AoS models are quite popular for Frostgrave.

Most of this is about the game, not the models.

I don't like GW's games but they can make good models.

The only issue with that is that 2022 does not have a lot of new ones.

A song of ice and fire minis are much better for Frostgrave.  They fit the theme much better, with House Stark and Rangers factions.  I wouldn’t think AOS minis would be all that great for Frostgrave but to each their own.

  2. Alright, I’ve finally got my grave guard in my hands after a couple months of them floating around with USPS.  I ended up with 40 unbuilt.  So based on the games y’all have played and the new rules, what is everyone thinking for how I should build them?

20 Great weapon and 20 sword and board?

30 GW and only 10 S&B for a small holding unit?

The Great weapon rules look better overall, but it might be nice to have a 4+ that mixed with All out defense is immune to rend -1.  Plus the shields look cooler.

    You'd hope so wouldn't you.

The Ogroid Myrmidon showed us what a minotaur could look like body wise as well.

If only all the Bullgors looked like the Myrmidon.  Grumble grumble, Myrmidons and Kragnos being Beasts but not Beasts of Chaos.

I like them for their awesome galleries, but the strategies listed are typically along the lines of Cavalry are fast and with this new command ability they are even faster. Add endless spells to make your wizard more deadly. Grots may not seem strong but become a lot more powerful when fighting in large hordes. Fun stuff that is great for beginners trying to decide an army and get a hang of the rules... just hard to swallow for those of us jonesing for some new edition info.

Speaking of which here is the new article full of great art and army shots and generic strategies:

I do wonder if they very subtly answered the question about if AOS will get the 40k second rank engagement rules in this article.  They talk about the 2inch reach of the Symbaresh being useful because more of them can attack.  If we were getting the 40k rules, I’m not sure it would matter.

probably reading too much into it.

So many times I'd read about a new unit ability that was contingent upon a unit surviving a round of combat and thinking "well that's useless".  Because by and large units really didn't survive rounds of combat very often unless they struck first, at least not crippled.

So what you are saying is…Slaangor Fiendbloods are the new meta.  😈😈😈

    Im on board.

Yeah I'm more of the opinion that they're straight up Warclans. Hopefully with them Ironjawz and Bonesplitterz at least get a model or two.

I’m hoping they can all be played together easier then the current Big Waagh

  7. So I’ve got ten black knights I never built when I was looking to jump into Nighthaunt a while back.  What does everyone think about building them as Hexwraiths and allying them in now that we have seen the Black Knight warscroll.

I’ve also got a Black Coach (because it’s gorgeous) and am having trouble deciding between using it as a Black Coach ally or doing some conversion work with the new Vampire Lord and turning it into a Coven Throne.

    Opinions?

Riders of ruin is not a normal retreat in my opinion. I think you can charge after that move.  If they wanna considered that as "retreat" they specify that on the warscroll

Sadly when you read the actual rules, your interpretation is incorrect. I had to re-read it myself and think about it, but all moves while within 3” are normal moves. And then you have to choose either to retreat or stay stationary.

I think the intent was yes they can charge after moving, but shoddy writing means they can’t unless FAQd or 3.0 specifies retreat as a special type of move.

  9. GW: Age of Sigmar 3.0 is coming.  It’s going to focus on the forces of Order’s efforts to push back against the terrible Chaos that is everywhere in the realms.  We just released a giant Centaur god model and the epicenter of this edition will be Ghur the realm of Beasts.

BoC players: Yes finally. We will roll across the realms.  Bring on the Beasts of Chaos.

GW: Wait Who?  Why would you think BoC? This is clearly for the green skins.

    BoC: Sigh.

The only thing I don't like is that more and more things in AoS are getting mortals on unmodified 6s To Hit, making minus to hit less important. Yes a minus to hit will still impact things, and a lot on the older armies. But If I charge in with a unit of semi elite Cavalry into a medium sized unit of LRL Archers I might get reduced in strength significantly. I guess I'm just VERY apprehensive of charge reactions. Like others mentioned, this is only going to hurt melee armies more. Now if there was some sort of shooting reactions too, then I would feel a bit better.

If shooting reactions were a thing, that might be cool.

If your unit is targeted by a shooting attack you can maybe hunker down and get bonus to save or charge into the volley and move d6 inches toward the unit shooting at you.
