is it just (or even barely sufficient) for casual games?
    4) Which (limited) units/battalions could I replace to make this more competitive but keeping the same strategy conceptually?

I really like the aesthetic of the Bladelords and the Ballistas models in particular, that's why I would really love to have a list with lots of them, that can still be competitive. That's also why I would like to avoid the usual 40-80 Sentinels and Wardens; though I know that they are far more convenient, safe and effective strategically speaking.

    Thank you for your thoughts!
