  1. I still will never forgive GW for not updating the rules for my immense Khorne Dragon. I still run him at any and every opportunity even though he's legends and his rules are complete trash.

I've also been burnt and rage sold my Swifthawk agents force (I regret this immensely as the models were beautiful) and most of my Eldritch council force (I kept my Forgeworld dragon rider everything else is gone).

Although AoS is entering and pushing boundaries with new stuff (ex: lumineth, OBR,  etc.) I find a lot of the wackier higher fantasy themes are just not my thing. A big example is Kharadron - they're SO CLOSE to being something I love but its just... off? Missing something. I couldn't even say exactly what but its just not quite there for me and the same is true of a lot of armies coming out but that's probably just nostalgia and preference talking.

As others have stated they should have ripped the band aid completely. I sold armies to fund "new" stuff to make said forces above with the idea that GW had culled what it wanted and what was left would be safe (at least in the sense that they may get new models at some point) and then they were over time removed. I know from a business standpoint the churn of armies and purchases is good for GW but I find myself looking at 3rd party and 2nd hand miniatures exclusively now.

I like it. They seem to have finally learned a thing or two about not loading both mortal wound/LoS onto shooting from the Sentinels....

Not amazing but if things start coming out along these lines excessive shooting will be much less of an issue.

  3. Artillery need scaling to hit/damage values based on the number of models in the units they target (this would have been very good against the 2nd ed blob battleline lists) and more shots so they can't whiff their single cannonball/projectile loads (or do what OBR did right and give them a choice of shot to utilize in a given turn with different advantages/disadvantages to each).

Also they should never have given projectile units range on par with artillery in the first place, artillery should have been king of high ranges and units been limited to 12" with 18 being exceptional or something.  - This is unlikely to ever change as it would require overhauling every single warscroll out there.

Not sure if they will ever be particularly viable in 3rd ed the way its developing. They would have to put out immense ranged damage to compete with current ranged units and frankly I'd prefer they toned the whole ranged mortals/high rend down a lot to begin with.

  4. I only buy second hand now (ebay, exchange groups etc.) at massive discount.

I am more focused on conversions than playing until COVID settles some more so it hasn't been hard to not buy too much.

Problem is my motivation is seeing things on the table so without many games its been harder to push myself to finish projects.

As for rules? yea they have pretty big flaws. I am hopeful that the FAQ (which they bungled) will be the beginning of a tightening of the ruleset. Dunno I played back in fantasy and old 40k with factions that languished for DECADES so any updates seem good by comparison

After the 2 vulture models they kind of revealed in the last few days this one is still mia. Just wanted to mention it.

Wasn't this a surprise part of a giant chaos knight shoulder pad? I thought I saw one floating around but I may be mistaken or its another vulture creature...

  6. I think its fine but that there are other issues exacerbating the problem that might need some looking at.

Heroic recovery on hero monsters make it too easy to heal off the damage that does make it through high saves which are needed for some sort of survivability in this game. I do like that hero monsters are finally worth a damn in combat (not just dying to juiced hordes instantly) but many are a bit too tough at the moment. On the flip side I find foot heroes to be either too lousy in combat or too squishy (or both) to ever really take them. Things like Sigvald skirt the line of a good foot combat hero and hes a very special case but I would hate to see Gotrek-esque heroes marching all over the place annihilating blocks of infantry left and right.

Mortal wound access is both a) too easy to access for some factions and b) not available to all factions evenly. Which sucks as it is c) the best answer to basically everything combat/shooting related. This I think adds to the problem as well. Units spitting out combined mortals/regular damage had to be mitigated somehow and they have made mortals such an overwhelmingly good option that there are few tools to reduce its output. So regular saves were instead tampered with to help reduce incoming damage and units without mortals continue to suffer a bit.

I think it was a huge mistake to lean into giving mortal wounds out like candy and it should never have become a stock rule on so many war scrolls and instead should have been replaced with increased rend/wound values or something to that effect and kept the mortals on 6's on stuff like foot/horse combat heroes to make them a bit more attractive as a line breakers and differentiate them a bit more from regular sloggers.

I am unsure as to how to deal with the problem myself but it is at the point where I have shelved my sons as they overwhelmingly benefit from being hero monsters with good saves and access to wards and it has definitely poisoned the gaming group a bit with their recent performances requiring little to no tactical acumen on my part (which I will fully admit).

    From the article:

"The various plagues and contagions have more impact, and the troops are just as hard to put down. Even more so if you bring along their most powerful daemon, the so-called Loci of Fecundity."

I've never heard of the Loci of Fecundity, but they're implying that you can field it in the new tome. Think it's just a new named warscroll variant of an existing model, just new lore, or maybe a new model?

Most of the daemons of other factions have a loci ability attached to them. I assume this is just referring to their GUO having a new ability.

I don't like the ubiquity of big god models and I think the game has gone substantially too far in that direction. It's boring having a god in almost every game, and I don't like that they are such compelling choices competitively. I'd prefer a game where the big god models are playable but not competitively ideal. That way, if people want to play with them they can and it won't make them lose every game, but it also won't be competitively required or even encouraged.

Definitely would prefer if more gods were in the new Nagash point range or higher than where they currently are. Morathi points cost is an blight on the game for such an obnoxious model.

  9. I am hoping this is temporary and they are just waiting for the warhammer app to start giving them out freely again. I made a close group of regulars by playing matches at a local store with a friend. People were interested in the models so we scrolled through the warscrolls alongside what they found cool and they basically started their list building and purchasing through that. Without an easy way to guide the new players in their decision making our group would have likely never taken off as people would have made poor purchases and left out of frustration (think on how you would react if your first purchase was a few hundred dollars of Slaangors). Even WITH the scrolls available there has still been some losses due to the loose rules and poor warscrolls of some units not living up to their tabletop miniatures appearance (RIP our Beasts of Chaos player).

Frankly I will just acquire the rules elsewhere and this cools any enthusiasm I have for new releases/purchases/supporting GW directly for the time being. My current project Soul blight army will remain unfinished for the time being.

Given he’s now out of production I can’t see it.

knowing them and their well documented in the posts above attention to detail, id say it slipped through the net.

much like my 400 quid which they would have had if they’d have given me a last chance to buy heads up.

not that I’m sore about it or anything!

Snagged one not long ago. Didn't realize he was fully out of production now.

They wasted the time updating part of his scroll though which is baffling.

Can somebody clarify for me whether the Khorne Dragon is now playable or not please. In the core rules it arbitrarily says no models more than half your list but my understanding is this isn't repeated in the GHB and the Monstrous Arcanum FAQ says these models can be played in any games of AOS...

Yes I would definitely like some clarification on this

  12. Kind of surprising to see bonesplitterz outcompeting ironjawz ev en if the number of games played could make this an anomaly.

Beasts of Chaos is just abysmal they got hurt by the new edition badly and they weren't really taking top tables before it.

Sons near the top tracks with my experiences so far.

  13. In most of my armies I do not even bother bringing wizards. They are a complete waste of points against Kroak, double casting boosted grey seers, teclis, nagash, arkhan, tzeentch in general etc.

I play a lot of single caster - no bonus to cast/unbind - rather weak buff armies (BoC). Or its not worth the enhancement to become one (SoB)

The extra points bringing more bodies to soak up the extra mortals flying around seemed to work better. Just make enough threats that they cannot debuff/kill them all.

How can Archaon use Destiny Dice? I thought that Warmaster and changing all "Tzeentch army" to "Disciplines of Tzeentch" removed all Allegiance Abilities from Archaon (or Kragnos).

Warmaster states they can make full use of the armies allegiance abilities even if it is not listed as directly part of the faction (which counteracts the Disciples of Tzeentch requirement as far as I can read).

On a note related to the topic I am kind of shocked that there was no SoB representation with how hyped they were with the buffs from the new edition + how high they have been rated on many tier lists so far. Very interesting. It is as you say a small sample size overall though.

If you like original big hats over the newer style forgeworld did, get them from the Russian Alternative. Insanely cheap and really, really good service. Models are insanely crisp and detailed. I put off buying them for a long time as I'm not a fan of resin, but so glad I got them now. They can be slow to arrive since covid trashed the post, but their service is amazing and they will make sure you get them. Took them from april to Dec to get me my order last year, but they were fantastic about it.

Any chance you could DM me someone reputable? I know posting about casting can be a bit touchy around here but I'd love to know of where  I could get a good detail alternative.

Buddies turn one he moved up, I used re deploy on 30 skinks and rolled 4, kept them safe from any threats. blood warriors charged skink screen in the centre, I spiked horrendously on unleash hell from 30 skinks and killed the unit, 10 wrathmongers + blood thirster charged and killed the skink screen in the centre. Buddy was a bit triggered from unleash hell, he only read it as the unit charged can shoot not a unit just within 9" of the charging unit.

Just curious did you use redeploy on the same unit that had unleash hell applied on it (in a single turn)? If so that can't be done. Redeploy stops all further shooting for the turn (unleash hell is defined as shooting). If you did your buddy still has a right to be upset...

I've just brought the long oop wood elf army box and a huge, huge amount of chaos dwarves. Whilst I can understand the need for GW to remove rules for items they no longer sell (Due to the copyright issues of the past) and the need to refresh model lines every few years, I will never understand the communities reaction to is as being one of 'Oh no can't use those models any more'.

If someone was to say that older models can't be used any more in game (Simple due to the commercial decisions made by GW), they would receive a lifetime ban from my groups club for sure. Here, the term 'squatted' just means to get destroyed by someone fielding their squat army in games of Epic 40k.

I wish I could have ever afforded Chorfs. Dream army but I can't afford to take an extra loan out to buy just the battleline.
