  1. The Age of Hoof and Horn begin with Kragnos.  Tear it all down, destroy everything, the primordial children return.

im getting really pumped after the picture that Kragnos will be at least BoC adjacent.  I’m really setting myself up for disappointment here.

  2. I’m really hoping for Kragnos to be the primordial progenitor of the Beastmen, come back to find his children mistakenly lumped in with the foolish chaos gods.  He will surely drag them back to their rightful place as the Beasts of the Wild or Beasts of Destruction and (mostly) abandon the chaos forces aside from a few petulant children who have betrayed themselves and allied with one of the weak gods.

I just really want my Beasts to get something nice.

I would say set your expectation pretty low for their warscrolls. HOWEVER they are still badass models that, at a minimum will make really great Vampire Lord proxies

Hey, the BoC and Nurgle Underworlds warscrolls are decent.  Haha, but yeah odds are the vamps AOS warscroll isn’t going to knock our socks off.

Come to think of it, I’m not sure the BoC and Nurgle bands AOS warscroll are good or just good in comparison to the warscrolls in the actual books.

  4. I think the Vyrkos BloodBorn will be a unique one off unit just getting an AOS warscroll.

It’s possible and Im hoping we see an actual unit of 3-5 vampires called Vampire Coven or something and then allowing that unit to take a bloodline and maybe Vrykos BloodBorn will be one bloodline of that, but in general, I think the safer bet is they are a one off unit that may or may not even be in the Gravelord book.

  5. I’m really hoping the Black Coach is native to Gravelords, it’s visually an amazing model,  but I’m not holding my breathe (because I’m a vamp and don’t breathe....drumroll?  Sorry...).

I’m also not counting on FEC getting totally brought back into Gravelords, bu I can totally see one of the sub factions being FEC grounded.  Hopefully more then the now usual 1/4 and more like...if your general is of the Ushoran bloodline, you may take any number of ghoul, crypt horror, crypt infernal units as you like in this army.

still holding out hope that every Vampire Lord gets a command trait based on their bloodline and that bloodlines are a thing.

  6. I’d much rather Vlad then Abhoresh as well.

I was always surprised Mannfred came back.  Vlad is awesome and Mannfred has always struck me as a mustache twirling villain.  Vlad has the whole twisted nobility thing going on, he’s a monster sure, but he does it with class.  Mannfred is evil because... he’s Mannfred?

is Mannfred going to stab you in the back...yes because he’s Mannfred.  No other reason.  He’s a cliche of himself at this point and quite boring to read about because you know he’s going to be EVIL and he’s going to ****** up.

I am glad Nef got brought back.  She’s pretty dope.

Number three and four are taking the game in so amazingly wrong a direction that it's almost believable. I can totally see GW looking at AOS right now and being like: you know what this game needs? More shooting and more ways for shooting units to escape from melee units without getting hit!

Not that I’m disagreeing but we are seeing snippets of a rumor.  You’d have to expect something more to these rules if true.

overwatch shooting at -1 to hit, but the models that charged then get +1 to hit or do extra damage if you shoot.

units can retreat once when charged but must reform during the movement/shooting phase the next round and cannot move/shot etc.

those are just random ideas and I’m sure GW wouldn’t just toss more benefits to shooting armies into the game without some drawbacks.

    I think she's fantastic, face & all.

With all the fantastic vampire lord models we've seen lately, I really hope the new battle tome manages to provide some effective mechanical reason to field more than one in an army.  The current vampire lord is a good hero, but not one you'd really feel any particular motivation to double or triple up on.  Maybe if they get bloodline power type abilities the way some factions have mount abilities an an extra upgrade apart from spells (which only go so far), command abilities (which only one model at most can have) and artefacts (which are strictly limited by access to affordable & effective battalions)?  It might also help if, in 3rd edition AoS, you could spend points to purchase additional magic items...

My wishlist on Vampire Lords is that they will function similar to the Ravagers list in Slaves to Darkness.

when you buy a Vampire lord you pick a dynasty for it.  Then every Vampire lord in your army (either as a sub faction itself or in spite of your chosen sub faction)  gets to pick a command trait from a list for the dynasty they chose.  The command traits will likely on the weaker side, except for one in each list that will be the overpowered definitive choice because that’s how G-dub rolls.

Id like to see an overall allegiance special rule that Vampire lords do not count toward total hero choice (meaning you can select as many Vampire lords as you want) and that when you add them to you list, you can choose to have any number of Vampire lords form into Coven units.  The coven units are selected before the game begins during list building and then function exactly as units during the game, maybe being immune to battle shock.  Each individual model in the coven unit can still be selected to be assigned artifacts or be chosen as general.

this would allow you to have the units of vampires everyone wants or still have solitary vamp lords.

I don’t expect them to get that much of a stat buff and run maybe 150-175 points a model.

for the rest of the book, I expect all OBR and Nighthaunt units to be dropped.  Nagash gone, Arkham gone, Etc.   Maybe, maybe the Banshee stays.  I’d really like the Black coach to stay because the model is boss and has a vampire in the coffin,  but we will see.

In my opinion, Black Knights are as sure to be in as you can get without being outright confirmed. The real question is whether or not they will get a new sculpt.

They have been confirmed.  Go rewatch the Wight King reveal.  The announcer says “this is a Soulblight character and will be sitting alongside things like Black knights and skeletons”

  10. Black Knights are safe.   They said in the reveal to the mounted Wight King he would look great leading an army of skeletons and black knights.  You really don’t have to worry about them.

Grave Guard however?  I may just buy a few more kits and use them as skeletons as I still quite like the looks of them.

Maybe this is something that may be happening. Imagine if they renamed Beasts of Chaos to Beasts of the Wilds and dropped most things Chaos.

As a Beasts player I would actually like this.

Beasts have always been looked down on by the rest of the Chaos pantheon even back to the old world.  The new lore for Beasts in AOS to me has always felt more destruction and less Chaos and they just tried to tie it to Chaos itself (not even undivided chaos which still recognizes the chaos gods) since old world Beasts were Chaos aligned.

However, I think with the release of Chaos god aligned Beastman models, it isn’t likely for them to flip grand alliances.  It just wouldn’t really make sense.

Still, might be kind of cool if they do go to Destruction and be (the first?) able to still ally in models from a different grand alliance in the form of Slaves or what not.

I think the Soulblight Warhammer Underworlds warband implies that there will at least be vampires as elite foot infantry - we've so far never had an Underworlds warband composed only of heroes, and usually each warband member comes from one of the army's units. Which means we could see multiple vampire infantry units - winged vampires, big bruiser vampires, and agile dual-wielder vampires.

We've also got vampire infantry in Cursed City - the weird wolf people with greatswords.

To me that all adds up to there being infantry-level vampires.

I think the opposite on this actually.  I suspect they are showing us all of the Vampiric bloodlines in the underworlds warband.

The one in blood red plate will be the Blood dragon/Vhordrai bloodline

The tall one with mace is the Mannefried bloodline

The twin sword vampire is Neferata bloodline.

The winged one is the new Vyrkos  bloodline.

I suspect the Crimson Court AOS warscroll will be all four of them together as a unit and the unit will function with the hero keyword just like the Varanguard can do in their sub faction.

I'd really like to see Blood Knights but I don't think anything's a given. Even if we do get Blood Knights, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were almost unrecognisable to what we have now. AoS has a funny way of throwing massive curve balls.

This is what I’m worried about.  We will get new Blood, knights but instead of heavily armored baroque vampires on nightmare steeds, we will get half naked feral vampire growing out of giant blood worms that shoot psychic lasers from their mouth.

  14. I’m wondering if the Skeletons in this box will be a special unit and not replacements for the existing skeletons or grave guard.  Almost like a regiment of renown from the Total war series.

You can take one unit of Ulfenwatch guard in your army that may have between 10 and 40 models.  Blah blah...

I like the models a lot but the skeletons cloaks and hats seem to fit in the same kislev/Cossack style as the Ogor models and less the traditional gothic style.

I won’t be disappointed either way.

  15. That’s kind of why I’m hoping Soulblight Gravelords is something like a rebellion.  Nagash has had victory after victory.  At some point that has to end and what better narrative way for that to happen then for Nagash  to be so confident in his hold over those gifted with Undeath that he misses the threat right under his thumb.

Just because I like Vlad and by extension Isabella we could imagine that Sigmar has found a way to shelter or bring Vlad and Isabella back.  After the soul wars, Sigmar would be looking for a new tactic against Nagash and death.  Vlad was ostensibly part of his empire in the old world, maybe his soul was claimed by Sigmar.  Sigmar resurrects him and finds a way around Nagashs control of undeath.  He could find a way to twist the SoulBlight curse so it no longer responds to Nagash and instead allows the Soulblighted true freedom. Perhaps they can’t be sustained only on blood any longer and must actually consume souls to keep the curse from destroying them or reverting them to Nagash’s control.

Either way with a returned Vlad who is not bound to Nagash, he could spread the new version of the Soulblight curse among the other vampires.  The vampires who could see the writing on the wall under Nagash, him killing everything and causing the Vampires to suffer an eternity of hunger, would naturally rebel when given a chance at freedom.  The curse could be spread in lesser forms and allow for the human/mortal armies some folks want to exist under the Vampires.  You could even have one of the sub factions allow for 1/4 Cities of Sigmar Free guild or something.

Anyway, to me this makes for a more interesting narrative rather then just another group of undead who serve Nagash.

I'm probably going to buy a box to just paint up cause I quite like the models.

This and, I think I might proxy them in as Tzaangor on foot.  Never wanted to “waste “the disc to make the foot version.  It’ll at least give me a chance to use the Slaangor models because they are really nice.

  17. I think it would be cool from a narrative standpoint for Vlad and Isabella to come back and reclaim their domain from Nagash.  Much like an earlier poster called out, maybe the vampires realize that Nagash wants kill everything and they rebel with the return of Vlad.

Vlad and Isabella could be a new centerpiece model with them surrounded by their court of vampires.

  18. sorry if this has been explicitly answered before... I saw an answer earlier in this thread but I wasn’t sure on one point.

if I take Brass despoilers and make the Doombull my general, he can’t take any of the command traits or artifacts listed on the tables as he is not a daemon, mortal, or bloodbound.

however, if I choose to run Goretide or skullfiend tribe, wouldn’t the Doombull be eligible to have the command trait and/or artifact?  None of them specify that it must go to a mortal, daemon, or bloodbound.  And once you choose a slaughterhost, don’t all models in the army get that keyword?

  19. I assembled the Cauldron according to instructions and stopped when it told me to add the bottom layer of stairs.  Then I cut out the middle section between the front wheels and put the gorebeast between them.  It looks like it’s lashed between the front wheels and pulls the whole shrine.   I’m waiting to prime it as I still want to find some banners to hang from the bottom steps.

  20. I converted up a DoK Cauldron into a Warshrine.  I used a gorebeast from a chariot box to pull it.  It wasn’t terribly difficult.   I’ve also got plans to use a screaming bell and make a second converted Warshrine, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
