While I agree that Foxes, Sentinels, and Total Eclipse aren't the most interactive to play against, every army has elements that could be a "NPE" (such an awful, overused term). Let's not ignore the fact that much of what determinies which armies get hate and which armies are deemed "fine" is merely the discourse around them coming from 1-2 major AoS content creators, whose (often poor) takes get uncritically parroted throughout the community and basically just become memes. I would bet money that ~50% of people who have complained about LRL online have not played a single game against them.

Season of War once had a battle report with LRL a while back that ended up very one sided, not because of any "cheese" or "NPE", just the mission and dice plus some very good play from the LRL player. Nonetheless, the comment section was full of "ugh stop playing LRL" or "nerf LRL already" because the community just decided they were the army to hate. Like most internet memes, it gets tired pretty quick.

My problem with Seasons of War LRL is he doesn't play the real filth!

I want to see Jordan running circles around Carl's Ironjawz with Foxes.

  2. I think I misunderstood your point. I thought you were arguing that SCE were losing all it's most powerful tools and now had nowhere to go.

I agree, the changes aren't going to make any of the weaker units stronger. Knight Questors, Azyros will stay on the shelf. Evocators won't see play. etc. The change made the gap between S tier units and A tier units smaller. Did not effect the others.

That's the issue with books with tons of Warscrolls unfortunately. GW doesn't have, or doesn't allocate enough ressources to look at every book and try to fix internal balance. I know my Sisters of the Watch always jealously look at Irondrakes and wonder why points can't be swapped.

One thing I have noticed while playing both 40K and AoS during the last decade is that simply nerfing the most competitive units(or in other words, "must-haves") does not necessarily diversify list compositions: the players simply bring fewer "must-haves" due to points increase or performance nerf, but they do not suddenly take uncompetitive units which were overlooked before.

Just because Stormdrake Guard and Justicar units(particularly longstrikes and judicators) were nerfed does not mean celestar ballistas and stardrakes will suddenly become popular. Nerfing the best options do very little to achieve greater internal diversity. The nerf should be done in tandem with buffs to underperforming units, which unfortunately is what GW has failed to do at least for Stormcasts.

I generally agree except for the fact Stormcast has a lot of models that will now be taken instead of the Stormdrakes and Justicars. SCE were very much in a position of lots of A/B tier units outshined by S tier ones.

Judicators (Xbows), Chariots, Fulminators, Annihilators, Liberators, Vanquishers, Vindictors will all be seeing plays now.

You do have a lot of stinkers but I'd be really shocked if SCE  don't top 5 any tournaments.

  4. There were tons of strong Stormcast lists that didn't lean on dragons, Thunderbolt Volley change is a bigger hit but I think they'll still be great over all.

    Fulminators are still amazing.

    Grandhammer Annihilators.

    Knight-Judicator spam lists aren't affected.

Chariots are really good and are probably the take over Dragons now.

Hard to say what will be the go to list, espescially with so many core changes through the GHB but Stormcast will fare better than most armies.

I do agree the book has 40+ useless warscrolls though....

Even Phoenix Guard get deleted if they're taking an extra point of damage per hit. I agree that if anything this raises the value of ****** infantry.

Tree revs for example are looking borderline busted with the amount of stuff they do in this new edition. Tiny footprint, free teleport, cheap as chips for a unit that counts as 15 on an objective, can score bonus points for new savage spearhead. Of course they're also getting a new book and may lose what makes them good right now. But the point stands that stuff like that suddenly got a lot better, and it doesn't care if you're hitting it for an extra damage because it'd be dead either way.

If Bounty Hunters is a single unreinforced unit it won't have a big impact, if it's 3 troops units with no restrictions on reinforcement it's going to be a deeply meta-warping thing where the game is going to come down to objective-grabbing with vets units that then get deleted as soon as they get looked at by bounty hunters. And that doesn't sound like a very fun game to me TBH.

I agree, this seems like a step towards 40k. Or how I envision 40k as an outsider that occasionally listens to bat reps while painting.

You'll be building your lists with the intent to fulfill battle tactics as efficiently as possible.

Quick or deepstriking Gellant Veteran units to snag that extra VP.

Why? If true, you have an interesting dynamic here. First, you can rank the infantry (good). Second, you have now very strong choices (multiplied objective holding power and/or increased melee damage) to move away from the one drop battalion. Third, all of these (and hopefully battle tactics as well) will only apply to infantry and melee, which should indirectly force a "proper" army composition, building around standard troops.

Ranking infantry is an amazing change but isn't a buff across the board. Any 2" infantry won't be affected by this, but will now have to contend with many units gaining +1 dmg against them.

I do agree that creating more attractive battalions is great since it'll push people away from one drops or make it a more punishing decision.

  7. Oh boy! Horde meta!

*Pulls his 120+ Darkling Coven troops off the shelves.

The second battalion is any troop (not leader, artillery or behemoth). Units in this battalion gain +1 melee damage vs any Galletian Veteran (and not only those in the x3 scoring).

    Oh...

*Puts his army back on the shelf.

Maybe I'm just overreacting but this seems like a pretty insane change. So many of my armies can't help but run these Galletian Veterans.

Kruleboyz HAS to run Boltboyz and Gutrippaz. Giving everyone easy access to this battalion seems dangerous.

Whaaaat? When did Bonesplitterz get great?

    Staring contest champions AoS 3.0.

They haven't been destroying tournaments, haven't kept up with it but I struggle to remember a big 5-0 tournament finish for them. They are better than expected, I recall when the book first drop someone mathed out how they had more bite than the previous book. Just lost all of the flavour, no run and charge Big Stabbas, no flavourful anti-monster interaction, no buckets upon buckets of dice. Just more efficient.

Wurrgog Prophet mask rule is also pretty broken, but I feel they need it and it's the only real fun thing in the army, I hope they don't remove it.

well like always gw doing changes 6+ months too late...

lumineth havent been a problem since.. never? but people hate them, so gw should double his dmg and delete the mortal mechanic. instead that, they keep nerfing them only.

seraphons were stomping several months ago. but they arent winning anything since several months ago. and delete an army passive for nothing?? not changed to +1 armor or something. saurus and dinos are too squishy when they should be sturdy as heck. not 10w saving at 4...

real problems are first prince and nurgle, they are the real top army right now. and never get touched or commented, dont know why.

I'm replying with the assumption that the previous rumours are 100% accurate.

Big targets for the GHB/battlescroll updates are SCE dragons, living city, Seraphon.

    GHB / Battlescroll
Dragon hero phase move goes away
Thunder lizards scaly skin also goes awayLivll
Living City Strike then Melt Away must finish the movement outside 9" of any enemy

These all seem like great changes, Seraphon have been doing great and are still winning lots of tournaments, I agree that I hope they change Scaly Skin rather than simply delete it. The book still has teeth and I'm sure we'll keep seeing it.

Living City - Good change, probably kills the city but it's been waaaay overperforming.

This is the GHB, which makes sense why it feels 6 months behind, the full Slaves book is printed and leaked 8 months in advance this book was probably sent to print in November/December last year. Which would explain the lack of changes to Nurgle.

Archer changes are part of the 3.0 Battletome, not a GHB nerf. I'd agree with you that it feels like kicking someone while they are down since Lumineth haven't beenbdoing too great, but these changes probably come with point adjustements/warscroll changes that could make those units still powerful.

They do seem to have hone in on the biggest NPE of Lumineth, insane LoS ignoring mortal wound shooting and the foxes ability to basically roadblock any combat army.

  10.  Strike then teleport for Sylvaneth? I'm jealous. I started AoS with a Cities Wanderers army, bought a prince and some Sisters. I wanted a mobile shoot and run army.. was very dissappointed. Shoot then nudge your archers 6" away, really didn't fit that imaginary playstyle.

Rules previewed for them look amazing, but I must resist and not make a new army.

  11. Leaks for the DoK 3.0 tome have me a little excited for Har Kuron again.

Mostly because I own a Melusai Ironscale and Blood Sisters.

These are 2nd hand rumours so take them with a grain of salt until we know more this weekend.

Melusai's remain mostly unchanged, same points but the Blood Sisters now deliver their mortal wounds on a 2+ after they've finished their attacks.  Which is nice. I like the idea of an Incarnate of Ghur + the snake/hero combo to have 2d6 run + 2d6 charge both rerollable. Getting another +1 to cast means we can get +3 for that all important vitriolic spray.

Witchbrew + SoS/Witches was already iffy because of it having a lower chance to go off but now it's utterly useless in Har Kuron.

If points are favourable Shrines will be slightly better because of the built in +1 to prayers.

Overall seems fun. Wonder if Avatars might be worthwhile now too.

The Shadowstalkers and Zombies also have 2 wounds each, maybe that's a way they're trying to make the underworlds warbands more generally appealing in AoS?

Or the rats have been hitting the gym in the time between battletomes, I suppose.

290 pts for the Shadowborne... hard to make that appealing.

So quick thought, DoK have a new tome coming out. What if this new warband is just another DoK Underworlds warband that will end up in that tome and has nothing to do with malerion?

I mean this is 100% what will happen. Every Underworlds warband has released with corresponding warscrolls for AoS.

Which means, if these are Malerion Dark Elves, they need a home in AoS. Unless we think DoK are getting a surprise Malerion half added to their army safe to say it'll just be the UW warband folded into DoK.

My doubt there is simply because remaking an aelf after it spent 10,000+ years mutating in Slaanesh’s stomach isn’t an easy process.

God-Teclis had to make and discard an entire rough draft race(Deepkin) just so he could get it closer with Lumineth who turned out to be glow-in-the-dark lightcrystal addicts from all the Hysh magic needed to cleanse them.

I can’t imagine Malerion can accomplish the same on his first try and with using deceptive shadow magic instead of light magic to “fix” them.

I imagine Malerion’s true Shadowkin will be much more bizarre with the twisted mutated devil-aelves mentioned in the 2018 Corebook, shadow daemons and Ulgulian familiars.

I could see the Shadow Stalkers being apart but more an off-shoot assassin cult heavily possessed by Shadow Daemons for a regular aelves contingent in his force but made of his followers with new armor to stand apart from either of the assassin armies he gave to Sigmar or Morathi-Khaine’s Stalkers who are soul-bonded to her for eternal service.(so not really his “creations” but city aelves he’s controlling)

If Aelves are so hard to make why are we getting new range releases 6 months in? Check mate.

  15. I really love the Shadowstalkers, by far some of my favourite models. Seeing the new Shadow Aelf resembling that style is great but like other have mentionned a little dissapointing as there's alot of design space that could still be explored.

Either way I'm excited to see the rest of the warband. And curious to see what a full release of Shadow Aelves would look like.. if we ever get one.

If I remember correctly the rumors were from someone who had a "list of upcoming warbands" so it could be that they span this season and possibly the next, because you are right - this starter set should end this season (at least if i have been interpreting things correctly - I have been very disappointed with this season in general and haven't bought anything from it).

I believe one of the early roadmaps for this season showed another two warbands after this box set. Starter, 2 warbands, box set, 2 warbands. Was I believe the road map.

I followed and played UW from Nightvault to Direchasm and this has been the least exciting season so far. The glacial pace of release for it hasn't helped. We're 6 months after the core set and only one warband was released. Though models are still top notch.

EDiT: I was wrong. Looked back at all the info and no indication/anything confirmed after the Q2 box set.

Finally!! It's been a week since Arena of Shades release, we need more Aelves!!

It's odd every time I think, oh I'm going to buy X they remind me there's another product I was saving for.

Excited to see more of Underworlds, although I don't play anymore the sculpts are amazing and I'm eager to see the rumoured Shadow Aelves.

  18. I'm really glad to see Incarnates as a new mechanic. I think a few people had a wishlist of roaming monsters we could add to our armies when 3rd edition was announced so it's really great to see that GW was on the same wavelength.

+1 cast/ -1 cast makes me want to bring this alongside Gobbsprak, but then I have to abandon my freshly painted Rippa's Snarlfang. : (.

If these turn out to be accurate leaks it's pretty interesting and I'm eager to see how many more incarnates we get.

A little dissapointed in the delivery method for the model. I'm not keen on buying a box of terrain to get my monster. Who knows maybe it'll be sold separately later on.

Really hoping that at Adepticon we get the rest of 2022s Road Map filled out. By this I mean the Chaos and Order Tomes are announced which we think are Skaven and Sylvaneth thanks to our benevolent @Whitefang and Autumns Alliances announced again.

I believe the rest of the year will be Battletomes and Single Model releases so I'm keen to find out which these last 2 Tomes will be. My money is on a Chaos and Death Tome, I'm guessing Flesh Eater Courts and Slaves to Darkness.

I have a hope in that Mawtribes and Sons of Behemat are not released this year as it increases their chances of model refreshes and range expansions. Though in the case of SOB I'm not expecting a new model at all for their Tome though will be Over Da Bad Moon if they get anything.*

*Fingers crossed for a Mancrusher update!!

I think we're due for some big reveal at Adepticon. Vince Venturella has mentioned twice that he's been working (painting) on a big project that he cannot show us. This weeks Warhammer weekly I believe he mentions he can't say anything until after Adepticon.

My guess is we'll learn more about the DoK/Nighthaunt books and whether or not they coincide with new models for the faction. Possibly the new Nighthaunt boat rumour engine.

  20. 6 minutes ago, Nezzhil said:

No, we don't have any rumour from a respectable source that say something about Malerion release. If you can find one rumour that say something about Malerion and it doesn't have fake content like the Beast of Chaos big release in November, the Ossiarch's archers in January or something like that we can start talking about Malerion's rumours.

Underworld Rumour posted here, though it just mentions Malerion Aelves warband in the box se comming Q2, not an actual army release.

Correctly guessed the Pirate warband, and specifically called out the monkey before it was shown.

All this elf talk and umbraneth in particular gets me overly hyped! Where’s whitefang for confirmation ;)

Right!? Obviously intentional, Whitefang isn't reacting, rumours are shrouded in uncertainty and darkness... Umbraneth confirmed!

I know there's a lot of complaints but personally I'm quite Happy with the holiday reveals. (As long as you jus accepted that the Advent wasn't for us).

We got IDK, Fyreslayers Box set confirmed and saw both heroes, with a hint for more to come. Which means next 2 Battletomes!

Strong hints of new Nighthaunt models, 1, 2 maybe 3?? (boat rumour engine) so we know a much needed NH book is probably 3rd.

New Avatar could be interesting if only for conversion purposes, I hate the DoK cauldrons but want to play one. Crazed priestesses summoning an Avatar could be a sweet albeit expensive conversion.
